The Hahndorf Old Mill Hotel

We came here only for a meal during a stopover on our road trip, not only was Hahndorf absolutely stunning but the staff at The Old Mill were the loveliest we met on our whole trip, they even gave us a free dessert for no other reason than for us to have a lovely end to our night!
Absolutely beautiful people that work there, and the food is extremely generous portions too so take your appetite! Absolutely more than worth the money! 100% recommend!

Stayed only one night. Check-in was a breeze, price was great, plenty of parking, staff were fantastic, and food was great; best steak I've had in a long time!

Rooms could do with an update and buy some better toilet paper!🤣

Did mention a great a great selection of wine.

All in all, a great budget experience.

A seniors group on a bus trip. Lunch at The Old Mill. A separate room was prepared. Staff very helpful. Service efficient. Meals were tasty and wee prepared. Lots of choice on seniors $18 menu. Unable to change salad because computer did not allow for it so had to leave most of the salad. A minor problem in a very pleasant time.

Great place for lunch and dinner. Clint is a top bloke and noes how to run a business. Best steak in the hills by far will continue to come back. Staff all great and always have a smile 😁

Our family come here everytime we visit Hahndorf and it is a beautiful venue with beautiful hospitality! Classic pub vibes in an old classic building. Food is exceptional! Great variety of food and we’ve not had a bad meal ever. Steaks cooked perfectly. We really cannot fault this place.

Hahndorf was very busy Sunday. This hotel is big and had room for everyone.
Service as soon as we walked in the door was great.
We had the chicken pizza and a bowl of chips. Very nice.
Old mill lager is as a nice drop.

Can't comment on rooms. But food is good. 3 pool tables, 2 x dart boards and a huge space. The Buddha Bowl was awesome.

Great Steakhouse. Went for dinner with a large group. All food came out at the same time. All cooked amazingly. Very tasty

Great place, food was good, but warm to cold when it came put. There were 16 of us, but as they were trying to bring our meals put all at the same time, they were cold most of us had the same issue.
When food is ordered, food should come out in order of how the food is ordered, that way the food will be hot as should be.
We aren't worried about whether we all eat at the same time.
Cold chips, cold fish, cold roast of the day, apart from that issue, food was of good quality, & fresh.
We all ate it anyway, conversation was our main reason for the get together, a catchup between friend's.
Only complaint, above the food being served cold, was I ordered 'Bangers & Mash' from the menu, to be told I couldn't have that. It was on the menu, is one of favourite dishes I like to have when I dine out, so I had to hurry myself & order something in a hurry, that I was expecting to do.
A Question!,
What has happened to the wonderful smorgasbord style of service you had, when we last came for lunch at the Mill?
Where we paid a price, & helped ourselves to a good spread & variety, & selection of food ?! You need to bring that back, it's what attracted us to the Mill in the first place, it's what our group expected, from last time we came there.
Not as good as it was on previous occasions.
Being told that I couldn't have what I ordered, is a cop out by the establishment, owners running the hotel.
We were there at 11:30 am, for a 12 midday start, so it wasn't like the 'Bangers & Mash' had ran out !?!?

I can't speak on the rooms portion, only the dining experience. If the prices look big, that's because the portion sizes are equally as big. I made the mistake of ordering an entree to have as a side for my main, only for the entree to be as big as a main on its own. Thankfully they offer take home boxes so I was able to finish my main later in that day. The onion rings were the real deal, a bit oily, but that's just the nature of deep frying, came with barbeque sauce and aioli. My southern chicken burger came with a side of chips which I had to pass to another member of the table after having a bit because I wasn't expecting a more normal portion size. The burger itself was tall, but otherwise nice and succulent, even though most of it was had at home. The one thing I will have to say though is that I'd like for milk based drinks to be visible on the menu. I would have grabbed an iced chocolate had I known it was possible, so I ended up getting a sprite for hydration, which came in a decently large glass with a few ice cubes (not half a glass of ice like some places do, simply enough to keep the drink chilled for the duration of my meal

Stopped in for lunch. Had the beef cheeks. Just wonderful. Melt in your mouth. Delicious. Lovely staff. Historic surrounds. Clean and tastful decor. Will make this a stopping place again.

The hotel staff were amazing, best customer service and care ever. They went above and beyond to help make our stay as smooth as possible. Beautiful rooms too, love the beams on the roof.

Family and I stayed upstairs in the main building, overlooking the main street. It was very cute and cosy, which definitely fit in with the old time German settler vibe.
We will definitely stay here again.

Staff were great, very friendly and helpfull. Food was very good.

Great little room, very old but did the trick, in the centre of this little town, lots of parking and the food was amazing, the staff very friendly and helpful, it is a busy street so if staying on the street side it can be noisy

Accomodation only: booked this as a cheap and cheerful option for one night. Check in was quick and when I asked about breakfast recommendations was greeted by a lot of wonderful suggestions. The room was old world charm, small but adequate for one. Bed was comfortable and shower was hot. Being above pub and on street some traffic noise as to be expected but mid week during holidays not much noise from downstairs (more noise from adjoining rooms). Easy walking distance to Main Street shops and cafes. Loads of parking, bus stop out front. Good base to explore the hills.

Stayed in the main building and dined in May 2023. First stay was back in 2017. It was good, that's why we returned. Room amenities have been added, room condition improved tremendously over the years. Service was great. Good wine selection and food was 👍 despite a busy night and understaffed kitchen. No doubt about it, we will stay here again next time. Highly recommended.

Had a chicken schnizel, very nice! Great range of drinks and reasonably priced. Will come back ❤
