Our stay at The Ordinary was a real treat! Check-in was easy and the house was spotless. The cleanest Airbnb we have ever stayed at. The real treat though was the splendor of this historical house! We felt like we had stepped back 200 years in time but with all the modern amenities. The house is decorated perfectly in colonial colors and furnishings. Beautiful color choices and so much history to read about from the pictures on the walls. Oh the stories those walls must have witnessed over the last 200 years! The foundation of our country could have been mapped out right there in the tavern during George Washington's visits. We thoroughly enjoyed the tavern space as well. It was fun to have a whole bar to ourselves to make drinks and play games. We will definitely be back!

Really enjoyed staying at the Lafayette Cottage. Very comfortable accommodations, clean and as pictured. The beds were comfy and the bathroom was huge! Easy communications with Pamela before check in made the stay even better! Coffee bar was nice as well as the cash bar availability! Great place to rest for us while we were in town for a wedding weekend!

The Ordinary of New Kent feels both luxurious and historically authentic at the same time. The brick floors in the bar/tavern area allowed me to imagine being there 300 years ago. The furniture, tables, and artwork are very nice but also have a historic feel.

Our bed was comfortable. Bathroom was roomy and nicely furnished.

The setting is relaxing. I enjoyed reading at one of the many outdoor tables overlooking horses and trees. At night I sat at these same tables gazing at the stars.

We had an excellent reasonably priced meal at Martha's which is a short walk across the street. We had a nice hike at the Wahrani Nature Trail which was an 8 minute drive. On Saturday the Farmer's market was about a 5 minute drive and a fun outing.

It is clear that a lot of effort went into the restoration. I think most will enjoy their stay at The Ordinary.

Last week we had the opportunity to stay at The Ordinary of New Kent. The Ordinary is extraordinary in many ways, the owners have done an exceptional job in renovating this historical place while preserving its history and adding modern comforts.
The Ordinary is 20 minutes away from historic Williamsburg and 10 minutes from St. Peter’s Parish Church. The place is very relaxing, one can enjoy some quiet time with a book, have brunch outdoors, and stargaze in the evening.

Pam and her team are top notch! The Ordinary is anything but! It was the perfect spot for our multi-family stay. Most times we congregated in the tavern, but every room in the house was clean and well-appointed. The kitchen made meal prep easy, the rooms were clean and comfortable, and the grounds were fantastic. Pamela brought her horses out for my kids to say hello, and she was responsive to every text. She also provided lots of history to this unique stay. There was a good restaurant easy walking distance across the street, and a playground within a five minute walk as well. would definitely recommend this spot to anyone looking in the area! Hope to be back again.

This is one of the loveliest historical hospitality venues you will find in Virginia. It’s renovation with all the modern conveniences, while keeping with the period-appropriate decor, was masterfully executed. The town is quant and peaceful. Such a special place to get away for a long weekend. We thoroughly enjoyed it. If it isn’t heaven, you can see it from where you’re sitting!

My wife and I wanted to take a family trip to celebrate her 40th birthday and stumbled across the New Kent Ordinary. We were traveling with a large party that included both children and adults and needed a place with plenty of bedrooms, bathrooms, indoor and outdoor lounge space, and parking. This property proved to be the perfect fit. Nestled in the heart of a quaint town, it was a relaxing "home base" that was within a short drive of fun family-friendly activities in both Richmond and the Historic Triangle. The building and grounds are amazing - the perfect blend of history and modern amenities - though the highlight, as others have noted, is certainly Bassett's Tavern. The property doubles as an events space and is well stocked, organized, and clean. Pamela proved to be a wonderful and communicative / responsive host. I also thought the price was very reasonable and a far superior "bang for the buck" than most of the other properties we researched. Very highly recommended!

New Kent was absolutely fabulous! Our family was in town for a wedding and rented the main house and carriage house. Immaculate grounds. Plenty of space with historical charm and updated bathrooms! A must stay if you are in the area!

My spouse and I had a wonderful time at The Ordinary. We stayed in the cottage, which was cozy and well-equipped. The renovation of the main building of The Ordinary, from the late 1600's, was remarkable--it felt really cool to have a beer in the tavern and to read on the broad front porch in one of the rocking chairs. A great weekend--and dinner across the street at Martha's Table was delicious too.

I just had an event with a charitable organization at this lovely venue! The staff were so accommodating! Pattie and Pam were great to work with! The venue itself is beautiful and full of history! My favorite place to be was beside the beautiful bar and fireplace downstairs. I hope to return soon!

I’ve never been inside, and haven’t dealt with them as a business, but the building is beautiful! Right across the street and facing the historic courthouse!
