Boatshed Restaurant

Came from Melbourne and had dinner here with a friend. We got recommended to this place from a local and it was perfect! We came on a 37° degree day and originally booked to eat outside, but they moved us inside because they knew how hot it was, and it was such a smart idea. They placed us in the corner right next to the window and the view of the lake was amazing - especially because we came around sunset.
Perri & Anna served us, and they were excellent - checked in on us at great intervals, and were very lovely. We felt very well-taken care of.
The food was superb after a long day out - we started with the "Assiet of Oysters" which were delicious and a whole experience with 3 different flavours, then we had the Crispy Salmon as a main. The mocktails were delightful (strawberry fields & pink flower), and we had the daily cheesecake for dessert - it was a lovely apple, raspberry & chocolate cheesecake - felt like this perfect marriage of chocolate and fruit.
This is a perfect spot for a date, definitely recommending it to my friends & parents for a night out.

We had a fabulous lunch here, on the deck, out over the lake. It was a glorious day, the view was delightful, and the ducks, coots and swans were fun to watch. The food was delicious and the service was friendly and attentive. An excellent 90th birthday lunch for my mother.

A great atmosphere looking over Lake Wendouree. We were going to try something else, but we always seem to come back to the trusty barramundi in a crispy batter. Doesn’t matter. After the baked cheese cake I felt a little fatter. All in all a great lunch with a vibrant chatter.

We always have a great time when we eat at the Boatshed.
The food is always very good but I think the menu could be changed a bit more often. Otherwise the Service is always excellent and who could say anything bad about the atmosphere when you have the Lake to look at.

Excellent location with beautiful lake view, stylish decoration, delicious food and great service. Absolutely a 5-star restaurant!

We held our daughter's 21st in the room at the end looking out over the lake and it couldn't have been more perfect.

The staff were exceptional, always helpful and attentive (and remember our names!), but the star of the show was the food. It was fantastic - fresh and delicious. The serving times were well spaced, and as good as the savoury round were, the mini pavlovas nearly caused a stampede.

Enjoyed a fantastic evening celebrating my father’s 88th birthday. The food was very good as was the ambience. The service was impeccable by our two lovely hostesses who were friendly, accommodating and prompt. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they always had a smile in their faces. Thank you.

Picture a charming restaurant right by a pretty lake. Inside, it feels all warm and comfortable with wooden decorations and soft lights. You can see the lake through big windows, and there are cool black swans walking around on the land and cute ducks swimming on the lake. It's a peaceful and lovely place to have a cozy meal and enjoy the beautiful views. Their beef is really good in medium rare.

Excellent food and drinks. About 5 of us went here on a day trip. It was a rainy cold day, we got a nice table by the windows with the beautiful view outside. We got the seafood platter, prawns gnocchi, pork ribs and mushroom pizza - all excellent! Everyone was raving about how good the food was. We also got some wines and espresso martinis, again all good! Our second time here, and each time we come in here, we are blown away by how good this place is. Thank you Boatshed team!

Our first time at Boatshed Restaurant and we weren't disappointed. The food was perfect, service friendly and attentive, and great atmosphere all contributed to our lovely evening. With views over the water to the afternoon sunset, we couldn't have asked for more. Highly recommend.

Was driving from Adelaide to Geelong and wanted to also stop by Ballarat to have a quick look. What better than to stop by a restaurant right on Lake Wendouree? I was toying with my chances when I visited for dinner as I had no idea what time I'd arrive if I were to make a reservation. Thankfully, the restaurant was relatively empty and we got seated rather quickly.

Water was promptly served and we went with the tasting menu for $60 a person. The variety was great and I can't recommend the Japanese fried chicken enough. I was a little wary about having Asian inspired dishes in a mostly western restaurant but they proved me absolutely wrong. It turned out to be the best chicken karaage I've ever had!

All other dishes were awesome too. However, pork belly was a little too small and could've been bigger but taste was 100% on point.

I had the crispy salmon and it was just wonderful paired with a Riesling. Although the day was on the cool side we were lovley and warm out on the covered in deck. The decor is very French Provincial and warm I could move in ! Would highly recommend and I will be back.

Incredible! The food was absolutely fabulous for every one of our 10 diners in our group. The service was excellent from extremely friendly and very efficient staff who were happy to help us in any way! A beautiful view while we enjoyed the delicious lunch. Even the bathrooms are extremely pleasant! I cannot rate our experience here highly enough! Thank you staff of The Boatshed!

Had a lovely dinner with a friend. The share platters were delicious as you get a taste of a few things. The Karage chicken is amazing. As I non drinker loved the mocktail options and enjoyed two. Wonderful staff and highly recommend.

Myself and my little girl of 13yrs attended The Boatshed Friday 12th April 2024, visiting friends celebrating a graduation. The staff welcomed us and were extremely accommodating to my little girls needs as she has a disability. Staff member Sarah was amazing.

I took my family to the Boatshed Restaurant to celebrate a special mothers day afternoon tea. Staff were very welcoming, the venue was busy, but tables were well spaced so you didn't feel crammed in, with sufficient staff working to ensure quality service. The Boatshed grazing plate with local produce was delicious, and the cheese cake was joy on a plate! The views over the lake are the best in Ballarat and overall the experience was first class. Not the first time I've been to this venue,\ and won't be the last, a real jewel in the Ballarat culinary scene crown. Thanks to the team for a great afternoon out.

A lovely Restaurant just on the edge of Lake Wendouree. The Atmosphere is excellent, particularly when you are sitting with a coffee ☕ and of course a sticky date pudding with caramel fudge sauce and ice cream! Who cares about the cold weather ❄ when the location and service, not to forget your friends are making the atmosphere comfortable. Enjoy! 😊
UPDATE! Still a lovely place to go too, catch up with a friend and the coffee is still lovely!
