Toadvine Books

Have you ever blacked out in a bookstore and walked out with 14 books? I love this bookstore so much, I had to cut myself off and leave before I had a chance to look at all the shelves. My mom didn't love the chaos of piles of books everywhere, but that's one of the reasons I loved it so much. The store is bursting with books, piles on top of shelves, piles on the floor in front of shelves, massive shelves filled with books. I loved it so much. Also, how could you not love their name? I had a great time and will definitely be back!

Great selection of used, new and collector item books. I found a copy of this classic, the first novel written by Thomas Harris, the notable author of the Hannibal Lecter stories. Toadvine has a variety of fiction and nonfiction, mysteries, pulp style paperbacks, graphic novels, and more.

Prices are pretty standard for the Detroit area as far as used books go, but this store has one of the most phenomenal selections of Sci Fi/Fantasy/Horror novels I've ever seen in a used bookstore. Many copies of the big names/titles in genre fiction and countless hidden gems, so chances are they'll have what you're looking for and all kinds of stuff you didn't know you needed. The staff is very friendly and helpful at looking for a specific title and/or giving recommendations.

My new favorite bookstore. It looks small, but this is definitely a case of "it's bigger on the inside!" Shelves are tall and every square inch is used. The book selection is excellent. There's no chaff or filler anywhere. I have found things at Toadvine that I have literally been seeking for years, not to mention a lot of amazing things I didn't know existed. There are some fascinating rare books in the cases up front, and in the back room is a great selection of YA / children's books and graphic novels. The graphic novel selection includes classics and important works by creators from around the world.
The staff is always helpful and welcoming and are great to talk to about books!
Prices are quite reasonable. Toadvine also buys books and gives fair trade value for things.
Perhaps best of all, Toadvine cares about, and supports, local authors. There are comics and novels by local writers, book editions from local publishers, and they also host author events in the back room. This place is a treasure, so go check it out!

Exciting to see such an array of books. Found this location online and after visiting a few we were very surprised. The search was over, Toadvine books had everthing and more my book guru was interested in.

Hands down the best bookshop I have ever been to. The curated selection was phenomenal. You'll have a hard time not finding what you're looking for when it comes to sci-fi and fantasy. A very welcoming atmosphere and staff. I didn't catch the name of the clerk when I stopped through, but he was incredibly helpful and happy to talk about titles my friend and I were looking for/ were interested in. Honestly such a great experience we came back the next day to buy more books! Thank you Toadvine! This is the kind of shop I would make a special trip from Cincinnati just to visit again.

This is the cutest bookstore. For such a small shop they have a TON of books, all at very reasonable prices. The employees and owner are wonderful. Very kind, and always willing to look something up for you.

Toadvine offers a great book selection and reasonable prices in a small space. There are many older books that are difficult to find online or electronically. The parking is convenient, close, and free. I love Paper Trail, but parking in Royal Oak is both inconvenient and difficult.

My kids and I love popping into Toadvine Books! There is a kid-friendly room at the back with so many children’s books (and toys which my kids love to play with while I browse!) and we left today with a stack of books! Staff was so friendly and helpful. I can’t wait to stop in again soon!

A wonderful store with great customer service and a huge selection of horror, fantasy, science fiction, and mystery books.

I hesitate to share with the world how spot-on this bookstore is, but my family loves this bookstore above all others. The front of the store is organized chaos filled with a constantly changing supply of clean, fair-price copies of hard-to-find and out-of-print gems. The back of the store is a children's room overflowing with hundreds of children's books that spark my kid's wonder every time we visit. Everything in the store is reasonably priced from the bargain area, new books on discount, rare collectibles cabinet, and all the shelves in between. The owner and his staff work hard to curate the changing inventory of new and used books. Because the store is on the smaller side, everything feels carefully selected to be worthwhile, with fewer of the filler pulp titles I find in many other bookstores. Although I like less competition for those hidden treasures, I can't help but support this local independent bookstore and share what an enjoyable experience this place will be for anyone who loves to find good books.

Very cozy place with bookshelves full of books. They have books for every style of reader, they even have a kids section which is very cool.

Absolutely amazing store with a fabulous collection of eclectic and rare finds. Super prices and friendly, helpful and lovely staff/owners:) will definitely be regulars when we are in town again.

Great local bookstore. Used, new, underground comix, graphic novels, kids books. Always something new to check out. Browseable AF.

Incredible bookstore with a large selection of old and rare paperbacks and hardcovers. Went there while I was in the area and I'm ended up going twice. All of the older books I ended up looking for were in very very good condition based on age, and everything was reasonably priced. Dude behind the counter was incredibly helpful as well.

The one thing we loved best about this particular book store was the way in which we were asked if we were looking for anything and the engagement in conversation in getting to know our interests.

We found several books and will be back since they are always getting more books delivered.

The name caught my eye when I was looking for used book stores in the area. Some of their stuff is newer, some of it's antique--whatever you're into, I'm sure you'll find it here. Nice and cozy building. The cashier working earlier was very polite, seemed to get on well with other customers, too. Excellent prices. Will be back!
