The view along the Cliff Walk is spectacular! My husband and I, 68-69years old, had no difficulty with the southern portion from The Breakers to Bailey's Beach. There were a few areas of walking on top of large boulders and across mid sized rocks, but they are doable if you have good balance.

This lower portion takes more energy but has less foot traffic and is peaceful and quiet.

We did the upper portion from 40 steps to Easton's Beach also, a couple days later. It has great views, too, and the walkway is paved the entire way.

I did the cliff walk on my first day in Newport. The entrance starts on Memorial Boulevard and ends on Bellevue. The whole walk one way can take up to 2-1/2 to 3 hours, depending on your pace and how well you can walk on the more rocky areas. When you start the hike, the area is mostly paved, which makes it an easy stroll, but then the area gets a bit rocky, and if you are a novice when it comes to these kind of walks, then it gets a bit scary. You get beautiful views of the water and the surrounding areas, including major points of interest. If going on a hotter day, then I recommend bringing a bottle of water, but I didn't notice any restrooms. Also, wear comfortable sneakers. Do not wear anything with a heal as you can end up stuck or trip easily. I really enjoyed doing this hike, and I recommend anyone who loves doing outdoorsy things like this to definitely give it a try.

Incredible experience walking along the entire path. The QR codes along the way provide a neat little history about the properties and grounds. The entire area is pretty well manicured and clean. Terrain varies from paved, to gravel, to rocky at times. Definitely wear comfortable hiking/walking shoes. Views are amazing the whole walk. Plan on at least an hour to complete the trail one way.

What a unique and beautiful place to walk. It's wonderful that the city has maintained and kept this open for centuries now. I really enjoyed spending some time walking on it even as the terrain switches to the more difficult area. Worth the time to explore to catch some views of the ocean and the mansions in the area.

Our visit to the Cliff Walk during our short trip to Newport, Rhode Island, was a true gem. Though relatively short, spanning about 2 miles round trip, it gifted us with spectacular ocean views and the invigorating scent of the sea that truly refreshed the soul. During our walk, we stumbled upon Salve Regina University, established in 1934 by the Sisters of Mercy, adding a touch of historical charm to our journey. While parts of the trail were rocky and provided a bit of a challenge to some of the friends, the rest was pleasantly paved, making it accessible to a wide range of visitors. Overall, the Cliff Walk proved to be one of the highlights of our visit to the Newport Beach area, offering a wonderful blend of natural beauty and historical intrigue. It was indeed an enjoyable stroll.

The view is absolutely beautiful in sunny days! Waves, coastlines, seagulls, …, the nature comes so vividly alive here.

Be sure to wear a pair of comfortable shoes since there are some pretty rough spots (on the rocks). Also, if coming at a windy day, it’s better to bring a jacket since the wind at some spot could be really strong even in sunny days.

All in all, absolutely enjoyable!

Super cool trail and experience. We visited the Cliff walk on a chilly, breezy day. It was nice because the walk was very quiet due to the weather conditions. We started at the southwest end of the trail, which is more difficult as some of the pathways are boulders near the water. Overall great trail where you can see spectacular views of the water and the mansions along the way are very historic. Highly recommend! One of the coolest walks we’ve been on.

The first part of the cliff walk is very easy to do. Once you go past the restroom area, it is very difficult in places. Over large rocks marked only by glass inserts. We did the whole walk but it was pretty scary. Pay attention to the signs. It very clearly shows the yellow warning and the red difficult areas.

Great place to walk and see gorgeous views of the huge mansions and the ocean. Some hills but not bad unless handicapped. Gets more challenging if you take the stairs up by the halfway point, more rocky, but worthy it going through the tunnels

Very nice hike, bring sun screen since there is not a lot of shade. You have to climb rocks on some sections, but it's mostly paved. During the peak season there is a free shuttle that brings you back to Newport and other attractions in the area.

We walked from the beach to marker #8. Only obstacle we ran into was the detour due to portion of the walking path collapsing due to land slide of cliff erosion. Had to walk about 10 mins out of the way to get back on the path. The path was well kept and wide enough for the amount of people that were traveling on it . Would like to go further on the cliff walk next time. Starting at mile marker #8 it entails you to walk across rocks and definitely need sneakers for this.

Great place to come for a nice walk. The sights are beautiful, the breeze from the bay is nice, even on a humid day. If you're not one for a lot of people, go early! It starts getting busy on the walkways around 10am We got there about 8:30am on a Sunday, and there were minimal people until around 9:30 / 10am. The mansions are incredible to see. You can stop at the cafe at the beginning or end of the cliff walk, depending on where you start. You'll need to pay for parking during the peak season, which is May through October. The walk is roughly 3.5 miles one way and about 2/3 of the walk is in easy walking condition, about 1/3 is a little rougher conditions. Good shoes should be worn. The entire walk to the end and back will take around 2 and a half hours or so.

You absolutely need to do the Clif Walk while you're in Newport. You can make this walk as easy or as Moderate as you'd like. You can make this walk the full 3.8 or you can get off on multiple spots. Or you can go out and back. We did point to point. There is a washed out section with a one block detour.

Really nice paved trail, for the portion I did. Think I walked to about 8 on the map. Park at Memorial Blvd or Narragansett Ave. Pay-by-plate option, put in your tag number, money, and get a printed ticket.

What a beautiful walk! On a sunny day you can see right across the ocean and the mansions are incredible. There are lots of boards along the way to tell you what you’re looking at but even if you aren’t interested in the history it’s a beautiful place. There is free parking at The Breakers even if you don’t go in the house. There are no eateries along the walk though so be sure to take drinks and snacks with you. There are some toilets along the way but not many.

Being a person with some mobility problems, I enjoyed the walk. The trail has easy to hard parts to it. The easy to moderate portion was a good workout for me. My wife and friend tried a little of the hard adventure of the trail but turned around to head back to where we started at 40 Steps. From 40 steps we headed to Easton Beach for lunch at the Snack Bar. Lunch was amazing. My friend had to run back to the car at 40 steps to pick me up at the beach because I was finished and we were against the clock of our 3 hour parking.

This is the most beautiful walk and place in general ive ever been to on the east coast. First 1/3 of the walk is easy and gorgeous itself but the rest gets kinda tough so definitely wouldn't bring young kids. Wear sneakers and expect to get wet

Absolutely beautiful. Areas will be difficult for some to walk as there are a few spots which are unpaved and require a bit of walking over rocks. Otherwise, it's a great walk with some wonderful views.

This was one of the most amazing trail I have ever gone to. Literally, every 1 minute walk, we encounter a new magnificent view of the ocean, rocks on the way, places, etc. there was a beach less than 5 minutes walk from the trail.
We took the walk at 7:00 pm and we reached the end at about 9:00 pm. Yes, it will take more time if you stay longer to take photos or watch the ocean.
After about half an hour walk, we reached a restroom. There was water tap as well.
We saw people fishing on the way down to the trail.
If you want to be surprised for each scene, I highly recommend this place. You can find the proof from my photos.
