Check's Cafe

There aren’t too many places where I can get good fried chicken livers but Checks is one of the best! You get enough for two meals along with two generous sides and a roll; gravy, too, if you want it. My husband got a big bowl of meaty chili (with cheese, onions and spaghetti ), and a club sandwich; half of the sandwich came home for later! We like the pub atmosphere of this neighborhood institution. We also like to go on Sunday after church because there is no waiting!

We were in town for a night and decided to try checks. It was a busy fun atmosphere and a local band playing some country tunes. Food was all really good! Recommend the chili (made fresh daily) chicken sandwich and chicken tenders. Onion rings good too! Would definitely go again if I get the chance!

Check’s is close enough to walk to but far enough to make it a destination walk for us. The food is excellent and in sizable portions. No disappointments ever. We love having meals with our friends there.
Also, Megan behind the bar is an absolute delight. She’s a class act.

1st timer and it was amazing. Staff was super friendly but not in a weird way 😂 in a really cool pleasant way. We were celebrating a friend's birthday with some old and new friends. It's always a good hang with us. Will definitely be back.

Great neighborhood feel, and they had a big bottle of hot sauce on the table!! I recommend the fried mushrooms, jalapenos poppers, and fried catfish. Three of my friends got the chili, and I'm definitely going to sample it on my next visit!!

I had bean soup and a Reuben which were excellent ! My husband had a cheeseburger and chili ( Luke warm) but they heated it back up, but it was good too! Trivia tonight which was fun! Will be back soon!

Nice selection of beers. Quite a variety of food offerings. Had one of the Specials - the Philly Cheesesteak - and it was very good.
Took my niece there before flying home to Sacramento. She LOVED the place! Said it was cozy & friendly, and she was thrilled to have a Yuengling draft (apparently hard to get in California).

First time here, great experience minus the parking. Cheesesteak and Ruben were excellent. Service was good they were very busy for Monday lunch time. Definitely worth a visit.

Amazing food, had chili, turkey and dressing with mashed potatoes and broccoli casserole. It was all so delicious and a fun little cafe. Great prices too!

Really good food! Such a cute little area, we sat outside and it was so peaceful with a sweet church bell that rang on the hour.

I had the buffalo chicken. You get three huge pieces of chicken breast with buffalo sauce on them. Wonderful!

There is always an order line. Send someone to grab your seats before you get in line.

Friendly atmosphere & very patient with our indecisiveness.. everything just looked to good! The lady even warmed up my cookie for me! 😍🦃🍪 - service was fast & restaurant was very clean .. not to mention decorated nicely!

I've heard this is one of the great Locals places, and no joke. This is a must stop at place. You can tell from the moment you walk in that this has been a family favorite for generations. You can tell by the quirks of ordering and serving that you had best adapt to their ways, or you won't be served!

Had the fried catfish, and wow. Light, crispy crust, flaky fish on the inside. Killer onion rings too.

This was awesome! Friendly, fair priced and fun! The bartender handled customers like she was juggling balls in a circus! Highly recommend for super reasonably priced drinks and hometown atmosphere.

We love to go to Checks Cafe on Wednesday nights to play Trivia. The beer and the food is always good.

They are very helpful when it comes to first time orders they know the menu and are very patient 😉 it's a great atmosphere and lots of tasty food

I recently went to this place and was actually surprised by how good the food was! Customer service was great as well. This place is popular with the locals so you see the same people almost every time you go. I usually get a dressed cheese burger (lettuce, mayo, tomato, jalapeños) with a side of fries. Their fries are delicious. Usually I have to specify that I'd like my fries well done (I don't like soggy fries) when I go out but with them, I didn't have to. They were fried to perfection! Onion rings were great too! The cheeseburger had a lot of flavor. The price is perfect for the quality and quantity of food! Will definitely be going back.

Surprisingly good food. Went here to meet old friend and expected run of the mill bar food, what I got was not bar food and not run of the mill. If I still lived in Louisville I would be here weekly.

Local pub featuring cold drinks and bar food. Karaoke happens sometimes. The staff is friendly, its a cozy place to go sit down have a drink and a meal. The fries are good, the brat on rye is solid and the fish sandwich is a most generous portion. Burger is solid too. Great draft selection featuring craft and popular varieties.

Okay, local neighborhood diner with some local options. The place is quiet and allows for a nice business setting! I was there and enjoyed a burger and ribeye sandwhich that didn't break the wallet. Beer & spirits available!
