By the Pound

My bestie and I had heard about a great bulk food place out near Ann Arbor, so we dropped in to Buy the Pound, and we were not disappointed!

So many great herbs and spices you'd be hard pressed to find in other bulk stores. Black cardamom, Herbs de Province, and so much more! They even have a place where you can pick up empty jars and take them home for free!

The staff were helpful and great to talk to. A little witchy 🧹 like us too, which was all the better!

We will definitely be back!

Wonderful place to find all sorts of foodie things. Large selection of herbs and spices! Large selection of loose tea as well.

Spices you've never seen before,nuts, $80/LB teas, oil, 10 different types of chocolate,a candy store, varieties of sugar, 8+ rices,grains,pastas. This place isn't pretty and all sold by weight mostly but it has those hard to find spices that your recipe wants and you can buy as little as you want. If they like to cook bring them here

I'm so disappointed it took me so long to find By the Pound. The medicinal grade herb selection alone is worth a visit and the prices are very reasonable. If you're a baker, visit this place. If you're a tea/coffee connoisseur, visit this place. If you like your pantry stocked with a variety of whole grains and legumes, visit this place. If there's a spice you can't find, visit this place. If you're an herbalist, visit this place. If you want to reduce your food packaging waste, visit this place. Long story short, visit this place!

Overall this is a great healthy food staple store for bulk items. It's my primary source of poppy seeds, whole dry milk and specialty flours. They have a lot of candy and baking chocolate. The store is managed as usual for his previous owner, so expect classical music. I might recommend signing up for the newsletter from the store. Some sales are a nice bonus. This business has had many improvements during the last few years. The store space is bigger and browsing is more comfortable. It seems they can carry more variety, such as milk products. Parking is ample and easily accessible.

EXCEPTIONAL people, products, shopping experience! So grateful for this local gem. They offer just the right ingredients in just the right quantities at a fair price. And in case that’s not enough, what truly distinguishes BTP is the dedicated staff. Their customer service is unsurpassed - these folks set the bar! Immense gratitude and appreciation for all that’s offered here - a community treasure!

Always had good experiences here. Staff is super helpful whenever I have questions. Prices are fair, and there is always a good selection of nuts, flours, coffees, etc. I signed up for their emails and they don’t send a bunch of spam, just occasional info on products and sales (yay for my inbox). I like that they let you use your own containers, too. Also, the small kitchen utensils (spatula, funnels) I purchased here are good quality and have ended up coming in super handy in my kitchen. I am a very happy customer and gladly support their business.

One of my favorite shops in all of Ann Arbor. I visit every other week to stock up on pantry essentials. I always buy my coffee, spices, oats, flours, falafel mix, nuts, and honey from here because I can bring my own jars or containers. They also have a small selection of canned goods and refrigerated items. If you’re looking to ban single use plastic from your life, this is a great option.

great variety of goods sold by the pound, as the name would suggest. fair prices, and the smell is just mesmerizing. highly recommend.

We love by the pound! The coffee and tea selection are amazing in and of themselves but add in candy, spices, home pantry staples and excellent customer service and you have yourself an experience that you simply cannot find elsewhere. Yes, shopping here is an experience and as someone who dreads shopping of all types, I'm always up to visit BTP!

Oh my gosh, I think this is my new favorite place to shop! They have a variety of teas, dried fruits, nuts, grains, candy, spices, etc! You can bring your own containers or use the bags they have their. Plus everything is so affordable. I can't wait to make another trip there.

I like the fact everything is bulk especially their tea's and spices I can get exactly how much I want it's fresh

This is my favorite store in Ann Arbor. I get all of my tea here, as well as my chocolate and herbs.

They also have grains, flours, and a variety of dry goods and specialties from around the world.

The items are very fairly priced and the gentleman who served me at the register was entirely friendly and caring. Thank you for this :) the store also offers, in addition to bulk dry goods, oils, molasses, and candies, packaged imported items like tahini and European chocolate.

We’ve been shopping here for years. The staff is wonderful and the prices and selection is outstanding.

Great place to bring your own containers and reduce waste! Just don't forget your containers and bags! But they do have some available if you do forget or don't have any.
