John's Carvery and Burgers - Hunter Mall Food Court, Newcastle

Easy 5/5 stars - mouth watering meals, decent portion sizes and very reasonable prices.

Place is a little out of the way but if you happen to be in the area + want a decent meal that's not deep fried (they specialize in roasts not deep fried food) then its worth taking the time to find the place.

Main access is via a set of 'stairs' (a broken escalator) but there is a more disabled friendly entrance around the back of the building.

Had a fish burger from John's in July this year whilst on vacation. Been there before. Delicious and reasonably priced.
People of Newcastle-do you know about this place? It's a hidden gem.
Do you know the arcade that branches off Hunter Street Mall? It had the Rivers store and Go Lo at one stage in it? John's is in there in the old food court where the Oak outlet once was.They have their sign at the bottom of the now defunct escalator. His wife and he are the last of the food sellers in there. Go eat there or grab a bite there sometime. You'll be happy with the food, price and service for sure. Huge range of food! John and his wife are a lovely couple! I will go back again and take friends next time.

Also I believe the only place in town to do a daily potato bake.

The amazing, 25+ years friendly service and relations are why the carvery is still there and the rest are boarded up.

Been coming here since I was a young boy really going to miss this place best home made meals rolls burgers and all of the above brilliant 👏 👏👏

The go-to place to eat in Newcastle CBD. Hopefully the store survives and reopens in the new development once complete

$10 roast lunches, huge portion sizes, seriously can't go wrong. John you're my messiah, praise be to John
