Vanidols South Hobart

Great Asian food! Was recommended by our airbnb host and we decided to give it a try. The duck wraps were wrapped in some sort of roti which were amazing. The signature pork belly dish and rendang curry were great too! Rendang dish was very spicy but we loved it. Prices are high but generous portions for each dish.

Wonderfully fresh, warm spices, just perfect. Seafood basket and green curry was amazing. Don’t skip the duck wrap.

I came to vanidols in the 1990s in North Hobart. The owner has moved to South Hobart. The food was fantastic then and still is today. I can see why he has lasted for this long period of time.
Still great, thanks for looking after us again. We will be back.

Meet your long lost Thai Mumma - Sumana. She loves to cook and feed her family, that is all of her customers.
She will craft an experience for you after hearing your needs. TRex, Vego or Vegan, no problem, I cook for you something special. One of our dishes she said I have never done that combination before, new menu item.
Her cooking classes are where you will learn mumma’s secrets, we already made the tentative booking.
Oh yes, I grow the herbs out the back or at home, I can get all the genuine Thai ingredients now after a lot of work.

What can I say, friendly, efficient, great atmosphere and the food was two steps above any other Asian inspired food I have had. Had a great chat with Van about my 30 year story about the beginnings of Vanidols. We are down from Brisbane 3 - 4 times each year and as a former local will absolutely be back.

Was introduced to Vanidols by friends shortly after moving to Hobart, Very impressed, we have since been back on several occassions and the food and service is always great, the Roti is a must with every meal.

We had a super meal at Vanidols South Hbt last night. Staff were excellent, welcoming and efficient. Started with duck wraps, would like recipe please !! Absolutely great starter followed by butter curry chicken and lamb curry, both with great depth in the curry flavour. We accompanied this with an XO Pinot Syrah from SA, excellent choice to complement the dishes and great to be able to BYO wine with a $13 corkage fee. Thank you to all staff, we shall return soon.

Vanidols is a charming friendly restaurant. I have come here several times now and the food is consistent. The wine list is well priced with lots of Tassie options. The restaurant is comfortable and cosy, I love it. We have pad Thai and fish cakes often, and last time we tried beef massamun which was divine.

I had called and pre-booked however when I showed up they couldn't find my booking, they still seated us. Later they came back to apologise as the booking was in the book however there was just a mix up with the name being misspelled and the gentleman was apologetic. The best satay I have ever had! The curry was also delicious! Will definitely be back next time we are in Hobart!

Brilliant Thai food. We had the duck rolls and they were really good. Chicken satays were also great and the garnish on the side was tasty and refreshing. We chose the beef massaman curry which was different to what we normally get from a Thai restaurant but it was full of flavour and the beef was very tender.

GREAT food. Lovely and fresh. Menu has regular specials and the people are wonderful. DON'T make the mistake of thinking the one in North Hobart is the same. It is NOT this Vanidols and it is terrible!

Absolutely fantastic!
We stumbled across Vanidol's while looking for a restaurant that could cater to vegetarians/vegans and people with (unusual) allergies. Sumana, the chef, was amazing and willing to go above and beyond for our group. The food was incredible with a large range of dishes available - we wish we could've tried all of them! The staff were very friendly and the restaurant overall has a very cosy, comfortable ambiance.
I will definitely be coming here again when I visit Hobart in the future!

June 2022 visit. We stopped by on our Tasmania holiday (recommended by our Airbnb Host). Visiting from Singapore and after 2 weeks of holidays in Tasmania, we were craving for some authentic Southeast Asian taste. Very pleasantly surprised by the authenticity , especially of the rendang (good level of spiciness, yums)! Owner started chatting with us and was very friendly. Highly recommend a visit here!

Great, really yummy! We called after 1930 but could have just arrived. Busy but not overrun. Quick and delicious, had stir fry pork with chili and ginger, and veg pad thai
