South Dock

Such a beautiful place! If you take the ferry from Garrison to West Point, make sure you have a ride! We had to pull three suitcases a few miles up the hill to IHG. It was Sunday so no post taxi! The beauty of the Hudson helped slow the breathing!

A great place for cadets to catch the ferry to Garrison for the train,.

Painted by Robert Walter Weir (1803-1889). This view is much more romantic than that done by Weir from the promontory of West Point. Weir had the ability to paint in many styles suited to a range of subjects (portraits, historic scenes, tranquil and dramatic landscapes). Here there is a subtle but powerful pull toward the peaks of the southern Hudson Highlands. The motion of the boats seems pulled toward the sea by the tidal flow.

As a dock, I rate it 3 out of 5, but a big seagull scared me while I was there and it lowered my rating to 1 out of 5. Control your gulls and you'll get better ratings.
