This is the most special place to stay on Cape Breton. I had a wonderful stay here for 3 nights 9/28-30 2023. It was my furthest destination on a two and half week driving tour from Kentucky.

I stayed in the Inn proper in and the room decor was lovely--furniture, artwork and items in the room were well and thoughtfully curated.

Staying here feels like you are staying with friends-it was fun to chat with other guests to hear about some of their adventures and where they were from.

The food here is also top notch. I regret I only had dinner here once, as I was out and about on the Trail well after dark most evenings. Breakfasts however were also fantastic--a perfect beginning to each day. The thoughtful presentation of the food is evident for everything that comes out of the kitchen.

Each morning I enjoyed conversing with Holger about plans and recommendations for hiking and exploring the island. I also met Bettina who was the creator of the wonderful meals.

On my last morning before departing I was treated to meet Earlene, the founder of the inn while she was out walking along with her dog.

I would recommend anyone looking for a special place to land in Cape Breton to give strong consideration to staying at the Chanterelle Inn. Hopefully I will return one day.

Loved this place! Located just off the Cabot Trail we arrived in time for our dinner reservation, food was delicious, best meal we’ve had so far. I had the scallops capellini-all house made- and my husband had the Atlantic salmon on a turnip/apple puree with asparagus, fresh bread for the table and a lovely selection of Nova Scotia wines. Breakfast was a treat as well. Homemade Belgian waffles and a traditional Cape Breton breakfast were our choices -several delicious options- at our leisure before 11am. The Inn itself is a large heritage style house loaded with character, wide staircases, a comfy living room littered with antiques and books, a fabulous outdoor patio with gorgeous views and large guestrooms with ensuites. The perfect stopover in our Maritime tour!

We loved our stay here! This is a beautiful inn, the room was extremely clean and very well maintained. The hummingbirds buzzing around the patio create such a beautiful ambiance while you have your meals. The restaurant at the inn is phenomenal, we especially enjoyed having breakfast every morning on the terrace, which has a gorgeous view. Dinners are also top notch and reasonably priced. The Nova Scotia scallops I had here we're the best I've ever had and every dish we had was delicious. The owners were super friendly and made us feel very welcome. Would highly recommend!

I LOVE Cape Breton and always plan a stay here on every visit. Stayed 6 nights in one of the cabins which come equipped with everything you need. Of course, the Restaurant is NOT to be missed. Great variety of meals deliciously prepared and wonderfully presented. You will be made to feel right at home the minute you enter this outstanding establishment!!

My wife and I stopped here while travelling the Cabot Trail. What a hidden gem. We stayed in one of the rustic cottages. Well equipped with everything you need and has an amazing view. Supper was wonderful. The food was delicious. A must stay when you are in the area.

Chanterelle Inn has been the highlight of our trip to Cape Breton. Driving up the hill to the Inn made us wonder a bit as to where we were headed but upon arrival we were treated like honored guests. Very peaceful and restful.

The food is as good as any we've ever had in any restaurant. Big city or small. Very surprising for such a remote and quiet place. Bettina the chef is just remarkable.Wish we could have stayed a week and sampled each of her dishes. Dinners were an event we looked forward to. Breakfasts were equally perfect. The staff was so very friendly and accommodating.

The rooms are very comfortable. The location off the beaten path so completely quiet and secluded at night. Unfortunately we were socked in with fog and rain for our visit but I'd imagine the stars are as good as anywhere. Hummingbirds by the dozens entertained us at feeders for our breakfasts and dinners.

Cannot recommend this inn and restaurant highly enough. Do yourself a favor. Book an extra night or two.

The weather put us at the Chenterelle's doorstep hours early. The hosts were gracious and lovely despite being caught a little off-guard. Rooms were clean, tidy, with beautiful maple wood furniture and wool rugs. The owners and staff were engaging and fun. The dinner menu was OUTSTANDING 😌🤌! We will be talking about our visit for years. If we're lucky enough to return to Cape Breton, we'll make every effort to stay at Chanterelle again.

Despite the rainy, foggy weather during our short stay, we LOVED our visit at Chanterelle Inn! We ate all possible meals at Chanterelle after discovering the amazing talent of the chef Bettina, trying as many dishes as possible. Every morsel was incredibly delicious-- not exaggerating! We thoroughly enjoyed the staff and the resident hummingbirds, and we will highly recommend this place to anyone headed in this direction.

Everything about this place was amazing! The meals were spectacular (had dinner as well as breakfast). Loved the comfy feel of the place, the friendly proprietors, the awesome porch and views (and hummingbirds) and the fabulous star gazing, sunsets and moon views - would 100% return again!

We had such a great time! We stayed in the upper room at the Inn with two twin beds, both very comfortable.

The Inn is located in a more remote area but close to hikes and other historical sites. It sits on top of a hill with amazing views. This place is super quiet!

The hosts were fantastic and the dinner was amazing. All fresh ingredients prepared with great care.

The price per night was a lot less than our Arbnb in Mahone (another great location).

I would stay here again, in a heartbeat!

The Chanterelle Restaurant, Inn & Cottages is a beautiful, peaceful retreat directly off the Cabot Trail. The owners and staff are welcoming, gregarious and friendly. The rooms are cozy and well equipped for a pleasant stay. The restaurant is absolutely magnificent with seating on the airy screened-in porch. We especially enjoyed breakfast while observing the flocks of hummingbirds at the feeders!

This was the best food we got to enjoy during our tip to Nova Scotia. The Chanterelle Restaurant is a hidden gem somewhere in the middle of nowhere and offers high-end food with fresh products. The staff was more than friendly and welcoming. We were absolutely amazed by the delicious food we were served. It's haute cuisine in Cape Breton! 100% recommend!

The best restaurant I've been to in NS. Fresh ingredients, beautifully cooked, stunning presentation and who knew there was something called bacon dust. Hummingbirds joined us at sunset. Delicious wine too. Highly recommend.

The food quality, presentation and portions were perfect. All made with as close to local ingredients as possible. We went there for a breakfast and ended up going back for an evening meal and another breakfast before leaving the area. I hope we make it back again.
The host Holgar and chef Bettina are warm and engaging with a passion for their food and providing a top quality product for their customers.
Not to be missed if you're doing the Cabot Trail and worth a side trip if you have time when driving the TCH through Cape Breton (approx 20 minutes from St. Anns)

We stayed 4 nights at the Chanterelle Inn and we absolutely loved everything about our stay.
The staff is welcoming, friendly and devoted, the rooms are comfortable, nicely decorated and clean, and the food is AMAZING.
A special thanks to the chef who carefully selected some of the best Nova Scotia wines.
Beautiful view from the veranda, and the many hummingbirds that are constantly at the feeders definitely made us smile.
What a peaceful place.
We strongly recommend the inn, a great home base to visit the Cabot's trail!

From the moment you drive onto the property, you will know that this dinner will not be like any other. It feels like you’ve been invited into a friends home, yet you’re served a Michelin star quality feast. This truly was one of the best highlights on our first trip to Cape Breton! It is 1000% worth the trip!!!

A very peaceful refugee after biking in the rain on the Cabot trail. The library lounge, the quaint dining area and the screened-in porch with expansive views of the hills were serene. Definitely a highlight of our trip!
