We needed a bookshelf and a TV stand for our living room. We ended up getting two custom shelves and two custom TV stands. John was a pleasure to work with. He workshopped the designs with us and made sure we were satisfied. The pieces were just delivered yesterday and we love them. The craftsmanship is outstanding and the prices are extremely reasonable. We would definitely buy from John again.

My personal library always suffered from bowing bookshelves made out of cheap particle board. I commissioned John to make two pitch fork bookcases, and they turned out phenomenal! Great price for high quality craftsmanship. Highly recommend!

I purchased three (3) bookcases from John and his team in January of 2018. They were delivered on time with zero difficulties and - my goodness - these cases. They are simply exquisitely crafted. My appreciation for them grows each time I see them. I am soooooo pleased with the purchase and the quality of the pieces. I enjoy showing them off to people whenever I have guests and I fully expect them to last, well, probably for the rest of my life. Fantastic work and I cannot recommend the Bookcase Store more highly.

This bookcase is a work of art, I just love staring at it. The craftsmanship is amazing and the shop is just wonderful. They gave us a discount because somebody else had canceled their order for the bookcase after it was already completed (and they didn’t even charge them for it!). I love this shop and will be returning for all my bookcasing needs.

The Bookcase Store represents everything that was ever great about Austin, and arguably, the United States of America. Whether you're a grown-up looking for a decent set of shelves made from real materials or a college kid with too many textbooks and a pocket full of mom and dad's money, for God's sake come buy as many shelves as you need, and then a couple more to give as gifts. Because once this place is gone, so will be everything that was ever great about this city, and arguably, the United States of America.

My boyfriend and I came across The Bookcase Store driving down Guadalupe one day. I initially thought the store would have nothing for me, as I certainly wasn't in need of a bookcase. The smell of wood and the big dogs drew me in, and the next thing I knew John (the owner) and I were deep in conversation about the sewing table he would be making me. The selling point was really his suggestion of making it a yard wide to help with my sewing. Sure enough, he built me the most beautiful table that I am certain I will have forever. I love that the store is houses in two small homes, that they have a stock (from which my boyfriend bought a beautiful bookcase) and pretty much anything you can imagine, John will build for you (within reason of course). Even once he learned that the wood we originally discussed wasn't available in the width I needed, he sourced a WAY nicer wood for me (curly maple) and even once the table was done, gave me the option to say I didn't like it. It was beautiful and there was no way I was walking away from my custom made, beautiful table (that was really reasonably priced). I already have dreams of all the coffee tables, nightstands, and bed frames that John can build me. I couldn't be happier!

Excellent in every respect: the craftsmanship and customer service are superlative. Yesterday I purchased four 84" x 36" bookcases, having just relocated to Austin from NYC and being in need of many, many feet of shelf space. (My Ikea Expedit and Billy units were quite badly damaged in transit, and on discovery of the Bookcase Store I came to wish I had sold them before moving, rather than paying a moving company to transport their weight.) Around the time of our move I spent many hours on bibliophile talkboards reading about bookcases and shelves (and childproofing them) and researching which (if any) big-box stores sell decent quality ones that won't tip over on to a toddler (answer: none!) -- this turned out to be a waste of time because the quality and safety level of those made by the Bookcase Store are FAR superior to anything you could buy and assemble out of a box. (NB: many big-box store bookcases/shelving units are not made to support the weight of books.) Plus, the Bookcase Store's prices are very reasonable, especially given that they will last at least at lifetime: basically, the value for money is extremely high (I cannot directly speak to the quality of the staining/painting because I wanted plain pine). I made an initial visit to John to check out the store and then a second visit two days ago (late afternoon) to place an order (I need to get hundreds of books out of moving boxes asap so that the apartment can feel more set up) -- John delivered the four cases by 8pm the same day. I now have 6+6+6+7 non-sag (YES!) shelves of 36". I am happy to recommend this local business very highly indeed. Basically, I could not have wished for a better and more hassle-free solution to the shelving problem that my book collection presents!

Fantastic place! So glad my wife found it. Quality craftmanship at a price that beats most big box stores particle board bookshelves. John was awesome and very helpful. We will be buying all of our stuff from him from now on.

I can see why everyone has given this store 5 stars. From the moment I walked in the store to the moment the bookshelves were left at my apartment, I knew I would not regret having my bookshelves made by the amiable and passionate John. His friendly demeanor and attention to detail in his work is the reason I'll go to him in the future when I run out of shelf space.

Book cases are well made and they look terrific in office. I would buy from this store again.

They will build your own designs or design one for you...and at the same cost of their stock items.
