City Mission Op Shop Moonah Clothing

Alright, here it comes. This review has been a long time coming and the excellence of mission op shops have provided the perfect opportunity to do so.

This organisation is the gold standard. I have lived and moved all over Australia never stopping in a town for more than 7 years and I can say without a doubt, after 40 odd years, that the state of charity shops in Australia is at an all time low.

And it would be almost defunct if it wasn't for some of the off brand church/animal welfare spots dotted across the land.

Seriously, what happened Vinnie's, Salvos and Lifeline? Where is the charity? High prices and stock that is distributed via warehouses into the foulness of 'Charity Beautique'... Absolutely disgraceful. Every item is pricechecked online and the magic that once was opshops in this country stripped bare.

And then there are places like City Mission. Where you can ALWAYS find something that makes life easier on a budget... And not only that occasionally find something genuinely special, because it hasn't been gathered in warehouses and strained through a collander to maximise profit... And it is still run by a small, generous organisation that redistributes wealth into community in which it operates.

Whoever the district manager is in Hobart and the surrounding suburbs deserves to be credited with serious respect. Your stores are well organised, priced, lit and have friendly staff who obviously love volunteering because of the atmosphere you have created.

If I had one wish it would be that jams and chutneys return to the counters of these places.

Other than that; 5 stars.

HUGE op shop. Friendly and helpful staff. Full of useful and interesting things - clothes, electrical, cutlery, crockery, DVD's, VHS's, and even a giant wine glass full of buttons! Well worth a look.

My fave Hobart op shop. Massive, which means there is something for everyone. I love that womens clothing is sorted by size, otherwise you would be there all day. The clothing pricing system is also simplified and you can get a bargain.
The vintage section is a hidden gem.

This is a huge space, with a wide range of good quality second-hand stock. I love that the clothes are sorted not just by type and size range but colour too!!
All the staff I have encountered are super friendly and helpful.

Excellent op-shop with a vintage section that you’ll always find something unique in. Really good book section too.

This is the last bastion of true opportunity shopping. They are staffed by people who genuinely care about people with not a whiff of religious dogma to be found. If anyone has forgotten the true meaning of the word "epic", this gargantuan department store for the 98% is just exactly that: Epic!

City mission op shop is the best op shop in Tasmania by a country mile I have visited all op shop city mission has as good as new men Dress Jackets for 7 dollars trousers all mens wear and Ladies at least 60percent cheaper than Salvos St vinnies. Red cross shops are so overwhelming dear. The get donated clothing from public and are not what charity is all about. City miszion alzo has 15 pieces of quality ladies clothing for 15 DOLLARS. So happy with my purchase here. The prices are reasonable, staffs are super friendly. Highly recommend for anyone who want to buy secondhand furniture.

I had some bags including a heavy one to donate, was unsure of where to go. The ladies in the shop were friendly and extremely helpful.

Fantastic charity they have helped me so much even though I'm not homeless they helped me with blankets and food not only that I find heaps of stuff in the freebie box in the op shop at west hobart what can I say well done city mission you guys are pure angels 😇🤗😘
