This is some of the best Thai food we have ever had. My partner and I chose this place based on a google review and were not disappointed. It is tucked away upstairs inside a building and a little challenging to find however definitely worth it. The restaurant has a small amount of seating inside and then more outside the restaurant however still undercover. We arrived without a booking on a Sunday evening and were warmly greeted and offered a table outside. We ordered the roti with peanut sauce to share as an entree. It was fresh and very hot and the peanut sauce was amazing. For mains we shared a chicken panang curry and Lui Suan with chicken (a stir fry with a special sauce) and then some steamed rice. Both dishes indicated they had mild spice and they did not disappoint. Both meals were beautifully presented, steaming hot and simply delicious. They have a lamb Massaman curry on the menu which we would have loved to try however it takes 25 minutes to prepare. If you love Thai food you will love this restaurant.

This Thai restaurant is the best I had eaten in the whole Tasmania.
We had the green curry with chicken, flavourful and good short chili tingle.
The pork stir fry with cashew nut was NOT sweet like other Thai restaurant and generous with the ingredients.
Pad see ew the thicker flat noodle of pad thai, is not overly sweet, great char flavour.

Great food, great location and lovely staff. Don’t be fooled by the location of this restaurant situated on the first floor of an old building in the middle of Salamanca Place. Even if the restaurant’s presentation doesn’t look very appealing the food at this place is very appetising. The food serving is a little too small (price ratio wise).

Delicious food at very reasonable prices. If you're not used to hot food, make sure you ask either for no spice or very little. My mum asked for hers to be less spicy and still found it too spicy, but the waiter was very kind and offered to re-make her meal for free. Good serving sizes, great service!

Food was delicious. We did the entree platter? (I think). & some som tums, a few stir fried dishes. Will definitely go back again.
2nd visit, we did the chicken skewers, curry puff, Tom kha veg soup, seafood pad Thai, garlic pepper pork and the seafood green. Absolutely delicious. I do think that the portions for the entrees are a bit small.

This is my first time visit Suwan Thai, I’m indeed impressed to find this high quality Thai in Tassie.
Im a huge fan of pad Thai, had it all the time when I was in Bangkok. The pad Thai of suwan Thai is the first one I have had on this island so far really close to what I had in Thailand.
We love the Tom Yam soup too, we cannot stop from drinking that, their chefs are definitely good at seasoning and know well about Thai cuisine.
Though the mango sticky rice is quite expensive, $15, the portion is satisfactory. I cannot emphasis enough how surprise am I when I find the sticky rice have the same taste as I had back to Thailand. However, the texture of the rice is a bit too runny, and the mango is too sour (I cannot blame the restaurant on this) in the standard of Thai dessert.
Overall, we had a wonderful Thai dinner today, will visit again for sure!

Two of us visited Suwan Thai Restaurant in Hobart on a Saturday evening. We ordered the coconut rice, massaman beef curry, and satay chicken and vegetables. The food was served quickly, and tasted freshly cooked and absolutely delicious. Thank you to Suwan Thai Restaurant!

We had a great meal here! I hadn't been for sometime. The atmosphere was quiet and enjoyable! The food was lovely and couldn't fault anything that we had. The Thai curry was got but had so many flavor profiles! Service was really nice and "we want to see you again" vibe certainly there!

We only wanted some soup to take out and ordered the Tom Yum and Tom Kha, and a portion of they chicken satay. They were all delicious!

They both had great flavor and not too spicy. We got the entree size (not the main) and it was a big enough potion.

Meals were delicious. Casual atmosphere with friendly staff. BYO from Drink Co bottle shop and bar on ground level before you head up to restaurant on first floor.

Staple weekend lunch meals. The most authentic Thai food you’ll find in Hobart. Spacious and great for big groups. Food is always fast and the portion size is always generous.

Delicious flavours, delightful and prompt service. Unusual location upstairs but worth the visit. Ordered the chicken fried rice and beef ginger stir fry and both were scrumptious.

We were immediately ushered in our table by friendly staff. We ordered chrysanthemum and Thai milk tea. It certainly was different but definitely refreshing. We tried something we've not had before back in Brisbane. We ordered Thai chicken skewers with tamarind sauce. We're also going to try the Combination Tom Yum. The atmosphere is great, and the service was awesome 👌. The chicken skewers with sticky rice were tasty and really were flavoursome. The aroma of the herbs added with Tom yum was aromatic and delicious. The servings were huge and really very filling. I lived this Thai restaurant. 👌

Lovely Thai shop owner and team. Authentic tomyum with delicious portobello mushrooms (a bit unusual but yum!). Red curry duck is also awesome.
