Andronico's Community Markets

OK. I didn't originally Like this development, a chain store moving in on one of my favorites chains, (The old Andronico's) but I have to give credit where credit is due. The Deli in the store, is GREAT, and the people that work there, (Danny and the crew)are KILLING the deli sandwich game. I regularly get a LOADED turkey bacon avocado, and it is always out of this world.
So I am more than happy with this place and the workers there are always ultra cool. Now my go to for a serious sandwich. Picture here, is my new favorite, Toscano salami sandwich on sourdough, is the best sandwich in the neighborhood hands down. And that's because of the cool people that work at this deli.

Sam makes my sandwiches nearly every Wednesday. He is a delight! I see other customers also have positive interactions with him, as well as his coworkers, every time I'm there. He's a treasure!

Love their bakery! Kandi is the best, she was so kind to help me out, she made a fresh fruit tart that was AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS and held if for me. All her pastries are so fresh and delicious!

Higher end foods than Safeway, its parent company. Niman Ranch bacon and pork, Mary"s chicken, Snake River Farms wagyu beef. Nice selection of ethnic ingredients. Smallish store so don't expect you'll find everything.

Andronico's in Berkeley is a great place to shop for groceries. I love this place. Yes, it is more expensive; but the experience is also much better than at a place like Safeway (nearby) and Monterrey Market. Because Andronico's is generally more expensive than the other area grocery stores, it is also much less crowded than everywhere else. That alone is nearly worth the extra cost.

The staff here is always friendly, always fast and always efficient. From the higher ups to the baggers, everyone just seems happy to be there. Management must be treating the employees well and I like that and am willing to pay a little more because of it.

The store is not huge, but the selection is really good. They carry many products that I can't get at other grocery stores. There are many specialty items, but they also have all the staples. The deli makes good sandwiches and they have a lot of decent prepared foods for the nights that I don't feel like cooking.

The store is very clean, especially the meat department. That is really important to me. I hate to see a messy butcher area. Also the butchers here are very friendly and always smile when I am getting stuff. They have also helped me source items that they themselves did not have in stock, like a fresh Turkey in early October. The produce section is very nice and clean and well displayed as well.

One downside is, of course, the prices, but I understand that this is smaller business and they cannot get the same distribution pricing as the larger stores. They make up for it in customer experience.

The only other downside for me is that they don't make chicken tenders often enough. I wish they made them everyday. I love chicken tenders and their's are very good, especially compared to the dry and stale chicken tenders at the nearby Safeway. Andronico's, please make more chicken tenders! Or at least put up a sign that tells me when you are going to cook them, so I don't miss eating them.

All in all, this is a great store. If you care about the quality of your experience more than the price, this is the place to shop.

Excellent customer service. Store is located in great area. Plenty of street parking. Handicap accessible. Store is very clean and stocked well. Meat is fresh and local. Lots of vegan items and organic. Prices are on the high end. Thanks to the store team and butcher for answering my questions.

I am not a Safeway fan at all, but this is a sweet store. They have been great during Covid19. The store is clean and they limit the number of customers. I also like the clientele. Everyone makes ot work. A nice neighborhood store.

Best grocery store in North Berkeley. Lines are much shorter, staff is super friendly.

This also is one of my favorite places to shop. It is right across from my job location. Fine helpful staff from the manager to the cleaning team…

Better sandwich shop than some sub places. Fresh bread, better choices: foccacia, sour dough, ciabatta, etc. Lots of different spreads, oils, vinegar, etc. Tons of meat, cheese choices. Always fresh, hand-made. Fabulous staff!

I like good cooking inside this store, cause it have a cook - unusual in grocery store. Good choice of ice creams, and beers besi
de regular stuff, you are basically need.

I would like to give a big Thank You to the deli associate Michelle for always going above and beyond to help customers and to also get them through the long line that is constantly forming and no one really to help her out, Michelle gives great customer service.

Decades of great groceries and service

Short Version: Best of both worlds!

Longer Version: This is a Safeway that used to be an Andronico's. Therefore it is a little smaller than a traditional Safeway, but not by much. They also have all the best things about Andronico's like the Adult Brownie, hot food bar, and their rotisserie chickens are a little juicier!

The only real con is their pastry section is a little more limited. They have a bunch of the great cookies and cakes from Andronico's, but the actual Safeway pastries are limited. They do have the Brookie though. (Brownie on bottom, chocolate chip cookie on top -flipping delicious!)

They have the selection and prices of Safeway, but keep the boutique community vibe.

Great! They were extremely helpful. I try to go there when I'm nearby. Love the deli tho I was to too late to have a sandwich made up.

Good produce. Great beverage variety. Wide range of quality groceries. Hidden surprises worth checking in discount corner.

Love this place! They have everything and it's the last grocery store in the bay area who actually helps you bag your groceries!!!

This is the high end Safeway.It has items that the tegular Safeway does not have I found an organic unsweeted jam that I used to get in Andronico's. I could not find that jam elsewhere. It comes from Italy.

I Merchandise the store every Saturday, it is a great place to shop in Berkeley the people are really nice. They have a great selection of food and also a great breakfast and food bar
