Galco's Old World Grocery

I first discovered Galco's Old World Market, now called "Soda Pop Stop" when I saw them
being interviewed on television by the late
Huell Howser. That was several years ago, so
on February 27,2024 I paid a visit there. It was
WONDERFUL. I was greeted by Erica, and she was very kind and professional. She recommended the Huckleberry flavor soda,
I bought several flavors including their famous
"Blockbuster" Italian Sub Sandwich. I've put the
soda's except one, ( it's on my Toy shelf) also
the Sub Sandwich will be eaten this Friday
evening. 😋 But that's not all, Galco's has a large selection of "Classic Candy" I bought some Zag Nut bars. But wait there's STILL
more. Galco's has a nice selection of Classic Toys. I also want to mention the courtesy I was given by Sandwich Counter person Andrew.
He's a nice kid. I plan on going back to Galco's

Visited today for lunch. Having the original Blockbuster. I wanted to say how great it was, but I have to say it was bitting into a memory. A memory of sandwiches my Nana would make us on Saturday's. I never really visited this place often but she would when it was actually a market. Maybe she copied them. Wow thank you Galco's. The Blockbuster is a great sandwich.

Saw this place on the Watcher YouTube channel and just had to visit as we were LA for a few days - it ended up being the highlight of our stay.

The store brought back so many memories from childhood - a warm nostalgic feeling upon seeing old toys and snacks.

The extensive selection of beverages is absolutely wonderful, and the option of making your own is an added bonus as someone whose favourite flavours are lavender, rose, and violet.

What a blast!

Galco is a wicked portal to the past. All the decor is themed with the 50s? Idk I’m not old. I don’t think it ever gets busy, but that gives you a lot of space to shop around. On the side, they have a good amount of candy but their main draw is their massive drink collection. They have a large soda collection of long lasting brands that you won’t be able to find anywhere else. Compared to rocket fizz, there’s less wacky drinks and more normal drinks that you don’t see in supermarkets. They also have alcohol and freshly made sandwiches, but they have very limited staff so you might have to wait.

I just love this place. It's fun to find new sodas and nostalgic candy.

This is definitely a neat place to visit. Very nostalgic to see soda brands that you don't see at big grocery stores. Also, they still have the original register from back in the day. If anyone remembers Alpha Beta grocery stores, then this will bring back some memories. Spiffy Cola, Black Cherry cola and Sioux City Sarsaparilla are among our favorites. The average price is about $1.99. They also sell beer from different countries. Try the Czech beers!

Always a fun trip! John carefully curates a store chock full of the most obscure and delicious beverages available.

Moxie? Got it. Red Ribbon? Got it. A dozen Trappist ales? Of course. Nehi and Faygo flavors for days.

Don’t try to lie to yourself, grab a cart on the way in- you’ll need it.

Soda? This is truly an amazing experience as there are so many to choose from! They have an amazing selection of candy as well. This is one place you really have to visit and see! There is nothing to compare the experience to since I know of nowhere that compares.

Great selection of soda, beer, wine, sake and sweets. You can make your own soda too!

Great selection of old and new pops for you to enjoy. There's even a way to make your own pop.

I've never seen so many types of soda in my life. Truly remarkable. It's like someone googled "soda" and got some everything, put it on a shelf, and sold it to the rest of us. So many unique flavors and things I've never seen before! There were also many old-timey candies and toys but those are less remarkable. The building is older and has a vibe to match the concept. Worth stopping in if you're in the neighborhood or are addicted to soda.

This place is so fun. 50’s rock n roll playing on the sound system, the craziest soda selection you’ve ever seen, lots of fun candies, old-times toys, craft beers, a sandwich counter, sake AND you can concoct your own sodas too! Could you ask for anything more?

Makes me fee like a kid again! First time in a soda store. Self restraint kept my from buying every kind of root beer they had. Also my gf wouldn't allow that lol. We did end up with two sodas. She picked out one and I got my make my very own! Like a child I had difficulty picking out my flavors but since it was October nearing Halloween I decided to make a caramel apple soda and boy was it delicious! Tasted just like a caramel apple and I had so much fun making it!

Saw this as a reel on IG so that's how I found out about this place, which I definitely recommend parents and children alike come visit this hidden gem!

Love this place! The South of the Border Turkey sandwich is so good! Love the old sodas and candies! I even got a Gumby and Pokey doll!

So many different flavored sodas can be found here. It is a really cool spot for a treat every now and then and the owner is always willing to talk to you about the unique flavors in house.

I'm so happy that some great things never change! I've bought sandwiches at Galcos since the late 1970's and I'm now in my 60's, and the only thing that's changed have been the people that make the sandwiches. Old timey sodas, exotic bottled drinks both hard and soft drinks...saw a certified vegan wine I will buy later...and chicken sticks!!! I love this place 4-EVER!

Special treasure in Highland Park. Largest collection of unique sodas on the planet, both world class and local boutique. You can also make your own custom soda in a bottle. Amazing.
Additionally, they have the largest collection of vintage candies and toys, incredible.
The owner is the nicest man you'll ever meet. He also procures various gourmet items in season from Italy and Europe. Perfect for gift shopping
