Boxcar Bar

Great place for dinner. We had dinner with friends and everyone enjoyed the food and service. Diverse menu, yummy turkey burger, seared tuna appetizer was also great. Generous wine pours and attentive staff.
Only complaint was folks were a little too eager to take our plates off.
Apple blueberry cobbler was really good with a large ice cream scoop, warm fruit and crunchy top.

I take the train from Short Hills to New York a few times per week. When I look at this building I'm not thinking about a bar or a restaurant, I'm thinking, "this is where I have to go to get to work". I'm thinking, "this just looks like a train station that was built a century ago and was converted into a bar and restaurant for the sake of modern times". That being said, I do see people in here on cold early what, drinking coffee and whatnot. I do not think that the early morning activity is in any way affiliated with this review. I'm talking to all you people who have to get to New York for work. As far as my review for the "Boxcar Bar", The food was good and the drinks were good and the service was okay. It's a bar with food. Don't expect anything special, but it should meet your expectations. I live in Springfield so I'm happy this place is close for the evening hours. They close relatively early. Try it out. I would come here again and again. As long as it's AFTER work... you know what I mean.

We came to this place to enjoy some drinks with friends and it was so lovely. They had live music and a great atmosphere. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner who was such a great guy who went above and beyond for us. We definitely overstayed our welcome and were there entirely too late, but instead of kicking us out the door they made us feel even more welcomed and even cooked up some late night bites. Highly recommend this establishment and can’t say enough positive things about the management.

Top notch service and the food was great. We thought the friendly, well-trained and competent waitstaff was unique for restaurants these days too. Highlights were the roasted chicken, aroncino and the Manhattan cocktail I ordered was very good. The train station setting is a cool novelty. We'll definitely return.

What about awesome concept for a restaurant, there is a bar and a few tables on one side of the building, and when the train station closes they turn the other half into a dining room. Very cool, and they have plenty of outdoor seating as well. Great bar with local brews on tap, and a very good bourbon selection. The food was amazing. The loaded tater tots, wings, pizzas, burger and fries were all excellent. The staff was second to none, attentive and informed about what they had to offer, and they couldn't have been friendlier. You won't be disappointed here!

Last night my wife and I went to have dinner. The food was absolutley delicious, and the service was outstanding. The prices were extremely reasonable, considering the quality of the food. This is a hidden Gem. Nice cozy and quiet atmosphere. Small place but spaced out enough where you are not on top of the other guests. Shawn and Nicole have done an excellent job. We'll be back!

WOW, WOW, WOW. The best dinner and drinks we’ve had in a while. Super attentive staff and the owner is on premises checking in on all his guests. The seasonal cocktails and craft beers were great. Crystal our server had great suggestions and checked on us several times. Super fresh ingredients and house made.. everything! Mahi mahi tacos and station burger did not disappoint. The loaded tater tots were some of the best we had and they were huge.

Wish that we lived a little closer so this could be a mainstay for us but we’ll definitely stop in next time we’re in the area. Thank you Sean for a great evening!

If you’re looking to enjoy a nice meal outdoors or grab a drink with some friends after work, this is the place to do it. There’s live music most Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Nice drinks, appetizers, and mains! Staff is very friendly as well.

Service was fast efficient and food tasted great and cooked just like we asked for. Drinks at a decent price and plenty of space to listen to the band and we had big fun. Recommend as a place to visit for sure. And the train is literally right there.

Unique restaurant, located in the Short Hills train station. We are always welcomed and greeted like family. The pork chops are really a must.

I had such a wonderful dinner here! What a clever set up for the restaurant by incorporating the benches and train station ammenities! The food was amazing (cauliflower appetizer,yum) the service so warm, friendly and attentive, the music perfect! Can’t wait to go back! Get there!

My wife and I got a work apartment nearby for when I have to be in NYC. Found the Box Car about a year ago. Have come here at least 15 times in the last year. We love this place.

The food is great! Fresh and simple. Pizzas are excellent. Everything is locally sourced and tastes excellent. Awesome atmosphere.

Sean is great, and the servers are all wonderful fun people!

I had a birthday party here a few weeks ago. I can honestly say that I had the best time with my friends. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience on the night than the one I had. I will definitely be coming back here in the future for events. Thank you for having us.

This place is amazing! Such a cute spot located at an active train station. The new chef is fantastic and made it a point to take special care of us, as did the rest of the staff. The wings were AMAZING. Perfectly flavored and crispy, just the way I like them. I ordered the lobster roll and my boyfriend ordered the burger, both were so good right down to the fries and chips. The atmosphere here was nice and lovely, with great live music and a happy staff. 10/10 would go again (and again, and again!)

Absolutely love that my friend introduced me to this spot. Casual clever train station interior. Simple menu - lots of burgers and not crazy expensive. Good drinks. Love the owner who sends a personal reservation link after a visit.

Absolutely one of the best meals we have had in a very long time. The food was delicious, the drinks were delicious and the service was great. We will be returning customers for sure and can’t wait to bring our friends to enjoy our new favorite spot.
