Walt's Food Market

Visiting a friend who took me to this non corporate quality foods store, and what a pleasant surprise this was! I got to try their pastries, sandwiches and meats for dinner and everything was just perfect. Staff did an amazing job preparing things to my liking, was very polite and professional and did a heck of a job with everything. Great shop with great foods and a top notch staff team makes this a perfect food store if you wanna get real good eats at a great price! Three cheers to the peeps who work there!

Started going there almost 40 years ago, and then stopped for a long time as it was not convenient. Now as I work on the area I started going back, and it hasn't changed, still the best. The best sandwiches at lunch time, there may be a line at the deli but it moves fast and it is worth it. Truly like going back in a time capsule.

My husband and I just had the prime rib sandwich and it was awesome. Plenty of meat and very flavorful with the horseradish mayo. Would definitely order again. Friendly staff too.

I've worked here at walt's for about a year as a dishwasher, and I'm still working there nowadays. Make sure to always leave good reviews for whoever loves this place.

I want to say THANK YOU!! to all the guys in the back, the butchers, for the year they had my weekly order of beef shanks waiting for me. All so beautifully trimmed even though they were for my dog. Ive come to find , here in LA , ur neighborhood, butcher/deli is a thing of the past. Walts is a gem , great premade REAL food and great butchers in the back .

Walt's is the perfect small town market with a terrific deli, the hot lunch sandwiches are to die for, fresh meats including terrific steaks, and very friendly staff. The grocery store of Katherine Hepburn lives on amid the larger competition, and a great place to shop.

Great place for a sandwich. They have the best meats around. Awesome holiday specials for your parties or just yourself.

I've worked in the Old Saybrook area for a few years and have become somewhat of a regular around lunch time. If you want quality sourced/local products in the area, then you go to Walt's. I've never been disappointed with a sandwich, and I always go for the specials! The staff are great people and aren't interested in flattery customer service, which I've really grown to appreciate in my line of work. They keep the community coming back by consistently providing a quality product.

I had their prime rib sandwich, chicken cutlet, roast beef and a bunch of muffins and other goodies. One of the best around. Also my girlfriend works the register and her smile brings you to a great place.

Come check this place out! Great food, but a little on the higher end for price, but you'll love every bite!

Those of us who live in town know why we love Walt's. The finest cuts, great soups, sanwiches and just what you need to put dinner together including items you just won't find at the "big box" place. But above all, Paul and the crew will serve you with a smile, some friendly banter and if you need it, a recommendation on how best to cook that roast they just cut and prepped for you. Walt's is unique.

Walt's is a throwback kind of place. Reminds me of what my Dad would call a "neighborhood market." A small grocery store with a great butcher shop and deli, Walt's has a little bit of everything. The have fixed prices on milk and Land o' Lakes american cheese making them much more affordable than the super grocery store across town. Their deli service is excellent, their sandwiches are delicious, and you always get a free pickle with your sandwich order.

The people at Walt's are very friendly and helpful. They also make a lot of the stuff in the back deli counter themselves and it's always very good.The sandwiches and soups are also great.

I’m from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and this is always my first stop when I’m in town. The pulled pork sandwich is top notch along with heir Potato salad, the veggie salad , the wings, ribs, and everything else that I have every had from Walt’s.
I insist you go find what you love at Walt’s!

Went in for a few quick grabs, but pleasantly found out this is a QUALITY MEAT establishment. Loved the smoked smell so much I had to try a couple of the sausages (i.e. Italian sausage & cajun andouille - freshly smoked) BOTH DELICIOUS! Saw the trophy from a chili competition... had to try. LOVED IT!
Friendly staff, loved the meats, and my dog loved the smoked bone! Thank you and I will see you again. SOON!

Disclaimer: This review is solely based upon the fact that they are the only 1 of 2 Salem ice cream distributors lol. I know nothing about Walt’s other products. I go there because they stock Salem Valley Farms Ice cream in quarts all year long. It’s not a huge selection, but they have some flavors.

Walt’s and Cliffs Quality Meats in Essex are THE only two places in CT you can get pre-scooped quarts of Salem Valley Farms Ice cream. OR get SVF ice cream in the winter when they are closed for t he season. Cliffs will add a flavor onto an order if you ask them to, they have a much larger selection but like Walt’s only order every so often.

My go-to place for all my meats. Friday prime rib sandwiches are great but get there early because they sold out.

Friendly and knowledgable staff. Owner Paul is always accommodating. Jim is an outstanding meat cutter.

Best sandwichs, cold cuts, meats in Connecticut. They obviously take pride, and deservedly so, in the quality of their food.

Their Reubens are to die for.
