I went there on Wednesday and bought a Commander deck, but opened it and found nothing but a bunch of lands and mismatched sleeves. I went back ready to raise holy hell, but once I explained what happened, Luke and his crew set out to make it right! I had spent $60 initially, so I was able to get a new Commander deck, a dice set, and a pack of D&D MtG cards for store credit, plus Luke said he could contact me directly through Discord when they get that specific deck in! They set out to make a bad situation better and went above and beyond in making things right! Please give them your support!

This is the absolute best card shop in the DMV. Alex and May always take great care of me and I’m willing to drive an extra 15 minutes to go to them vice other shops. They have a burgeoning warhammer/kill team community, and there’s occasionally a game of D&D in the back. They are open late so even if you work late, you can still go play. 6/5, would recommend!

A nice friendly little store. It is basically all MTG with very little D&D and a little GDW. However, it provides a nice spot for my friend and me to play wargames once or twice a week.

I'm not a constant in-store gamer these days, but every time I enter Black Sun I'm met with nothing but kindness and acceptance. The store always has a solid selection of Magic the Gathering singles and it's incredibly clear that they care about the safety and comfort of their customers. I don't think there is a better place in town to go to if you want to just jump into a casual commander game, buy some product/singles, or just hang out and talk about the hobby with like-minded individuals. I am very very grateful this shop exists.

I recently (10 months ago) got back into MTG, the last time I played nobody played commander, just 60 card magic. My partner had never played magic before, ever. They treated both her and myself with a high level of respect and never came across with a hint of ego. you could tell they were genuinely excited to help us get into the wonderful world of the game and make sure we had everything we needed. There was no up-selling, just honest advice. well, the addiction has both of us in its grasp. we go and buy singles regularly, pick up new packs and have a good laugh and some fun discussions. the discount program rules and the playlists on the speakers are surprisingly good! Neat store. The staff was friendly and welcoming. I was mainly looking for Games Workshop stuff. They had a pretty small/basic display. I know they are just getting into it so hopefully they will find it is worth more investment since we only have Brainstorm Comics who has a wide selection. I was surprised they sell their stuff at GW prices with no FLGS discount. I hope they can build their GW community since that is lacking. I think this place is really known for their Magic cards and I don't really know much about that. Edited because I appreciate the feedback from the owner and appreciate his response.

Black Sun Games is my favorite place to go for Magic: the Gathering! The staff is super helpful with information, recommendations, and even getting things ordered in the shop on request, if they can. It seems like most of the folks who show up regularly play MtG's Commander format, which isn't my thing, but I still go by to play casual games with friends as much as I can. This is hands down my favorite card shop in the area! It has a great atmosphere, friendly staff, and a great community that frequents it. Very welcoming to new players such as myself, and tons of experienced and friendly players to help out when needed. Awesome place to pick up a commander game or draft some Friday night Magic!

I could not be happier with the service and interactions I have with the black suns team, and especially Luke. I have been buying singles from them online for year now. They have an amazing stock, there is very few times they didn’t have a card I needed, and they will constantly be on the lookout for it for you if they don’t. The service is also far more personal than TCG player, and I get to support a LGS, which I love . Luke is always on top of things, has great communication, and is willing to fix mistakes immediately the VERY few times I’ve had an issue. Overall, rest assured you can buy with confidence, and you will never meet a better bunch of people. Whether you are local, or across the country, there is no better place to get your hobby products.

Great place to check out if you are both new or experienced in magic the gathering, the first time I came here the staff was extremely friendly and helpful with ways to become the familiar with the game. Luke was extremely friendly and told me about the great community they are building and about different events they are hosting. Definitely recommend checking out if you are in the area or looking for a great place to play some games

This place has been my card shop of choice nearly three years. In that time the owner, Luke, has been nothing short of the absolute best source of cards, knowledge, and is friendly beyond measure.

Submitting a list of cards to him, or the amazing staff, for things to complete or start a new deck has an almost near 100% fulfill rate. I will continue to come back to Black Sun for all of my Magic needs.

They have an excellent selection of mtg singles and sealed product, the staff is chill, there are usually commander pods going, even on slower days, and they have a cool, dark, non-threatening paint scheme.

Best store for Magic: The Gathering in Frederick County! They are very accommodating, staff is very knowledgeable and will help you with any questions and deckbuilding you have. Owner is a very nice guy, and sometimes will play some games with you. FNM is a great time every time, and prereleases are nuts!

He has a way of making you feel welcome and seen, even in passing interactions - his sincerity just always comes through so clearly. A great guy to know!

Best MTG shop in town. Super helpful staff with a large focus on establishing a strong base of regulars. Frequent events as well as a great inventory and depth of knowledge to help you get what you need.

I love Black Sun Games, the owner and all the employees are incredibly friendly and knowledgable about all kinds of geeky hobbies. All the employees are FANTASTIC over the phone, online, or in-person.

As a novice MTG player and as a young woman, I'm always picky with the places I play games at because I want to feel safe and welcomed into the community. BSG has impressed me in every single way, from a fun online Discord channel to clean bathrooms to a great point system if you buy from them often. I drive 45 minutes to play at this store, and I've talked to many of their regulars and a good amount of them also drive 30+ minutes because BSG is worth every long drive.

Another reason why I prefer playing at BSG is because they are great at hosting events, and they have great turnout at their events so it's fun all around. My fiancé and I are considering moving back to our home state, and I know we won't be able to easily find a store to replace BSG.

Excellent fully stocked game store with an active clientele. From experienced to novice; you will find your people here! Lots of MTG supplies, packs, and individual cards. If you play MTG this is where you want to start!

It's a really nice hobby place though masks are required but understandable. The staff is friendly and very helpful. It's pretty easy to come in and find a mtg game and they have a great stock available.

Best magic store I've been to! Highly recommend for anyone who plays magic or is looking to get into magic. The staff are very nice and helpful. Great environment to just chill and play some magic.
