Childers Pharmaceutical Museum

What a fascinating little museum on the main road in Childers.
We only stopped for a coffee, but saw the sign and went in, what a find, many items over a hundred years old, beautiful original tile floor as well as the display cases. Many original bottles, jars and tins of remedies. The original cash register is great, still in the same position it was from 1940. Lots of items we have seen before in similar museums at home in the UK.
You can have a short guided tour behind the scenes, $5 per adult, in the back an ancient dentist chair, also an appointment book you can look at detailing a day in the life of the chemist, he also was the vet, dentist, chemist, optician and anaesthetist for the local hospital.

This was an excellent little museum on the main street of Childers. Very easy to miss if you didn't know it was there. Volunteers were very knowledgeable and friendly, making the visit even more memorable.

Gives a great insight into life at Childers in the 1800s, more specifically regarding the pharmacy and Mr Graydon who started it all those years ago. It is great to see that so many items have been retained, even down to the bottle labels used at the time, the pharmacist's prescription book and the biggest dictionary I have ever seen.

Overall, it was well worth the visit and, contrary to the website, only for a gold coin donation. Well done to the volunteers for keeping the place going.

What a gem! The staff were lovely and took us around to look at all the medicines. Being a nurse I absolutely love to learn about early pharmacology and the guide was so knowledgeable. Must visit.

Beautifully preserved collections..staff/guide's are very friendly and knowledgeable. I even learnt a little about my family histoy.
Highly recommend taking some time out, to go back in time.

A magical place with some real historical gems. The old cash register is worth a look alone! The volunteer staff are very knowledgeable and lovely.
