Great building, all air-conditioned, great staff - so helpful and friendly.
Lots to learn about barramundi 🐟. ( Pity we have to eat them 😕 )
But, the principle of keeping the barramundi fishing industry alive is fantastic 👏

Karumba is an interesting town. Definitely worth a visit.

The family all went out for the barra for the tour on Easter day, and wow was so much fun, all the staff are so fantastic, so nice to see the cafe have Merlo coffee, was beautiful, the tour was a lot of fun and learnt a lot and the highlight was getting to feed the barramundi, was so much fun. The whole family loved it. Again thank you to all the staff who made for a great experience on our holiday.

The venue was mostly closed down for the season, but we still found it really interesting. Local fisherman Ben was manning the desk and was a wealth of information. Will definitely go back next year to do the tour and visit the Cafe.

The best thing in Karumba. Brilliant facilities, great displays, great Cafe and friendly staff. The guided tour should not be missed. Super informative and feeding the huge barramundi is a blast. Highly recommended

I love informational centers on local wildlife and this is both informational and hands on. The center stocks and breeds healthy little barramundi to release back into the wild to ensure their populations never drop to a concerning level! We opted to feed the fish which was also super fun!

Amazing 🤩 experience!!! The discovery center was full of interactive and interesting information ℹ!!! We learned so much about barra life such as reproduction, food and all sorts of things you need to know about them. It was very interactive with quizzes and buttons to press and learn about barra life. The great thing is that it’s free and doesn’t take long to go through all the readings and activities. Had such an amazing time there.

Went, expecting feeding barramundi to be a ho hum experience. Its not! Worth a visit. Take the time to watch the short movies -especially the one about the unique Morning Glory. Also very happy to have supported a venture that this town developed to protect its own future for fishing... and keep good stocks of barra for us who enjoy barra.

Second visit this year. Even more information and gift options of local and local theme items. Cafe was good food for a fair price. Helpful staff and very interesting couple of hours.

We visited the Barra Centre today and found the whole experience very enjoyable and interesting. We didn’t book any tours but still found all the information, history and presentation to be a great tourist attraction, with a very nice cafe with reasonable prices. We would highly recommend a visit. In fact, don’t miss it if you’re in Karumba!

We visited when had a hiccup in our trip. We were lucky to enjoy the place. the museum is free and well presented, along with other information on related topics (also free). The staff are wonderful and the feeding tour was excellent, although we suspect the guide was new and a little nervous. Sadly service at the cafe was slow to the point we gave it a miss and went elsewhere. We would have loved a tour of the hatchery but it wasn't available.

What a great place to visit, learn and enjoy! Beautiful modern Tourist Information Centre as well as the Barra Indoor Hatchery.
I spent an hour plus going through the free area Discovery Centre displays, which give a lot of information on the centre and Karumba. The Tip to Tail behind the scenes tour through the hatchery, followed by the hand feeding of the “retired” female breeders was so informative and a highlight of my time in Karumba. I was so fortunate to visit an hour after a spawning and witness the early stage developments of the ‘hatchlings’.
Importantly the tours are important to supplement the funding of the hatchery to restock the region! Please join one- it’s great value for a great cause!

Great place, tour was fantastic and a must do (barra feeding is quite an experience). We did the one hour fishing (catch/release) session, caught three good sized barras! If you are ever visiting Karumba, this place is a must do.

Great free educational experience. Plenty of reading to do so maybe a little boring for little kids although there are some fun hands on areas that the kids will enjoy.

If you are in Karumba you should visit Les Wilson Barramundi, it is a great place to visit, it has Tours plus a free area with lots of information about the town and the barramandi, lovely staff, especially Bianca who was wonderful, she spoiled and played with our 20 month old baby Oli. She also gave us a lot of information about the fish and if that wasn't enough she let our little one feed the fish.
Oli for a new aunty :)
What a great great time thank you very much!!
