Encinitas Fish Shop

The sides were good but the main event was the fish (obviously) and their seasoning. I'd recommend the tacos! Cool atmosphere with outdoor tables and big open windows/doors to make the inside feel a bit like outside too.

Our second time here in the last several years when in Encinitas, and it's still a great place for our seafood fix! Order at the counter and sit down for them to bring out your food order. This time, we tried the surf and turf tacos, fish and chips, and a dozen oysters. The food was so fresh and delicious as was our previous experience. Patio seating is pleasant for dinner and inside has seating and one side is a bar area with plenty of TVs to catch a game. Service is always courteous and friendly. I appreciated the manager letting us know about the local beers available as well as the options for wine offerings. There can be a line during peak hours, but be patient since those fish tacos and beer are worth it. See you at the Fish Shop on our next trip.

Swordfish plate (lemon butter) with seasonal veggies and a salad (citrus vinaigrette) - amazing, salad could have had less capers.

Coconut shrimp - not the best I’ve had, but good enough.

Mahi Mahi ceviche - AMAZING

As for atmosphere, it could have been better. I left with sticky shoes because something had been spilled on the ground and never cleaned. The bathroom was also awful.

I asked the bar tender if he could turn on the space heater, he said yes and then never did.

Good mix of options on the menu. Some fresh, some grilled, some fried etc. Loved the seating options (inside, covered patio, open patio, bar) and the service was top notch in my visit.

Came highly recommended by a friend who grew up out in the area, and it did not disappoint one bit. Love all the options that you can create your own experience best catered to your tastes.

Make sure you buy a shaker of their seasoning to go, you'll put it on everything (we do!)

As you walk into the Fish Shop some fish is exposed for you to see.

We all ordered different things. We all loved it except my mom. She was looking forward to eating fresh fish. The fish stew was way too spicy for her and for me, but it didn't say so anywhere. We ended up sharing some food with my mom because it is rare that she says she can't eat something.

I had the sea bass, My side dishes came, but my sea bass they forgot to add it but they brought it ourlt pretty quickly. It was cooked perfectly. My daughter had 2 different tacos with the lobster and scallops made to perfection (she won't stop talking about how good they were). My husband isn't a fish person so he went with fish and chips. My brother-in-law's family had another variety and they were kind enough to let us taste their dishes.

My wife and I got lunch here while visiting from out of town. We had the yellowtail with fish shop seasoning and shrimp. The fish was delicious and perfectly flaky. Both seasonings had a kick.

Highly recommend eating here.

There are lots of options to choose from. Fresh fish display as soon as you walk in.

We had the poke, coconut shrimp, fish tacos (of course), blackened fish, and clam chowder.

Star of the show was the operations. Everyone was so nice, patient, and friendly, considering the masses.

Wish there was one closer to my house....in Las Vegas.

Best fish and chips I've had in a while. The portion was big enough for two people. The batter was nice and crispy, not too thin, not too thick. Tartar sauce was very savory and paired well with the fish. My family stopped in on a rainy day and everyone was still very nice to us. Can't wait to go back.

Went for my lunch so i was limited on time. It was a bit of wait in the line but the food was served in a timely manner. The food was amazing great sandwiches. The atmosphere is great also you have options to sit out in the open or dine inside. Great service.

Excellent fish tacos and beer. The line is out the door, but moves quickly.

The food is served up fresh and hot, and the spices are just right.

Get here before or after the lunch rush if you are in a hurry.

Revisited: I really wish I didn't have to travel all of the way to CA to eat here! Had the sea bass with Chipotle seasoning on a salad and it just melted in my mouth. Added a cup of clam chowder and was simply in heaven!
This place has a great atmosphere for casual, outdoor dining. It took a while to decide what to order because they have so many good choices! I had the red snapper with the fish seasoning on a salad. The fish seasoning was a little saltier than I preferred. I personally would try one of their other seasonings next time. My hubby got the fish and chips which were awesome. My son got some fish tacos which were also very tasty. Wait staff were friendly and helpful. I would definitely dine here again!

Our favorite fish taco in the last few years! Corn tortillas are really good and a great size. Great for gluten free!

The blackened red snapper was amazing!
Fresh, flavorful and the portion was perfect.
Fish taco was crunchy with a nice size piece of fish and also grilled to perfection.
Onion rings were good, not great and the rice was just ok.
The clam chowder bread bowl was delicious and creamy and my wife and I both loved the fresh bread it was served in.
Great draft beer selection with indoor/outdoor seating.
We will eat here every time we are in the area.

There’s something special (good) about this fish shop.. compared to most places around this area they offer a wide variety of menu options, ensure the food is prepared with care, and attracts a pretty cool crowd. Come in, select your fish, select a glaze, an appetizer or two, a beverage and relax while they prepare it fresh. The teriyaki salmon was great, paired with crispy calamari, and a side of broccoli made for a very pleasant afternoon with friends.

Love this local spots and the experience. You get to choose the way you want to cook then pair it with your favorite fish or seafood. Lots of sauce and drinks/beer options as well. The space is very local, rustic but definitely a vibe. Everything tastes fresh and delicious, great place for a quick bite in between the bike rides or bring the family and friends over.

Fresh fish from the locals were included in the specials like halibut today. Smoked salmon belly taco was a new favorite even though this is my first time.

Got the diablo fish tacos 🌮, they were decent, fresh fish. Bowl of clam chowder, thickness and hearty, needed a little salt and pepper. Salmon sandwich 🥪 was a good size. Onion rings were big and good as well.

🐟 everything is great here not only the fish. The bread making up the chowder bowl was fresh and chewy. The coconut shrimp and sweet chili sauce was delicious. The salmon was excellently cooked and the onion rings were fantastic. Very satisfied with this meal
