Jean-Pascal Patisserie

I visited based on a friend's recommendation, I'm in Hobart for a one day business trip. I'm so glad that I managed to squeeze this place in, what an awesome place. I had a simple breakfast, a savoury croissant and coffee. But the quality, flavour and texture of the food is simply perfect. I wish I had the time or the capacity for dessert, I've bought cookies for my trip back to Sydney and would be sharing them with family and friends.

Although there is a cafe associated with this place my review is all about their cakes.

I've used them a few times and have found them to be great. Their cakes are delicious and very reasonably priced. I have never been disappointed. I haven't used the cafe but would have to assume that the level of quality would mist likely be carried through to that part.

But the staff deserve a special mention as they have always been friendly and willing to assist. Especially in my case, as I'm fairly bad at deciding when it came to decorating a couple of the cakes. They were able to easily offer suggestions and I was happy on all occasions (as were the recipients of the cakes).

Great work people. Will pop in for a coffee and some lunch very soon.

I love Jean Pascal! It is so nice to have a French cafe in Hobart and the food is so delicious AND very affordable! Everything is really great and so traditional French from the desserts with the mille feuille to the breakfast with the egg and bacon roll to the lunch options! Thank you for offering us a little bit of France in here! :)

Great place, friendly staff. Has both eat in and takeaway meals. Owned and run by a very passionate French man and his hard working staff. A lovely slice of Paris in the quite suburb of New Town . Need a break from Calvary Hosptial or a quite place to catchup with family and friends over good coffee. 👍

Came here for breakfast with my daughter for the 1st time. Small cosy cafe. We both enjoyed our food & the chai tea was nice too!
Price is reasonable & ambience is cosy.

Desserts: we had carrot cake & chocolate cake 😋👍both were delicious! We will be back soon!

I love Jean so fresh, good food. The pate is so good. The lamb shnak is awesome. The lamb salad rolls are the best and I can go on and on.

I stumbled across this place by accident while going for a stroll a few days ago. Which was fortunate because I had been meaning to contact the owner. Unfortunately, I did not have the brass to drag him out of his office, but I may do in the future..

To thank him. NOBODY in Australia makes baguettes like this. Absolutely A-grade top-shelf bread making, and we are extremely lucky to have a craftsman like this in the hood. I have sampled a few other things, all excellent... but those baguettes are a triumph. Get yourself a few and watch them disappear over lunch with some good friends. Beautiful stuff. Really.

As for the two businesses attached to the bakery itself, I will offer one small criticism. While the cafe is cute and French and perfectly fine. The patisserie across the road seems a bit cramped and shadowed by the trees outside. This might provide much-needed shade in summer but the product being put out here is SO good that it seemed unnecessary to have large shelves restricting the space inside. I only mention it because while waiting in line nobody could move past and the back of the business felt somewhat inaccessible.

Other than that I can only sing it praises. If you want a treat and VERY well-made bread. It's the spot.

The cakes and cookies here are incredibly well priced and taste delicious. Particularly the opera cake, nothing like it in Hobart. Love stopping by this patisserie on my way home to pick up a sweet treat or packet of baked goods.

I have been here quite a few times over the last year. The food is wonderful, and presentation is always impressive. Its a lovely spot to sit outside in the shade or sun and watch the world go by. Staff are always friendly and service is prompt, even when they are busy. It is nice to see the broad age range in both customers and staff. Overall, a very comfortable and welcoming atmosphere.

Amazing staff and food is so delicious, reminds me of home.

I go out of my way to drive past and get a coffee or baguette. Bread is delicious, their takeaway meals are amazing and wonderful value. Great pricing on food and extra friendly staff.

We had a fantastic meal delivered whilst in home Quarantine. Great service and great food. The food was tasty, fresh and easy to heat. What fantastic value for money. We were more than satisfied.

Such a great little patisserie. The weather was perfect for sitting outside. Staff are also very friendly and didn't mind that we had our puppy with us. Food is really tasty and reasonably priced.

Still an old favourite that I've been going to since studying in Tasmania. It's a nice quiet little area where you can just relax and wind down. The European Hot Chocolate is a must and the best time to visit is outside normal school hours when there isn't a lot of traffic.

The most exquisite of bakery products to be had in Hobart. Cafe is situated in the beautiful northern suburbs of New Town on the corner of Baker and Carlton Street. It is a quaint location just across the road from the Jean Pascal wholesale outlet. The service and the coffee is excellent highly recommend visiting here.

We only had coffees but so nice we went back for a second cup. Staff are very nice. It's a gem of a place if you like a peaceful place. I will certainly go back again. Thank you. 👍

What would New Town brunches be without Jean Pascal? I've been to Jean Pascal at least a dozen times over the last few years and it's been wonderful every time. The lasagna is the stuff dreams are made of, the garden salad is generous and fresh comes with a wonderful vinaigrette, the pies are excellent. I recommend an iced coffee and the apple pie (served warm with a generous helping of cream and homemade raspberry coulis). The staff are just lovely. I generally order at the counter as they are quite busy, but they do table service as well.
