The Salmonberry

Many have written at length about The Salmonberry. I will try to say something different here. I've always enjoyed my experience and consider this one of my favorite restaurants on the coast. My experience varies some with each visit and I've learned to expect and accept that. You have to "roll with it" here as a lot of how you're served is different than you may expect, starting with the line at the door to place your order and how menu items often sell out quickly. It just may be a pizza night, and that will prove to be fine. Your food will be served quickly and be very good. Though the bartenders are highly competent, the bar offerings are surprisingly limited. A good attitude will serve you well here as the staff will always try to please, if you'll just let them. Of course arriving earlier, in addition to the prospect of a beautiful sunset view, may afford you better odds with what remains available on their blackboard menu. My bottom line: Go experience The Salmonberry!

In a tourist community, if you want a good restaurant, you eat where the locals and suppliers eat. On the north Oregon coast that place would be The Salmonberry. The food is amazing-- homemade pasta cooked to perfection and sauced with locally sourced seafood, meat, and vegetables (even seaweed!), house made sausage, the best oysters on the coast, local cider, and homemade desserts to die for. (Where else does the pastry chef forage for her ingredients?) And oh my gosh the pizzas alone would be worthy of a visit.
Prices are in line with other nice restaurants, but at Salmonberry the portions match the prices. Last week, I ate there with a friend and we shared one app, one salad, one pasta, and one dessert, and we still had leftovers to take home. The menu changes frequently depending on local harvest and I have yet to order anything I wouldn't order again. Favorites: I had a black and blue ribeye that was THE BEST steak I've ever eaten. (I’m afraid to order steak anywhere else now.) Try any salad but when local tomatoes come in, order two. The dulse seaweed laced bucatini with clams is a local favorite you have to try. Unless lamb is on the menu, then get both. Vegetarian options are available too. Kudos to the Chef and staff for the variety and quality of the menu!
All that great food wouldn't need a fantastic sunset, water view, or a great staff and a casual fun atmosphere. But Salmonberry has that going on too. BTW, like many Portland and local restaurants, you order at the counter and grab your own silverware. Please don’t complain about this while you are standing in line. If it bothers you, go eat someplace else. Really your biggest challenge with Salmonberry is you will want to order everything. Not a bad problem to have!

We arrived on a Sunday evening around 5 with no wait to order. While the menu was small, most items were appealing, and we ordered a pasta dish and pepperoni pizza.

The items came out at different times and though they made a mistake on the pizza, the left that one for us and brought us another made correctly in just a few more minutes.

The food was unbelievable. So so good. We are over our heads in good pizza and food in Portland and it was a total surprise to find that kind of quality out here in this tiny coast town.

Yes, the prices are high, but I felt the quality made it worth it.

Kid was happy and loved both dishes.

Beer options were few but excellent.

I wish there was full table service here. It would match the quality of the food. Feels weird to have to grab your own plates/napkins/utensils.

Phenomenal food with a great view. Even though it's counter service, the staff is friendly and attentive. Everything comes in big portions. Great for family style eating. Some of my personal favorites were the Ragu, Mushroom Pizza and Hazelnut Pesto. But we ordered everything and everything was great. Don't sleep on the salad either. We got 3 of those for 6 adults and it is the perfect compliment to tons of delicious pasta. I should have taken more photos of the food, but it was too good to wait on.

SO. GOOD. I got dinner here last weekend and it was delicious. A great view eating by the water with beautiful sunlight. We got “the otherside” cocktail, sourdough and meatball starters, and three pasta dishes. Everything was divine.

I had tried to come here two times previously and they were closed even though google said they were open. And this time the line was out the door right when they opened. (So plan accordingly, maybe have a backup option in mind if you can’t get in.)

We love this place. The food is always good. The Bartenders John and Brit are super friendly and make the best drinks. We will go again, and again.

Such fresh foods. Best oysters here I have ever had. Also had raw salmon (in a salad) that they had caught the same morning and they were so delicious. Their mushroom pizza was also delightful. Beautiful indoor and outdoor sitting. Friendly staff. Wonderful experience

This is the best restaurant in all of Oregon. I'll happily drive a few hours there and back just to visit. The owner is cool, the bartender is super cool, the location is absolutely gorgeous and the food is simply amazing. Their head chef really knows how to cook! I can't recommend this place enough.

Cannot say enough good things about this place. Love the style of service, ordering at the front and sitting to eat. The food is just amazing, I don't need to write about it you just have the get in line and try it. The best dining experience I've had on the Oregon coast. While we ate, we shared a table with a lovely local older couple who went easy on us for coming in from town and watched salmon with us literally jumping out of the water next to the patio. FOH knew how to handle a crowd and was so friendly and on top of it with everyone. There is a GF pasta option if you ask that's also made in house!! Can't wait to come back again!

The - everything. I loved talking to the folks who had made the food. The bar was so warm and inviting. Just 10/10 a food 💎 gem

I saw another review that said the food is made with love and I cannot agree more. Our party of 8 had pasta, salad, meatballs, and pizza and they were all excellent. Food quality was exceptional. Tables outdoors are have umbrellas if it is drizzling. Come at sunset for amazing views.

Salmonberry served us with the most delicious and fresh food that is around. From fresh caught fish the day of to fresh picked chanterelle mushrooms, every ingredient came together that really brought a unique PNW flavor to everything.

We just ate at The Salmonberry for the first time and were blown away by our experience! We had two small children with us and 3 adults and had a great time. The food was excellent (the pizzas and radiatore were so tasty!! ). The food arrived surprisingly quickly (which is great when you have hungry kids). The server was fantastic as well. We will definitely recommend this restaurant to others and come again the next time we are in town.

The food was excellent. The wait to get our food was excessive, but it is a very popular place, and it gets extremely busy. If you have the time and the patience, you need to try this restaurant at least once in your life.
I liked the simplicity of the location where you can sit by the water front, in the dining room, or in the garden. The food is locally sourced, fresh, and prepared in a very simplistic way, but it is phenomenal. The pasta, the pizza, and dessert were excellent.

We had the tacos (Fish & Carnitas), and the Charcuterie Board (fresh local cheeses, cured meats, pickles, and homemade bread);

It was a superlative satisfying meal experience !

Amazing food!! Shrooms pizza and the pesto pasta really hit the spot. I personally love the set up of the restaurant. Food comes out quick, easy to pick up your own dishes/ silverware etc. Beautiful view of the water and cute decor inside. Prices fair and staff is friendly. Highly recommend.

Please don't tell all your friends about this place. I mean, you can tell your very best friends, I guess, but don't spill the beans to just anyone. Otherwise we'll all have to wait in longer lines for the delicious food.

Beautiful scenery, the staff were friendly, and food is delish- we had happy hour oyster shooters, 3-pc fish n chips, and some truffle fries. OMG- SO GOOD! (I forgot to take a photo of the fish/fries)

Had a fantastic meal here - great main course (spinach pasta in a hazelnut pesto - I forget the name), fantastic cheesecake dessert. One of the best places I have eaten!

Thanks for creating a sustainable establishment on the coast! I absolutely love and admire your desire to reduce waste, from the paper straws, cloth napkins, and paper to-go containers, to your commitment to source products locally. The food is fantastic, the drink choices are whimsical and delicious, and the staff is super friendly. This will surely be my hangout for the summer. So excited to spend many afternoons on the deck!
