I have a bachelors in culinary arts.
Steak and cheese is my favorite sandwich of all time.
I ordered it here and can tell you I can name 3 of other places where a steak and cheese can come even remotely close to this. Real seasoned chunks of shredded roast or chuck steak, fresh bread, perfectly toasted with melted cheese on sourdough. I could slowly eat this over an hour and not get sick of that experience. I spaced out for 5 whole minutes after eating it. It was nothing short of spectacular. $11 bucks?!?!! This was beyond evil how tasty this was. I wish I lived closer. I put this down in my special list. God help me you gotta try this.

Best grilled cheese ever. My friend and I stopped in for a quick bite after a stroll on the Cliff Walk. We had Fido was us, so we were looking for a dog friendly spot on this unseasonably warm February Saturday. We both ordered the signature grilled cheese. It was, quite simply, perfect. The coffee was hot and freshly brewed. We sat outside at one of the two bistro tables.There was a water bowl for dogs passing by. I took off one star for atmosphere only because I had to weave through the kitchen to use the facilities. However, I was grateful they were available. I would recommend this spot for a quick breakfast or lunch.

Had a great breakfast here over the weekend! No wait! We just walked in and were promptly greeted. Coffee arrived quickly as well as our meals. I got the peach and brie French toast, it was really good and not overly sweet. The peaches were fresh and tasted great. Will definitely go back.

the BEST hole-in-the-wall spot i’ve been to! i can tell the locals love this place even though ive only been here a few times. Im not from this place but im super glad i tried this kitchen out. their tomato bisque is divine and the grilled cheeses are out of this WORLD!! the owner is super sweet and kind, we had lovely small talk :) highly recommend this place, singing their praises is not enough!

Small place, but big menu as far as the kinds of grilled cheese options to choose from. This place hit the spot for breakfast! Hearty and warm. I swear the English muffins out here are amazing so soft and tasty. They say its the water that makes NY bagels so good, so that must be the same for Newport English muffins. Never had one as good as out here. I'm shocked they weren't even busier when we were there.

Sorry for the bad photos but these grilled sandwiches are the best. EVERYTHING, including the corned beef is made from scratch. Also, without a doubt one of the most affordable eateries in Newport! Great Quality, Great Pricing!

This is NOT fast food, but it is really GOOD food!

Have you ever loved a place so much that you fear sharing its amazingly delicious secret will ruin what makes it so special? That’s how I feel about this place! After living here a year and trying all the Newport and Middletown breakfast spots I can say - this is my most favorite of them all!

Let’s start with what makes breakfast such a delight to wake up to — the coffee!! And here the brew is extremely good. Coming from living in Italy I’m quite picky about a drip coffee and appreciate the bold flavors of this one that also doesn’t hurt my stomach after multiple cups. Served in a mug, hot and at the ready. It’s delicious.

What would a good cup of coffee be if it weren’t served with a smile and welcoming patience for me to savor? Forgetful. But not here! Unlike its competitors nearby this establishment will respect
Your table whether you are one or 5- dining on coffee or the whole menu! I love that they don’t rush me, that I can take in the sidewalk entertainment and take my time figuring out what I want, and when it’s served and done I’m not rushed out but instead offered more coffee!

Eventually a hungry tummy needs to be satiated and the chef here knows how to feed morning cravings like no other place in town! Flavorful breakfast sandwiches with creative offerings like spicy chicken in addition to the usual breakfast meats keep you wanting to come back. Luscious French toast with cheesecake, strawberry options galore make you salivate and debate with family which tempting item you’ll finally choose. What’s got to be highlighted are the happy, warm and upbeat attention that the staff provide. I never feel a bother, and in the brief time visiting already feel local to this morning spot.

So there it is - finally an admission to the breakfast place that’s stolen my heart in Newport and surrounding areas. I can’t wait to bring my mom here and all our friends. For now - I’ll savor the small sized establishment and it’s low key vibe because no doubt the best things are often the most discovered, savored and frequented. I just hope for my sake I can always be welcome and not rushed - because as a local that’s what one really needs in a town that’s infiltrated with tourists! So far this place seems to know who’s here for the long haul and they’re servicing it right to locals and tourists!

