The Birdhouse Apollo Bay

Stopped here for breakfast, located above the Scallop Pie door to the right leading up to a lovely eatery. The lookout is a wonderful view of the sea, atmosphere cozy and friendly. Service great, food equally lovely! Gluten free options available and tasted great :)

Nice ambiance and tasty food. When the weather is nice, they open the beautiful windows over the Main Street, for a gorgeous sea breeze.

There’s only one hot tip: all of their entrees are great, but you can skip the croquettes!

We have been coming to Apollo bay since 1994. I remember there used be many NICE restaurants. We could not find decent restaurants except this one. I had spaghetti with chorizo and prawn in tomato sauce. To me it was authentic southern Italian taste. Not sure chef knows how good that sauce was? Or just came out great that day? It was delicious. Only - point was that lacking a couple of piece of bread so I can suck all the delicious sauce in the bottom of plate! I will have the same next time we visit them. Great atmosphere up there! Good local beer with frozen glass is a great touch as well. Thank you so much for making great food!

We shared a tasty Cuban sandwich with a side order of fries. The fries were hot, crispy and thin cut (just the way I like ‘m) and came with aioli sauce. We salted them with salt flakes. Delicious. There were enough fries to share with our two other friends. Views of the ocean as the restaurant is on the 2nd floor. Open windows (see photo). Lovely breezes. Pleasant welcoming service. Not handicap accessible. Can recommend this place for a quick meal.

One of the finest restaurants in Apollo Bay. Tried here for the first time in two years and seafood we had was outstanding. Also enjoyed the water view.

Arrived for lunch but wanted to have a few drinks before ordering and this was not o problem.
The staff were accommodating to what ever we wanted, not pushing to get a food order in at the same time ensuring we had drinks all the time.
It’s nit an extensive menu but I’ll of quality choices.
The Ruben sandwich is to die for as well as the Scallop agnolotti with burnt butter even better.
Even the fries and aioli very tasty.

Absolutely the gem of Apollo Bay.
We walked along the main strip and nothing caught our eye until we saw this place. Lovely menu and gorgeous venue.
Went out of their way to cater for my vegan husband. The chef here knows what he is doing. Breathtaking views, delicious food & wine, superb atmosphere and fine service. We had a phenomenal experience.

Our favourite spot for lunch or dinner every time we get the opportunity to head down south to Apollo Bay.

Great location, view and interior! The food is amazing, coffee was good too! They can be a bit busy and the seating arrangement can be a bit tight at times.

It’s a nice restaurant with nice view. It would be great if we could get a window sit. The seafood hotpot I ordered was delicious. The restaurant was quite packed on Thursday night. I would like to visit again if pass by the bay next time.

Dined here on a busy Friday night and it was a great experience. Service was very prompt, and food came out extremely quickly too. It was a cold evening but it was super cosy upstairs. Oysters and kingfish ceviche were delicious, as was the table bread. The seafood paella for two was a very generous portion - doubt you’ll leave here hungry!

Had the fettuccine carbonara and beef ragu, carbonara was not too saucy and the egg seemed a bit scrambled but still tasted delicious. The beef in the ragu is very tender and the sauce is well seasoned. Food arrived hot and decently fast.

Absolutely delicious. We ordered the squid entree (which was real) and the seafood Paella; authentic crust formed on the bottom, sticky rice and well cooked seafood. We were umming and arring the entire meal.

Great food and service! The chargrilled octopus w/ eggplant puree was the highlight. Also, the seafood and chorizo Paella. Also, the chocolate fondant. In summary, everything.

This restaurant is unparalleled in tiny Apollo Bay... So much so that we came here twice within 12 hours. Fantastic creative food, a fabulous view of Apollo Bay hustle and bustle and friendly attentive service.

Great place to chill and grab a tasty meal looking out over the sea. We also greatly appreciated the coloring picture and pencils that kept my 4 yr old occupied so my wife and I could relax and enjoy a meal. Will be back.

Excellent birthday dinner for my husband. We started with a mozzarella and baguette entree, followed by the paella. Both were delicious.

Service was attentive but not hovering, and the ambiance was lovely.

Nested in a restaurant that resembles a birdhouse, the food was far from seeded and simple. The Birdhouse presents sophisticated yet approachable food. We had the vegetarian option which was full of flavour, crunch and satisfaction. The wine selection was refined and thoughtful. Our service experience was attentative and friendly. And finally, the view into the sandbank trees peaking around the ocean was gorgeous. An excellent dining experience I would recommend for all.

I bring a group down the Great Ocean Road weekly, and we always have lunch at The Birdhouse. Stunning views, magnificent menu, sumptuous and delicious food, all with wonderful warm service.
I highly recommend The Birdhouse for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Dinner for two, with a table overlooking the ocean. Friendly, attentive service (although perhaps could reduce the number of times wait staff did a table walk-by).
Great food from the specials menu: slow-cooked beef cheek and garlic mash, and lamb fillet with walnut, beetroot and goat’s cheese. Beautifully cooked and plated. My only suggestion is for some crusty bread to accompany the braised beef cheek and mash - would have loved to mop up the delicious gravy.
Very pleased with our dining choice.
