Hays Drug Store

Like family.

I’ve shopped in Hay’s Drug since I was old enough to and frequented it with my parents before that. The druggists have always been friendly, courteous, and extremely helpful!

I was astonished today when my grandson and I were met rudely by the woman clerk (Jill?) who has been working there for years YELLING at us from more than half way back in the store that we couldn’t be in there without a mask and to “get out!”

There wasn’t anyone else in the store and the clerk was still 30’ or more from us.

I tried to explain that I’d forgotten my mask and asked if they had some. She remained rude, very discourteous, giving me a terse “no” and YELLING to get out over and over.

(Really? A drug store doesn’t have masks either to buy or complimentary when even Paonia Supply does?)

My 16 yr old grandson had a handkerchief so I said I’d go outside and give him the money to pay for the merchandise I’d picked up prior to the clerk’s belated emergence from out of sight far back in the store.

I told her, in a normal conversational tone and volume that she just needed to BE NICE as I retreated to the front door, tossing the items I wanted to buy on the checkout counter as I passed it.

My grandson had pulled his kerchief up right after the clerk started yelling at us. He stopped at the counter as I went on outside to pay for the merchandise. The clerk finally came up to the counter where she told him that he wasn’t buying the items and to GET OUT!

SAD! AFTER 69 YEARS OF BEING A CUSTOMER, I WON’T BE RETURNING TO HAY’S DRUG!

Terribly overpriced, service has been awful in the past, items offered are not relevant or over what other reasonable places in town charge.