I was super happy with the service and the great food.

Good for quick breakfast with big menu options. Unfortunately they don’t have any omelets options but thats fine.

Will visit again when we are in the town.

Spectacular value, great size portions. Downtown hidden gem that is right out on the open across the Middle school. Casual dining yep better than any "fine Dining restaurant" I have yet to experience on the island.

An a long time in the area. It's very simply designed and not flashy yet very comfortable&clean. I have done both Dine in
and take out. I recommend whatever is most convenient for you. You can park in the back of this place with ample parking In the Martin Wheaten boulevard side
or find a spot on the street.

Love the sandwiches here, especially when I’m in the mood for a “comfort food” type of lunch. They’re also always super nice and friendly, even when I’m just strolling by with my dog or kid.

Great place for breakfast! The gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches were amazing, and the spud nuggets are a nice side dish to dip with ketchup. I added a bit of salt for taste. They were nice and crispy! Also, the tomato bisque was very delicious, better than most that I’ve had. Would recommend for any staying in Newport to stop by and try their grilled cheese!

Our go-to when we visit Newport each year. Pictured is the chicken & waffles sandwich, which, warning: is super sweet, it was too rich for me that day, but ugh they did a great job. Lovely staff, and seems loved by locals as well as tourists!

Awesome small place that actually cares about the food and experience. Find that rare in 2024. All around great place. Good food down to the toast. Service was A1. Definitely stands out from the normal. Go here you will enjoy it.

My wife and I just got lucky finding this litte gem of a place were you can get delicious Salads, Sandwiches and out of this world Soup. I can not tell you how delicious their Sandwiches and Soups are, very filling, reasonably priced, and the variety is endless. All I can say is, if you're ever in downtown Newport, stop by and give it a try. Highly recommended☆☆☆☆☆

Dear Steff and the team at Scratch Kitchen. Every single member of the team is pretty awesome and the food. Wow!
I was introduced to Scratch Kitchen by Kevin at Innovate Newport as I needed to hire a catering vendor to support a conference. The entire process of working with Steff and Scratch was a partnership and nothing was too much to ask.
On the day of the conference, the feedback from my delegates was overwhelmingly wonderful and everyone applauded the menu.
Scratch Kitchen and Catering is a fantastic gem of Newport and I can’t wait to come back. PS: The Reubens Sandwich is off the scale 😻😻

Menu is huge, Food was perfect and tasty. Chili dog grilled cheese and parmesean broccoli soup. The best part was the service and staff, friendly is an understatement.

Wowzers! I had “the Lorraine” sourdough sandwich and it was incredible! I couldn’t finish but I def took it to go. My hubby had the chicken and waffles sandwich and devoured it. The corn beef hash is tasty as well. Our server was very kind and accommodating. They allowed us to eat outside with our pups and even brought them fresh water. It was a great breakfast and we look forward to our next visit!

Again sorry for the late review. I was hear about a week ago. Let's start with the restaurant is small and quaint. But that always seems to be where some of the best food is. The selection of grilled cheese is amazing and is paired with anything you can imagine. The sandwich and soup special is amazing. All the soups are definitely worth trying. The cookies are delicious. If you are a fan of good food and grilled cheese this is a must stop. If you love soup again a must stop. Hell even just for a cookie must stop. Scratch kitchen is what it implies made from scratch. Every grilled cheese is a homemade idea brought to life. Every soup made from scratch. This was a great experience. And I will definitely be back.

Wow. Tiny little place but EXCELLENT food. I had The Lorraine grilled cheese/fritatta with spud nuggets and my husband had The Porker breakfast burrito & corned beef hash. Real corned beef chopped up, not the canned stuff. Great coffee, super fast & friendly service.

Went there Sunday morning for the first time and it was great, food came out fast and it was tasty I’ll be back in July during my summer vacation.
