Ceiba Tree Lodge

Our family of 3 enjoyed our 1 night stay and would return! Sergio (owner) lives here with his family (and dogs) and is an absolutely wonderful host - friendly and helpful, and full of recommendations for activities both near and far, depending on your itinerary. Our room had a beautiful view of Lake Arenal and the Ceiba Tree. WiFi signal was good. Breakfast was tasty and filling, and the fresh drip coffee was great. Eating included breakfast on the covered, open-air patio, while enjoying the view of Lake Arenal, the owner's interesting wood carvings and plant collection, was a relaxing way to start the day!
Cash payment accepted only, (poor signal reception makes a credit card machine non-feasible). Pro tip: if you expect to pay in USD (anywhere in Costa Rica), be sure you have bills without rips or tears. These are generally not acceptable, even at banks.

Really unique lodge in the jungle on the hillside of Lake Arsenal. Clean, modest and comfortable rooms. Sergio was super nice and full of great information about the natural history of the area. The views with the ceiba tree are incredible.

Lovely place to stay. Quiet location with great view of the lake. The Ceiba Tree is one of the oldest of its kind in Costa Rica (600+years old) and was, apparently, the inspiration for the tree home in Avatar. A lovely place from which to explore the area.
Sergio, the host, is excellent. Very helpful and full of good advice without being oppressive.
We had supper at the hotel the first night, cooked specially for us. Delicious food, beautifully presented. A great vegetarian (at our request) meal. Breakfast every day is delicious too.

We took a two week trip to Costa Rica, and staying here for 4 days was the highlight of the trip for us. We had the most intimate room with a view of the magical Ceiba Tree. We also had the best time getting to know our hosts and their pets! We started each day with a healthy, delicious breakfast overlooking Lake Arenal, and ended each day watching the sunset at the Tree. I was so sad to leave but will be recommending this place to anyone who will listen!

Sergio runs an amazing lodge! We were greeted with a warm welcome even though we checked in late. He let us pick our room from the available ones at the time. Our standard room had an incredible view of the lake. Breakfast was complimentary and delicious. Sergio served us fresh coffee brewed at our table and wonderful pineapple and eggs. He gave us lots of advice for the rest of our trip. Best of all… there was a cat, a kitten, and the sweetest chihuahua ever!!!!! We had an excellent time there. Pay a visit if you’re in the Arenal area!!

Our time at La Ceiba Tree Lodge was incredible. The property is absolutely gorgeous. The hosts are very welcoming and friendly and made us feel incredibly comfortable. Sergio went out of his way to help us plan activities and gave great recommendations on how to spend our time in Arenal. The breakfast at the lodge each morning was one of our favorite parts of the day; The healthy (but delicious and filling) food, local drip coffee, stunning views of the lake and conversation were lovely.

Not to mention the titular Ceiba Tree is located on the property and was within a stones throw of our room. It’s a must see landmark that happened to be in our backyard. If you have the pleasure of staying here please send Tuco the puppy and Chumi the chihuahua our best!

A really great place to stay. Very welcoming staff and very willing to give tips on local sights. Rooms were clean and quiet (except occasional dog bark at night). Internet was fast and stable. Coffee served is fantastic. Can fully recommend to stay here.

Spent two nights in this beautiful place. It's very quiet and has has a lot of charme. We had a great view on the lake, the surrounding hills and the ceiba tree.
Sergio is a host at its best. He will provide you with all the info you need for nearby activities and for your destinations onwards without being intrusive.

Amazing location settled in among all kinds of Flora and Fauna including the 500/600 year old Ceiba Tree. Add in the view of Lake Arenal the man made Lake with beautiful sunsets, depending on the weather at that moment. Birds of all kinds fly in and out between the trees including Toucans. Amazing personality and hospitality by the owners willing to service you at your beckon call. Delicious included breakfast offering great Costa Rican Coffee brewed Costa Rican style at your table along with Costa Rican delicacies while you enjoy the moment and the few from the breakfast patio. This is a must place to stay if visiting the Arenal and LA Fortuna areas. Will definitely tell our friends about this Paradise.

Ceiba Tree Lodge is in a gorgeous location on Lake Arenal, with beautiful, clean rooms. Dirk and his family provided great service and delicious meals. Dirk was very helpful with his knowledge of activities nearby. We enjoyed watching the birds (toucans, oropendulas, and more!) in the trees. The gorgeous ceiba tree and lake views made our experience even better and we spent our evenings on our deck.

A beautiful and relaxing place. The 600 year old tree is worth the stop alone. The host Sergio is very helpful and cool, and speak English fluently. 100 % recommend to stay a night or longer here. Good food aswell.

The Ceiba Tree Lodge is outstanding. We stayed for 5 nights in February, and Dirk and his wife, did everything to accommodate our needs and provided a fantastic service. Anything from recommendations on car rental, day tours, zip lining and hot spa's to fillling breakfast and tasty dinners, Dirk and his wife provides. The Ceiba tree itself, is beautiful, and waking up to look at bushes being visited by humming birds outside your window, is pretty special. We even got to see a tucan in the banana palm just outside our room.
Can't recommend this place enough. If you are in the area, don't waste a chance to stay there.

An amazing jungle hotel!! You have that enormous ceiba tree right outside and it's made for marvelling!! The owner are such great hosts and the best thing : they cook dinner every night for their guests . The food is delicious and it's such a nice way to socialise! The location is perfect for visiting the whole area- not only the arenal itself. If you can, get the room in the upper building on the very right side. It has the most loveliest private balcony with an amazing view. Loved it there!

We had a wonderful stay at ceiba tree lodge. The room was spacious and super clean, the vieuws from the terrace were breathtaking. Dirk and Lisette took the right precautions for the covid virus and we felt very save and welcoming. Would really recommend staying here!

Great property! The garden is amazing, the rooms are nice and clean, the “relaxing” space is great (hammoks, comfy sofas), great for groups. Also the hosts are so nice and kind and always helpful and full of activities suggestions!

Couldn't recommended more, so peaceful and friendly. One of those rare places you immediately feel at home.

Derk is so friendly, a really kind soul. His wife and kids are great too. They made us free ginger, lemon and honey tea when we told them we hadn't been well. Great people.

Sergio and his family were charming hosts! The lodge is secluded and peaceful in the rainforest above the lake with beautiful views of the lake and surrounding mountains. The Ceiba Tree itself is spectacular. Breakfast was delicious every day, premium coffee and fresh, home-cooked food. We also reserved a three course dinner with wine one night and it was absolutely delicious. Room was cute and comfortable and there was a wonderful covered patio. Can't say enough about how lovely our stay was. We definitely plan to return in the future.

Dirk and his family will treat you right. One of the best experiences we had in Costa Rica! He is an amazing chef!
