Otago Lagoon Reserve

We visited the Otago Lagoon Reserve in early October and were delighted to find a pair of black swans had built and were sitting on a large nest in the lagoon. We talked with a local resident who told us that the pair had been sitting on the nest for four weeks - so the eggs were expected to hatch soon. We also saw plenty of ducks, including two sets of ducklings paddling in the lagoon close to the reeds. This is a great location for a picnic, bird watching or fishing from the shores of the Derwent River.

Little local hidden gem. Well maintained short waking track, Good bird life and nice river/ mountain view.

There's hardly a walking track, only a little path that extends at most 100 m.
Nice view over the river but don't bother driving up here, there's better places.
Did see a tas devil, so also pay attention being here.
