Cakebread Artisan Bakery & Hot Chocolates

They made my wedding cake for last weekend, and I have to say it was the most perfect and beautiful cake I could have ever hoped for. Out of the entire day and all the wonderful moments, seeing this work of beautiful floral art will be a lasting core memory for the rest of my life. And it was delicious too!

I was first introduced to this delicious place 10 years ago and my family tried many different treats... the lemon meringue cake was a HUGE hit! We just went back for another visit, 10 years later and it was even better than I remember (we live in Alberta, so we are not local). I had a slice of their decadent chocolate cake and my husband had a pumpkin cheesecake tart, dear heaven they were delicious! My cake was the perfect amount of chocolate, moist and Delicious. My mouth waters right now just thinking of it! Thank you Cakebread for all the delicious goodies you make and create!!

Love this place. Every time we come back to visit the Island it is on our must stop list. Hot Chocolates has amazing hand made Chocolate, and Cakebread always has the freshest and tastiest breads, cakes and snacks.

I’ve been going to Hot Chocolates for about 20 years. I strongly recommend the Blonde bombshell, the French kiss, the Italian lover, the B-52, and the Kochang truffles.

Very friendly every time I come in. Freaking love their muffins, totes recommend the berry glazed ones!

Had a lovely experience ordering a custom cake for my husbands birthday. For a 6inch cake, it weighed a ton and we ate it for a week! Haha so yummy!

Great shop featuring coffee, treats, and chocolates. Also sells flavoured balsamic vinegars - mix with a bit of Olive Oil for a tasty dressing on salads. Mmmmmm.

The very best chocolate that I have ever had. I feel that the other companies do not even compare to there outstanding quality and taste.
My favorite is the dark chocolate strawberry filled and the dark chocolate salted caramels.
The selection of chocolate is incredible.
They have a great selection of sugar free treats.
The ice cream is delicious with lots of flavors to choose from.
The staff are friendly and efficient.
The store is always being updated and kept nice and clean.
It is a very busy place, but you can always relax with a coffee or tea etc..
The owners are amazing people.

Mother’s Day is the second time I have placed an order with this company, the first time being Christmas. I live two provinces over and it is so nice to have a local bakery deliver treats to my family in Courtenay. From what my family tells me everything is beautiful and tastes delicious. Thank you for helping me make my grandma and family feeling special!

A very beautiful bakery and a very nice and excellent place to buy some very dellicious chocalates. I am always happy to shop there and I always have a nice positive experience there. Check this place out the next time you are in Downtown Courtenay because you will be happy.

I had the best blueberry danish of my life, no, the best danish period.
It had piles of real blueberries and the pastry was brushed with just a hint of sweet, was flaky on the outside, and tender on the inside. Yum!

I ordered a few things to be delivered to my Grandma in Courtenay and I can't express how grateful I am to the team at Hot Chocolates. Everything was wonderful - I ordered a sour dough bread, pecan bars, and a box of sea salt caramels (my grandma loves caramel) and she loved everything she received. Thank-you Hot Chocolates for adding some warmth into her life.

Update: I sincerely appreciate that the store has kept masks mandatory for now to keep their staff and customers safe. The sign at the door is clear, and they have an alternate place to order if you don't wear a mask, so there's no reason to fuss if you can't be bothered to put a mask on for 2 minutes.

The staff are always lovely and the bread is the best in town. For everyone so fussed about the increase in price in chocolates, they switched over to fair trade, ethically sourced chocolate a year ago, so you can rest assured that your chocolate is not associated with slave labour - totally worth the cost, in my opinion.

My No.1 go to place in Cumberland. Excellent chocolates and baking goods.

Excellent bread and competitively priced. Cakes and pastries and chocolates are very expensive but you get what you pay for. It's a shame they took away the seating.

Their chocolates are pretty good, but the real reason to hit up this place (in my opinion) is the bakery and olive oil section! Really unique and high quality stuff that is so delicious! I come to Courtenay from Vancouver to refill on Basil infused olive oil on the regular!
