The Café at The Chanler

We had a fantastic evening at the cafe. We sat outside, which I highly recommend if they have space. The food was great and very well paced. Note that this is a longer service dinner on purpose; they’ll tell you their mains take about 45 minutes to come out. We were there for 2 full hours with appetizers, mains, and desserts and we loved every minute of it.

The service really made the difference. They escorted me to the restroom instead of just explaining were it was when I looked lost, always made sure our napkins were refolded when we got up, and were very helpful with recommendations and knowing the menu in detail. We’ll be back!

My wife and I have traveled from Boston to visit The Café at The Chanler to celebrate our 9th Anniversary with a romantic dinner. When we enquired about the dish we'd selected, we learned that the salmon was not cooked the way we like it. That was disappointing, 'cause we had our minds set on having salmon for dinner. In addition, as we do not eat red meat, shellfish, or poultry, there was no other options on the menu. When we told our server, Shannon, we were leaving, she politely apologized, and talked to a woman, named Megan, who I believe was a manager. Megan thoroughly explained the entire menu to us, and tried to help us find something that would please us. My wife decided to order an appetizer. As soon as they brought the order, the Executive Chef Jacob Jasinski, came to our table. He explained how the salmon was cooked, and offered to bring us some samples, so that we could make a decision. We agreed! We tried the samples, and decided to place the order. Tonight, my wife and I have learned a new way to taste salmon, but most importantly we love how we were treated by all members of the staff, and how special they made us feel. When we were leaving Mr. Jasinski approached us again, and told us to call to let him know we were coming, so that he could cook the salmon the way we like it. What a display of great customer service and professionalism by the entire team! They have turned a potentially disappointing evening into a happy one! Definitely, we will be back!

What an absolutely lovely place! While enjoying the senery on the Cliff Walk, we planned to stop here for some delicious hot chocolate, as we have done in the past. There are comfortable chairs on the lawn, overlooking the ocean, to enjoy the hot beverage. This time, we decided to have a light lunch inside. The restaurant is beautiful and romantic, the service is five stars, the view of the ocean is lovely, and the food is exquisite! If you are in the area, this restaurant is a MUST visit!

We came from Boston (1.5h away) to have lunch in this gorgeous place. The flowers on each table and the music were perfect! Our pasta with chicken was incredible! Desert, that our waitress advice us to get was to die for! We took a lot of pictures, enjoyed the beautiful view, and overall had an excellent time!

We had a wonderful 2.5h pre-fix lunch experience at the Cafe! Alex, our sever was caring, attentive and accommodating.
The food was outstanding, best chicken we had ever had, interesting wine and obviously great views!

Fabulous service, ambience and food - entirely memorable. Will be back!

We took a day trip from Providence to Newport to walk the Cliff Walk and explore. I made lunch reservations at the Cafe at the Chanler based on researching the area online. This was our first trip out since the COVID shutdown, and our cancelled wedding, so I wanted to make sure it was safe and fun. They had their COVID precautions available on the website, and I was able to reserve an outdoor table with no problem. The service, the food, and the view were all OUTSTANDING! The people were friendly and accommodating, and the proper COVID precautions were adhered to by both staff and guests. Our waiter (I wish I could remember his name!) was so attentive and fun. The food was great, especially dessert! Fresh, high quality, and beautifully plated. Expensive yes, but we had planned on that, and considered our first trip out a special occasion. The view (and the weather) were perfect. The wine list and cocktails were also wonderful. Highly recommend the "Summer Breeze" - my new favorite warm weather cocktail! Would love to stay at the hotel someday, perhaps if we win the lottery! ;) But we'll definitely be back to the Cafe!

It’s our second stay at the Chanler and the food is exceptional… warning: not for those who want large or extra large portions, definitely a meal with updated upscale American style fare, served with a fabulous view by lovely staff. Every meal has been so so good!

Fantastic service and view . Your there for the ambience more than the food .

Nice restaurant in an exclusive hotel. The menu is a bit different from what I am used to seeing (see pics attached). There is not a lot of options. The ambiance is pleasant.

My Husband and I had our anniversary dinner at The Café. The beginning was interesting as I had checked the menu online to make sure they had food for me (I'm a vegetarian) and it was said that their main restaurant Cara does not cater to special diets.
However once we sat down and got the menus I noticed the only vegetarian dish mentioned online was not there anymore. We were told that that was a seasonal dish, even though it was printed on the menu online. I was annoyed by this, but luckily the chef was willing to create a vegetarian dish for me, and OMG it was amazing! My husband had the Seafood Cookpot and it left him speechless. After 2 weeks we still keep talking about those dishes!

So thank you very much to the kitchen staff, they are culinary artists! The wait staff were very professional and friendly as well.

Would have been 5 stars, but I'm giving 4 because of the outdated menu online. In 2023 high profile place like this should really keep up with their online presence and update their menus accordingly.

The cafe has a great view of the beach, service impeccable, and the food was good. Check out the restroom while you are there, I thought it was very luxurious.

Had the tasting menu. Good but were hoping for a little more for the price
