I've been to the Fort a number of times over the years and always enjoyed it. The location is lovely and the ruins are fascinating when you consider the reasons for their construction. This visit was most pleasant because the day was warm and gentle for mid winter, just a light breeze and modest swells on the sea. I spent 45 minutes walking and was fortunate to see a rare vagrant bird, the beautiful spotted towhee who's been around more than 3 months. It should be in Mexico but lucky us!

Super beautiful place. Even though they charge $20 for entry, it is totally worthy because they maintain the place well. All year around dog friendly is the best part, highly recommended!!

we love the ocean kayaking, pier, playground, benches, grassy area. The bathrooms can seem far away with a child with you but otherwise we love it here.

On the bay side (actually, the river side, but it might as well be a bay if you think about such things) you will find rocky beaches - with some nice strands of good sand. Very nice accomodations - trails to walk around - play areas for kids - etc. Dogs are officially allowed on leash - and you MUST P.U.P. (Pick Up the Poop!!!), but a local secret is that the park is closed until 10 AM and before that time nobody is watching whether your dog is on leash or not. It is an excellent spot to find calm salt water (no surf) for wading or swimming.

I think this page is for the gatehouse and not the park. I may be wrong but I think the gatehouse is WW2 era. You can find my other images on the actual Fort Foster map page.

Warning. Walking in is now $20 per person. Even children. Car load for 20 is way better. I love this place. Rocks to explore. Old forts. Try to catch low tide.
