The Original Owl Bar & Cafe

Extremely cool bar/diner/biker hang out vibe. But in vibe only, there was an entire family with children enjoying their meal, cops in uniform enjoying the place, hipsters...you get the point. Good food, old school Diner style, limited beers, BUT, there is some cool history here. They are famous for their hatch green chili burgers - claim to have invented them. There's also signs that basically state Einstein and Oppenheimer ate there, a lot. It's right down the road from the Trinity site.

Years ago my father told me that I needed to stop this restaurant on my way between Alamogordo and Albuquerque. 20 years later I stopped there. Man I should have listened to my dad. The burgers were excellent, the atmosphere is exactly what I would expect. If I am ever close to the owl bar I will stop in again. Thanks Dad

While the green chili burger was quite delicious the standout was the chili & beans. You're joking yourself if you order a cup...just go ahead and get a bowl or you'll end up ordering two cups as I did. So, so good.

Hadn't been here in a few years, and we were hoping it would be as good as we remembered, and it sure was. The best hand-made patties and real fries anywhere. Staff are fantastic and love the kitchen atmosphere. A must stop when you're in the area.

If you can't figure out what to get, just pick something with green chili on it. Delicious burgers that aren't messy, amazing fries loaded or unloaded, and great service! Definitely coming back next time I'm in Socorro.

It is one of the best green Chile cheese burgers in New Mexico. l have been coming here for thirty-five years, and now im bringing my kids. I love the atmosphere and the staff are very friendly. A must stop when traveling through San Antonio.

Holy smokes. This is a good burger! This place is beyond legendary. My buddy who grew up in the area recommended it, and I made a point to stop in on my way through - and I am glad I did. The green chili is tasty and spicy, but not just hot for the sake of it. If you’re coming though on 25, stop in and see the Owl!

Went there on a Monday for lunch. Wife and I had green chili cheeseburgers and an order of fries and onion rings. Our waitress was great. The cheeseburger was fantastic—up in the top ten percent for us. The fries and onion rings were solid. Overall a great experience with our only comment is that the fries and onion rings came out five minutes after the burgers. Will definitely stop by again.

Very happy to have finally had the chance to stop in and try the famous Owl Bar & Cafe. I came in for the green chile cheeseburger and it did not disappoint. For $12.50, you get a delicious, freshly ground green chile cheeseburger and an order of green chile cheese fries as well. The service was very fast and friendly. Cool little dive bar to quench your thirst as well. Just stay away from the grumpy troll IPA. It's neither good or an IPA. Perhaps one of the worst beers I've ever tried.

Been wanting to try the Owl for years, had the green chile cheeseburger and was not disappointed! Juicy with nice generous medium heat hatch chile between the hand formed patty and American cheese. Add in a great vibe and the sweetest server ever. ❤

Sit at the bar to catch up on local news or a booth in the back to absorb the ambiance.
LEOs bring a patch to add to their collection.
And have your sunglasses for when you exit because it’s always brighter outside.

Their food were great. We had green chili cheese burger with onion rings and fries together. There were additional fun with their history and also inside decorations. Don’t pass here on your driving.

The food came out really fast, we had the geeen chili cheese burgers and they were as described, world famous! Really tasty and home made patties. The staff are so nice, you can not get nicer people anywhere else.
The bar itself is awesome, lots of little momentos from previous guests.
You can tell its a well loved place.
We will be back soon, we have family around new mexico and this place is where we pass through.

First time here. The green Chile cheese burger was so delicious. The service was awesome also. Will definitely be back in the future. Oh yeahh I forgot to mention.The beer was cold AF!
