Small museum of artifacts from Martha Vineyard. Fun area for the children to play and interact with stuffed animals. If you are a fan of Jaws, there is a small exhibit with photos and items. The museum hosts 2 special events. Well kept and the staff were friendly and helpful.

The best part of the museum isn't in the museum. It's in the barn that's filled with artifacts from the shipbuilding era. Every time we took another look there was something else to see. The museum itself was filled with fascinating aspects of MV history. And outside is a marvelous rock garden.

Beautiful museum and exhibits. The jaws exibhit was very small but they are planning to extend it in 2025. We learned so much about Dorothy West, her life, legacy, writing and the Harlem Renaissance.

Such a beautiful space with the most amazing and kind hearted staff. The museum offers so much more than the typical "museum" exhibits.
Friday night they have fun "Friday Resets" which is a great event they put on for adults weekly. Live music, games, food and drinks are available as well as the opportunity to win fun prizes.

Great local museum with a wide range of historical exhibits. The interactive children’s area was great. Beautiful property with views of the harbor and a well restored historic building

Wonderfully friendly and knowledgeable staff and docents...and when they didn't know answers to our questions, they found them out from their colleagues. Special props to the educator, Alia. Great children's area...I learned a lot there as an adult, too! (Also a small harbor sand play area with blue sand to represent water outside to entertain the kids, think Waldorfy New England zen garden.) The Dorothy West exhibit was an added bonus as a temporary exhibit theough early September. The adult cost was high, but average for museums, yet the child cost was low, so it evened out. There was also a Massachusetts teacher discount for one of our adults. Check the website for all the museum reciprocities and discounts. What I loved most was reading this: "Recipients of SNAP benefits receive free admission to the Museum by showing an EBT card as part of the Institute for Museums and Library Services Museum for All program." Though after the fact, knowing this for next time and others is great. Every day I was pleasantly surprised that Martha's Vineyard and the museum as an extension of it, was not the hoity-toity super overpriced snobby place that one may assume with the rich and famous living here.

We weren't sure what to expect, but this was actually a nicely done museum. Easy to explore, learn about everything from famous residents such as Dorothy West, to the stories behind shipwrecks, and the filming of Jaws. The building itself is historic with plenty of space and natural light. It sits up on a hill with a gorgeous view of the water. There is even a nice garden and exhibit area out back.

My wife had her baby shower here. The venue was easily accessible and located high up on a hill with a great view. The room was simple, but exactly what we needed. Reasonable price to rent the room for 3 hours.

An absolutely gorgeous museum with so much to offer and learn. We didn't give it the time it deserved, and still left there having really enjoyed the exhibits. How cool to see a First Order Fresnel lens in person? Look forward to a second visit with more time and non-Covid so the kids activity section is open.

This museum was wonderful. The staff was helpful, kind, and knowledgeable. The exhibits were very impactful, especially for their footprint. The exhibit about the previous Deaf population was my favorite!

The Museum houses an interesting collection that provides a great overview of the island's history. There are activities for young children also. The lighthouse lens and early equipment are wonderful to see close up.

Bigger and better location in VH. They've done a great job setting up the new space. The research librarian is extremely knowledgeable and helpful.

Great little museum covering a variety of topics, inside the museum and outside. From fresnel lenses on lighthouses to a nifty little “Jaws” exhibit to Black history on the island with a Dorothy West exhibit, this little museum shows that it can hold its own. Gorgeous grounds over looking the harbor. Make sure to grab a seat on a rocking chair on the porch before you head out!

Truly excellent museum and the incredible docent, Phyllis, is a MV treasure. The exhibits are thoughtful, varied and informative but not overwhelming. There are several audio recordings and touch screen displays to do deep dives on topics related to the exhibits. Absolutely beautiful, peaceful space and location.

What a wonderful museum. Well done for COVID as they have a good path and tracing. Wonderful exhibit now by Steve Maxner. A hidden gem. I saw no signs to get there. Used google maps.
