The Buckhorn Burger at Buckhorn Tavern in San Antonio, NM, truly lives up to its acclaim. Ranked #7 in America, this burger includes the delightful kick of Hatch green chili, which brings a unique New Mexican flair that sets it apart from any other burger I've tried. The chili's robust flavor perfectly complements the juicy burger, creating an unforgettable taste experience.

The onion rings were also a highlight—crispy and perfectly seasoned. The cozy atmosphere and friendly service only enhanced the meal further. Now I understand why this burger is so highly rated, and I can't recommend it enough!

We were on our way to 4 Corners Monument and heard we needed to stop at Buckhorn. It was DEFINITELY worth it. Kind, quick service. We got chips and salsa and learned that they fry the tortilla chips AFTER you order them! Fresh tortilla chips?! Amazing. The salsa was flavorful and delicious. We had to get the Buckhorn burger. Crazy delicious. Worth all the hype.

Stopped by here on the way to T or C. First of all, great service. I had one of the best waitresses I have had in a very long time. Very attentive, anticipates your needs, and quick. The food was also great. I got chips and salsa to start, and it was pretty incredible. The chips were really tasty by themselves and the salsa was just the right amount of spicy and very well seasoned. For the main course I had their signature green chile burger and once again it was delicious. The burger was perfectly cooked (juicy and charred properly, the green chile sauce and all the toppings paired really well together too. Once again it had a perfect level of spice for me and all the ingredients tasted fresh and quality. Portion sizes are also pretty reasonable for the price. I will say, the fries are no really much to write home about. They were inconsistent (some were soggy and some were overcooked, all not really seasoned) and bland. I would recommend skipping the fries and just get more chips and salsa

After spending the morning touring the Trinity Site, we stopped here for a light lunch snack. Uh, big mistake. The famous "green chile cheeseburger" is not a snack. It's a half pound monster. Which is not to say that it isn't absolutely delicious.

Quite busy with tourists today but probably not usually so busy, we waited a bit for a table and then placed our orders. The burger (with a basket of fries big enough to feed three hungry dudes) took 20 minutes. Worth it.

Yeah, the reputation lives up to the quality. Delicious, perfectly cooked and topped with cheese and green chiles (and lettuce, tomato, onion). Yummy!

The Buckhorn never disappoints. I've decided The Fred is my new favorite! Burger patty, topped with fries, smothered with a delicious mushroom cream sauce, cheese and green chile. Served with a side salad yummmm. I don't think my husband was expecting this monster when he ordered a double! Wow! We had to take half home. The service is always great and the atmosphere is very cool. If you think they are going to be slow on a Friday at 2:30... You are mistaken. However it is always worth a short wait.

The atmosphere took us back to Days gone by. The food is absolutely amazing I had the open-faced burger smothered with red chili, Louie had the famous green chili cheeseburger with onion rings, and Angie had the patty melt I believe. The red chili reminded me so much of my grandma's red 🌶. Anyway, we all enjoyed our meal. We will definitely be back.

Staff was very nice. You could tell the meat was fresh in the burgers. The tostadas are also made fresh and hot!

There's a reason why this is rated a top 10 burger in America! Top notch friendly service, even for us - the first ones through the door as soon as they opened. Our hostess was extremely friendly and attentive. You don't go to Buckhorn without ordering their namesake, and it did not disappoint. If you are withing reasonable driving distance, this is a must have. Their red chile cheese dog was also solid, but not to the level of their burger. Their "cut in house" fries are also delicious. Perfect pairing with their burger. I can't wait to go back!

We visited in March 2024 and loved it! Very yummy and fresh green Chile burgers & homemade fries. (Actually had been told by a local to try a different place just down the road, but Buckhorn is WAY BETTER!!) We will definitely visit here again.

If you have an hour to slow down and stop here, to eat, DO SO! The burgers are worth it, the inside is quirky, and they beat Bobby Flay in a burger showdown.(Reportedly) 🙂 In the middle of nowhere, stop! Get a burger!

Great food! Burgers were delicious. Only thing I would change is cooking them more towards medium instead of well. Service was great.

Small and quaint. Lots of history and small town feel. Locals were brimming with conversation and laughter when we arrived.
Ended up outside in their covered dining area. With a softball team ahead of us, the wait was short and completely worth it. As noted on their menus. The Buckhorn burger is legendary. Fries and atmosphere, exactly what we needed on any road trip. Highly recommended.

Absolutely great atmosphere inside and lovely experience overall. The waiters are really lovely and kind to you. And the food, was definitely tasty and not too bad at all in terms of prices. Would definitely recommend if you're around. The buckhorn burger was very tasty, and same was the case of the quesadillas.

What's not to love about taking in quintessential New Mexico on a Saturday afternoon?! Been a while, no too long, since being here. Plenty more on the menu to try including what looked like a very popular grilled chicken salad. So many choices, so little time

Before opening our restaurant we did some research and development on burgers and NM fare and had to try Buckhorn. Solid burgers and if I get the chance to go I always order the Fred's Special which is hand cut fries, burger patty and a cream sauce. Great ambiance, and I prefer to eat outdoors in their beautifully built patio. Great selection of local beers. Casual, easy, and great for big groups and to bring people from out of town.

This place has the best green chile cheese burgers I've ever eaten. The burgers are made to order and appear to be hand pressed, which I feel makes this burger better. The green chile has the perfect flavor that is just hot enough to let you know it's there. The homemade fries are a perfect addition to a meal and reminded me of the fries my mom used to make when I was growing up. The staff is extremely friendly, and the orders are served promptly. As for now, they do dine-in and carry out. There is limited seating inside, but there is also have a good size patio area for seating. The sign in front of the restaurant states that the Buckhorn has the 7th best cheese burgers in America but disagree I think it's the best plus nothing can beat green chile on a cheese burger with homemade fries. If you are anywhere near this restaurant or want to try a local favorite for a great tasting burger, I strongly suggest paying Buckhorn Tavern a visit and ordering the Buckhorn Burger. You won't regret it.
