"the" Kitchen

This place is great! It's a cozy diner with a lot of character! The staff was very nice, attentive, and checked on us often. My food was also tasty, modestly priced, and prepared quickly. I order the meat Lovers scrambler with hash browns and I would definitely get it again. Highly recommended giving them a try for breakfast! The only thing I did not enjoy was the coffee. I felt it was bitter, but everything else was on point.

We really enjoyed breakfast here. Service was good and the portions were ample.

The stuffed hash browns were delicious…the brisket did not disappoint! The hash browns were crispy on the outside and seasoned well.

My over easy eggs were a little over done, but the pancakes were good sized (ask for blueberries!).

Great family restaurant. We had breakfast entrees at lunchtime and everyone was happy. I had the hash browns with brisket which was a bit salty (because they put a tasty seasoning salt on the top and brisket is already naturally salty) but it was still good. Our server, Hunter, was authenticity friendly and the best one i can recall having ever. I’m serious. Some guys next to us ordered the rueben sandwich which was huge and looked awesome. It’s light and clean inside. Nice place to linger for conversation with friends. We’ll be back.

A couple of weeks ago I had the Friday cod loin fish fry, the batter on the fish was excellent thin and crunchy, fish was moist, potato pancakes were tasty along with the coleslaw and Marbled rye. Tonight I had the smoked brisket chimichanga (not deep fried) crispy non greasy and excellent flavor , extra heavily loaded beans had a great variety of smoked meat added. Service has been great on all 3 of my visits. Portions at the “Kitchen” are generous and price reasonable. So nice to have a restaurant in Sussex with a professional meat smoker and the skill to use it…. Forget to mention the Home made pies , I had the peanut butter pie WOW

"the" Kitchen in Sussex, is a hidden gem. I am hesitant to review it publicly because it may lose its small town diner feel.

I have been here 2x, both times for breakfast. Fast service, friendly service, quick coffee and good. My first time I had an omelette - nothing wrong with it. The second time I had the Corned Beef with two eggs over easy - nothing wrong with it. And, a side of ham - moist and not dryed out. The wheat bread both times were good.

A nice, small town diner that for me does it right.

I will be back (at least) 1x per week.

“The” Kitchen has friendly staff and delicious food! I was impressed that the pancakes were as big as they said they are, and beware because they will fill you up! I was pleasantly surprised. Because I was unfamiliar with the menu, I paid a little bit more than I anticipated for the side of two eggs and bacon—versus a combined menu item, But I still have no complaints, and would definitely come back again! It was good to see a well staffed crew and even younger people who wanted to work!

What a find! My new boss brought me here for breakfast. As you can see, they have bottomless mimosas. Great food. They are super-friendly! The portion size of the pancakes is enormous. All other portions are just huge. LOL. They even have a slot room. Just incredible.

2 eggs, hash browns, cajun sausage, toast, coffee.
Sausage was a large link (8") & spicy, as it should be. Spuds could have been a bit better, but I will order them again. Eggs, toast, coffee were fine. Service is excellent: fast and friendly. Place is neat & clean.

Fresh cooked breakfast for the 3 of us. Fast, accurate. Helpers are friendly and attentive, but not too attentive. The timing was good. Out of coffee for a couple minutes?… there they are. Refilled creamer and jam, too, for us. Daily specials are fun and nicely priced.

Very nice place. Owner is present and talks to everyone. You should get breakfast there.

This place is excellent! Pick anything on the menu; it'll be fantastic! Very friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Every plate here is proudly served by excellent cooks.

A great restaurant! Friendly staff who cares. Delicious food. We had the Friday fish fry and it was excellent! Will definitely be back.

I've been here a multitude of times for breakfast - and it's hands down one of the best breakfast places we've been to. Recently, we stopped in for dinner (I didn't even know they were open for dinner). I ended up sticking with one of my usuals (pattymelt), which is a decision I only regret because of all the other amazing dishes I saw come out. I'm definitely coming back for the stir-fry.

Weeks ago we happened upon this resturant. We simply had a burger, frie and onion rings. Some of the best little resturant food we've had in a while. Next visit will certainly be breakfast judging by the dishes that were served around us.

Service was very accommodating as well as parking.

A very basic interior, reminiscent of an old school diner. Kind staff, great family atmosphere. The food was delicious. I had the pulled pork Sammy with tater tots. The pulled pork was well seasoned and smoked, with spicy/sweet pickles, very delicious. The tots were crunchy, so often they aren't and we're seasoned and salted. Would definitely return.

The meat has a smokehouse flavor. The Cajun sausage is exclusive to “the” Kitchen, and is amazing! I’m looking forward to trying more of the menu!

Food was good, has a home cooked atmosphere. was contacted multiple times for coffee refills and food satisfaction. 😋

Edit 5/5/23: Stopped in tonight and ate at the restaurant. Service was very fast and attentive. I had the baked fish again and my son had a Bacon Cheeseburger. He said it's one of the best burgers he's ever had. I look forward to going back and trying breakfast some time soon.
On 4/7/23 I got carry out beer battered haddock fish fry for my son and I got the baked haddock. We both enjoyed the fish. It had very good flavor. We both got fries and agreed they were probably the best fries we've ever had. Crispiness and seasoning were perfect. We look forward to going back, maybe for a breakfast and eating in the restaurant so I can comment a little more on the atmosphere.

This is a family friendly restaurant. The food was great. They gave our tables a full pot of coffee and refilled it at least twice for us before too long.

Not a 5 star atmosphere but good food great service..Marines eat here Semper Fi.

The food is really good, especially their home made sausages (hatch chili is bomb!) When they first opened they had a few struggles with staffing and training but I knew this was just growing pains so I have kept coming back. I love how welcome the older couple make you feel. Prices make this place an excellent value. I hope this place sticks around because I have been here 5 or 6 times now and I plan on making this a regular breakfast venue for my family. Well done 👍
