Astor Private Hotel

I stayed at the Astor some years ago on my very first trip to Hobart.
It felt like home then and I am pleased to note that it hasn’t changed in the interim!
Tilde is a warm, wonderful host, as is Neil. Nothing is too much trouble.
Tilde’s style and panache is evident throughout the hotel and complements the venue’s decor perfectly.
Breakfast quickly morphed into heartfelt conversations with hitherto strangers in a lovely sunlit room.
Tilde and Neil’s local knowledge and attention to detail means that guests return to stay with them whenever they visit Hobart.
So far I haven’t encountered a single guest who hadn’t been before.
I highly recommend this home away from home! Thank you, Team, for welcoming me back.

We stayed here last week and loved it. Super clean with quality bedding. The hotel is charming, full of history and steps you back in time. Of course with that comes the old fashioned service of Tildy and Neil, who could not have been more pleasant and accommodating. The location is perfect for walking around the CBD, wharf and markets.

We had a lovely and comfortable stay in room 23, a twin room with share bathroom. The hotel is full of old world character and delightful eccentricities, like its owner Tildy. With a lack of electrical outlets and usb ports, this hotel is, as Tildy says, more for the traveller than the tourist. It was comfortable, clean, with great service (thanks also to Tildy's hubby, Neil), in a perfect walking location, and very well priced. Looking forward to returning!

I stayed at the Astor for 5 days and found it perfect. The location is central to all the major attractions. My room was clean, comfortable and spacious its old world charm a delight.

Neil and Tilda are very helpful hosts, who gave me great information on how to make the most of my stay.

Possibly the best place in hobart for steak. Rest of the menu is excellent too. Old world charm. White tablecloths, proper glassware and excellent service.

Loved it so much I extended my two-night stay into six nights. The two lounges are gorgeously decorated to match it's 100yr history, rooms are super clean. Tildy and Neil are such kind and caring people. It's a total gem.

I had a single room with shared bathroom and toilet, which was no worries as I never had to wait and no matter what time I used them they were totally clean.
There are also ensuites available.
Loved the cosy old fashioned Ambiance and friendly service.
Breakfast was awesome. Just what I needed to start the day before exploring centre of Hobart where it is situated. All bus services are in easy walking distance. Direct to airport is only a few hundred metres
I stayed here three times on this trip as I doing organised hikes. And could store my gear here between each hike. Can't recommend it enough for its location, ambience, hospitality, and great value

I absolutely LOVE staying at the Astor whilst visiting Hobart. The hotel feels like home, so very comfortable, neat and tidy, with a warm atmosphere. The owners are lovely and very accommodating. I have stayed in a different room each time I have booked, and it’s a pleasant surprise to what each room is like - very regal and old fashioned. The Astor is in a great location, very central, so it makes getting around the city a breeze - only a 5 minute walk to the waterfront and less than to the mall ✨

This is my favourite place to stay anywhere, mostly due to it's unique personality. I have come back here many times over the years and always feel very welcome. Every city in the world should have a hotel like this .... but they don't. This is not a dull franchise, it is run by real people. All manner of visitors can be found in the breakfast and lounge rooms. The whole atmosphere is very engaging, not a synthetic parody of 'the next big thing'.

I want to thank Neil and his staff for providing the most professional and generous customer service. From fresh flowers in the Lobby to the beautiful details and decorations that makes this Hotel a unique and warm experience. The delicious breakfast that is set up with so much care. Thank you for your kindness and the very friendly service that you provide.

What an absolute gem! We’ve been to the Astor grill situated on the same premises in the past and have been intrigued by the hotel. We were certainly not disappointed with our stay, much better than expected. The Hotel has an authentic charm, with an Edwardian feel about it. Just like something out of an Agatha Christy novel.
We stayed in an ensuite room but had the use of the stylish breakfast room and lounge just perfect for our 3 night stay!!

The best place to dine in Hobart hands down. The owner Rocky has trained his team to an excellent level. Clients are treated with care. The menu is excellent and presented beautifully. The details in the dining room and wonderful collection of Tom Samek artworks are just beautiful. We absolutely loved it and will be back next time we visit Tassie.

Astor Grill consistently provides fine dining with an extensive and affordable wine list. Food is always delicious and consistent. Rocky is the consummate host. A wonderful relaxing venue without intrusive music or staff

Absolutely beautiful, warm and charming. I booked into a room with ensuite for one night and wish I could stay longer! The room has to be the cleanest and most well maintained accommodation I've stayed at. The room was close to the road however was quieter than the more expensive chain hotel I stayed during last visit to Hobart.
Highly recommended The Astor and am already planning my next stay.

Would fully recommend the Astor Hotel, Tildy and Neil were brilliant hosts to group of 32 of us during a 4 day stay, the hotel exceeded our expectations and the hosts were more than accommodating to our needs of a large group. The hotel has great breakfast and lounge rooms where we all could get together and an easy walking distance to all the attractions Hobart has to offer. Overall great value accommodation and a very friendly place to stay. Will definitely go back there next time we are in Tassie.

If you appreciate old fashioned things and personalised hospitality then this is the hotel for you. Immaculately clean. When we went out, the bed was made and room freshened up and new towels provided. The breakfast room has lots of booths and the bread is thick and fresh (sour dough I think) with a toaster and all the condiments, tea, coffee, juice, fruit and cereals. We were a bit unsure what to expect as we had booked a shared bathroom but again, the bathrooms were immaculately clean and there was no waiting. There are quite a few bathrooms as well. I am sure this must be the cheapest and best kept secret accommodation in Hobart. This is our new go-to accommodation of choice. So quirky and inviting. Great job Tildy and Neil (Managers).

Lovely hotel with a great feel and decor. Tildy the manager was very friendly and gave us lots of tips and help to plan our stay in Hobart. Would greatly recommend to everyone. We used to shared bathroom facilities and it was not problem at all, very Clean and never bumped into someone getting out of the shower! Really great location, very close to mona ferry terminal and Salamanca markets.
