The food and atmosphere were great. Our server, Chris, was very attentive and did a very good job of explaining the menu options and making recommendations. He took the time to quickly provide samples of a couple of wines so we could choose. I would definitely recommend it, and it's worth the drive to Pepper Place.

This place was obscenely delicious. The atmosphere was relaxing and nicely decorated. Jake T really took care of us and answered all of a questions with enthusiasm. We highly recommend the beef fat candle, the burrata, and the roasted peaches! The other items we ate were very delicious too but these were the stand outs.

Awesome food! We loved all the 5 dishes we ordered. Paella, ceviche, empanadas, roasted potatoes, and flan. Service was efficient and friendly! Will come back.

We went for our anniversary and it was near perfect. The staff is accommodating & attentive without being pushy. The cocktails were tasty and interesting. And the food was incredible. We ordered several small plates and each was original and flavorful. We did not hold back and still spent under $200. Highly recommend!

This fantastic restaurant comes from Birmingham Chef Chris Hastings. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable. A large wood fired oven greets you as you enter. The plates are for the most part "Tapas" style. We enjoyed a variety of dishes and were very pleased with everything! Not only will I gladly return, I will recommend it to visiting friends and family so as to highlight some Magic City quality cuisine.

I regret not taking more pictures during my visit. The dishes were plated as beautifully as they tasted. The beef fat candle was both captivating and delectable. The sheer novelty of experiencing a beef fat candle is unique, and I haven't come across it elsewhere to my knowledge.

As for the rest of the menu, the bone marrow is another appetizer highlight, although it wasn't available during my previous visit. Nevertheless, the hanger steak and scallops I ordered were exceptional. I would gladly order them again.

What makes this place even more special is the joy of sharing and exploring dishes with others at the table. It fosters a sense of togetherness and culinary adventure that elevates the dining experience.

Beyond the food, the drinks served were equally impressive, complementing the overall dining experience. The ambiance of the restaurant was inviting, providing a comfortable and warm setting to enjoy the culinary delights.

In conclusion, Chris Hastings' OvenBird is a must-visit destination for anyone who appreciates inventive cuisine and a welcoming atmosphere.

This is my favorite restaurant in the Birmingham metro, and for a plethora of reasons. First and most importantly, the food stands out as unique and inspiring. All the flavors and textures are there, and the majority of the dishes are unique to OvenBird. The service is always spot on and fantastic. And the atmosphere and comfyness of the bar area specifically is so special.
When I want a meal for a special occasion, or just something unique, this is where I go.

Also, don’t sleep on their cocktails and wine list. Though smaller, that wine list is absolutely killer and has some extremely special features. My most recent experience was with a Montenegro-Spanish blend they have. Absolutely outstanding in its own right.

If you haven’t gone to Ovenbird yet, you’re missing out on one of the best experiences in the city.

Excellent place for a group dinner. Food was top notch, especially the paella and fideos were exactly like high level restaurants in Spain would prepare them. The candle is awesome and one of the tastiest things I’ve had in a while. Their basque sagardo (northern Spanish cider) import tasted exactly as it should. And drinking wine from a perón is always fun - especially with people who’ve never tried it. The place is a bit pricey for the quantity you eat, but we were not left hungry and for the quality, it’s worth the money, especially for an occasion. The waiter was also very nice and attentive and he explained all the plates when my friends didn’t know what to order. Would certainly come back.

Really great dinner here with a lot of options for vegetarians. It was very reasonably priced, and we loved the diversity of items available. Our server was very present and helpful, and we felt very well taken care of. I recommend the gulf fish and tomato salad!

Went here for the first time this saturday, was promptly seated at our reservation. Our server jada was great and gave us great recommendations for our drinks and dinner that we both enjoyed. Food was great
Great conversation from the cook, konnery, who was able to answer all my questions I had and seemed to do his job with ease at the same time.
Sitting at the bar felt almost like a show with the wood burning oven and amazing food coming from all angles. Overall an amazing experience not a single complaint. Will be returning

Delicious food, intimate setting. Great snapper, and gotta try the beef tallow candle! Waiter Chris took excellent care of our party of 7 that incl 2 kids and 94 yr old great-grandparent.

I've always had a pleasant experience when dining here. Extremely unique tapas style menu items that focus on sharing. The experience it's is worth the trip alone, which is why my wife and I opted to have our rehearsal dinner here. It was perfect from the moment our party entered the door. Highly HIGHLY recommended.

Great place! Love the decor and ambience. The food is all delicious. We had the scallops, steak, and roasted chicken. For dessert, we had the apple crisp. All were excellent. Drinks were great too. Both the indoor and outdoor seating were very nice. Our waiter, Chris, was amazing and super friendly. I would highly recommend this place!

Great atmosphere and food, but what really made our night was the service. Just attended a wedding reception and although they didn't have vegan food prepared, a cook (a guy with glasses and a dark beard, I believe named Abner?) went out of his way to prepare my wife an entire plate of delicious vegan food. He didn't have to do that, but he made sure my wife had something delicious to eat that night and it meant the world to us.

One of my favorite restaurants. The entire experience is amazing. Super cool building, amazing staff, and the food is next level good. It is a small plate restaurant, so be prepared to order between 4-7 plates to split between you an another person. The beef fat candle, bone marrow, and chocolate cake are just a few of the amazing dishes there we had and loved.

Checked this place out on a cold evening, sat at the bar and the servers were very welcoming and friendly to many of my questions as it was my first time. I am a big foodie from Chicago, so I do have a higher expectation for tapas. I give the food four stars, but up the entire experience to five for food service, friendly staff, and most important the awesome owner and chef. He cared enough to stop by and say hi—restaurant owners don’t do that anymore so it was nice to experience that again. And on the side note I noticed him being very encouraging to his staff, it seemed one was just starting out. I respect a good working environment.

Great place to eat. Did not have a reservation and got a seat rather quickly. Went out with some friends for a birthday dinner. Had a tempranillo, charcuterie, emapañadas for starters. The house made mustard and the honey was great on the cheese and meats. The empañadas were good, meat was a tad underseasoned, but still good. For the main shared tapas, we had the scallops, roasted chicken. The wine for the main courses was an albariño from riajas baxis. The server was great and had a general understanding of the wines. These were fantastic. For dessert, we had the Madeira and branded style creme brulée. The wine choices were great. Good experience from start to finish. Server respected out space and time there. Would certainly go again.

Wow! If you like small plates to share and enjoy trying many different dishes, this is perfect place nestled in downtown Birmingham. We had the bone marrow served in the bone, a delicious Beef Fat Candle (a beefy flavored consomme), the Peruvian Chicken and a few different wines. The food was definitely a five star, but the waiter brought the overall score down to 4. He wasn't very attentive or knowlegable. Very nice dining experience.

We went for our anniversary dinner because we had been for brunch and enjoyed it. Everything tasted divine. The bone marrow was our favorite. We also had the empanadas, melon and ham salad, the spit roasted duck, and finished with the seasonal shortcake. My wife LOVED the honeysuckle macerated peaches on the shortcake. Service, starting from placing a reservation up to paying for the check was quick and very good. Thanks to Dylan and the others, who made sure we were taken care of.
