The Salamanca Whisky Bar

I came here last weekend after a dinner around the corner. We initially attempted to get into The Den but it was absolutely packed, so we kept walking. What drew me in was the warm and welcoming aesthetic. There is a lot of glass, candles, and exposed wood, which gives the establishment a rustic, almost French feel to it.

My only complaint, which I recognized quite early, was the smell. I'm not sure if it was a candle or incense burning or some kind of diffuser, but whatever it was, it was incredibly hard to deal with. I also have asthma, so I am hyper-aware of things like this. It may not be a huge problem for others.

We were moved from the initial table we were sitting at to the lounge, which we sunk right into. I loved the oversized pillows; it created a homely feel. We ordered the Mexican Mudslide and a Bloody Mary. They were both huge!! 5 stars for presentation and value for money. I could literally not even finish mine, which I think is always a good sign. The Mexican Mudslide had a nice scoop of creamy chocolate ice cream on top with shards of dark chocolate. I was impressed with the cheese-filled salami on top of the Bloody Mary; it's quite creative!

I saw a lot of desserts come out, and although I didn't order food, they all looked amazing. After watching people order, I assume it looked as good as it tasted. There is a HUGE range of whisky from all corners of the globe, which can create quite a bespoke experience with that amount of choice.

I was amused by some of the comments I have since read about the single spoon policy. I absolutely agree that you should be providing more than one spoon if people are sharing, as it is not the decision of the establishment whether a person is capable of or wanting to eat a slice to themselves or not. While my personal experience was a 5/5, it would certainly have been less enjoyable if I had encountered this issue.

I can't believe we found this hidden gem in Hobart! The cozy winter hunter-style furniture makes you feel right at home, and the cocktails are pure artistry. The unique glassware and the warm glow of ambient lighting, including those awesome antler-style lamps, create the perfect atmosphere. Watching the cocktail-making process is a treat in itself, not to be missed. We returned every day of our stay - it's a true treasure. And at just $10 for a happy hour (that goes for half a day each day) cocktail, it's a bargain you'll absolutely adore! No kids allowed inside is a bonus too! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Beautifully designed whiskey bar with great tasting sets and chocolates. Cocktails are great as well. Staff are very friendly and guide you for the best experience. Very nice atmosphere. 👌

The Whiskey Bar is our go too place for great cocktails, service and experience. We highly recommend trying the Whiskey Sour and Mojito. The Whiskey Bar has a beautiful, relaxed, and sophisticated atmosphere which is a great way to end our work week, start your weekend, and catch up with friends or significant other. The female maitre d' goes above and beyond and has always made us feel very welcomed.

Amazing, high-quality cocktails (very reasonable at $20 each), super knowledgable staff able to discuss everything I wanted to know about Tasmanian whisky. My only regret is I couldn't try more of the cocktails (and how I feel the next morning after probably trying more than I should). A really classy but relaxed late-night lounge bar feel. Could not recommend more highly.

Nice place for drinks and cake. On this Sunday winter evening the old fashioned and Negroni drinks were excellent. Delicious huge serve of mud cake with lashings of whipped cream. Will visit again next time for more whisky.

Lovely experience, we’re a chocoholic couple catching places for a coffee and cake after 4pm 🍰☕ This place was absolutely amazing, great atmosphere and music.

Salamanca Whiskey Bar is a hunting lodge meets New York Jazz Club. As you walk in, you’re not only welcome by attentive staff, but also the warm scent of whiskey. Not only do they create personalised Whiskey Flights, but also a twist on classic cocktails. With countless numbers of Whiskey’s on the menu, you will be sure to find something to cater to your pallet. Did I also mention, there’s dessert? The chocolate caramel tart? TO DIE FOR.

It was a cold April night when we visited. The place was warm and inviting. Absolutely loved the aesthetic of the bar. The vibe and decor was on point. The whiskey cocktail list gave us so many choices it was hard. The old fashioned lady and Innuendo cocktails were our favourites.

The perfect place for the Tasmanian Whisky experience. Beautiful decor, relaxed atmosphere, and friendly staff who know all about what they have on offer. Unashamedly parochial (almost all the whiskies are Tasmanian). I recommend trying a flight, a set of 3 whiskies related by region, style or maker - talk to your bartender to work out which one is right for you. Open late (last orders at 11pm) so perfect for a nightcap at the end of the evening.

From the knowledge of the guys to the atmosphere, i would recommend it to any whiskey lover. Tip: definitely take one of 5he flights. :-)

Outstanding whiskey den. Their original drinks were outstanding and their off beat single malt selection was top shelf. The staff were friendly and engaging. The French Toast Martini did not disappoint. I was also able to find the only Ardbeg Committee Single Malt I hadn’t already had. Will definitely return.

$10 happy hour, well worth it, the cocktails were beautifully made, glassware and garnishes were perfect.

Absolutely unbelievable world of whiskey. The ambiance leaves you wanting to stay forever! The Paper Plane cocktail was stunning. A creation of the owner. The whiskey sour was best I’ve tried.
The vegan cake blew us away!! Best ever

Delicious cocktails in a lovely atmospheric bar. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about their fabulous (large) selection of Tasmanian whisky. Definitely worth a stop and taste!
