Best place for seafood! Their seafood is very fresh. If you want lobster, you may need to order one day before so they can buy from market for you. Shrimps are highly recommended, juicy!

The food here is amazing! This is my 3rd visit and I've been fortunate enough to come at the right time where it is not busy and the food quality seems to have that extra care. During my 3rd visit, the dishes my group had were Spicy Tofu, Bok Choi, Spicy Scheuan Fish, and the Sweet and Sour Spare Ribs. Everything was amazing. I'd definitely keep some dishes to myself if I wasn't in a group 🤣

Absolutely loved this place! They have the biggest dumplings I've ever received from a restaurant. The soup is amazing! The restaurant is small but beautiful inside and staff are extremely helpful and friendly! I will definitely be going back!!!

Hunan East has a secret menu with more authentic Hunan cuisine. Attached are some of the items. I recommend the frog legs and snow pea pod sprouts

The best Chinese-Chinese food in Ohio. Baby Bok Choi is the dish. Fresh everyday or they will not serve it. It you cant read the Chinese menu, just ask for recommendations with your favorite items, ie, chicken, tofu, whatever.

I’ve been eating here for years. It tends toward the Chinese American type of Chinese food but that’s fine for me! The staff is always nice. Good prices and nice portions. I have no negative thoughts about this fine establishment.

Ask for the Chinese menu ("picture menu"). Some amazing dishes. The best Chinese restaurant on east side if you open to finding some new favorites.

Hunan East hold a special place in my heart. My whole family would eat there since I was very young and the food is always delicious and cheap.

Much of the menu leans American-Chinese UNLESS you ask for the BIG menu. The little yellow take-out menus are TINY in comparison to the big menu!

The staff is always happy to serve us traditionally made food if we asked! My adoptive parents are not Chinese, but the staff was always so warm and kind to my family as my parents explained that they were trying to find places with traditional food for my sister and I to try. They start off all dishes (even the ones marked spicy) as pretty mild compared to what was explained to me as "Hunan spicy" if you're adventurous!

The food is well-priced and you get HUGE portions. I no longer live in Cleveland but I always make a point to stop by Hunan East to get lo mein, general tso's, steamed dumplings with a rich meaty filling and thick-chewy dough, and see the same wonderful and hardworking owners.

Awesome!! The food is delicious and healthy! You definitely get your money's worth!! Orders are taken quickly, the wait time is precisely what they inform you. The employees are always happy to see you and they welcome you like family. I ordered the vegetable fried rice, it's the best in the city. Highly recommend!!

Family run. Outstanding dishes not typically found in the stereotypical Chinese restaurant. Check out their picture menu book. It's the thickness of a phone book. Lots of good things not on the regular menu.

My favorites are the sautéd pork chops or uniquely, the smelts. Ask for some hot pepper sauce on the side for the rice.

We usually order off the picture menu. Tonight we got General Chicken and Hunan Bean Curd. Both were solid choices. Food was ready in 15min.

I've been enjoying their food for years! Their dishes are amazing, especially their fish and their beef dishes (I say this because I can't stop ordering their fish and beef dishes lol)--and what's more, they offer such generous portions for all their meals! The staff there are wonderful people, too!
One thing that really makes this place stand out so much compared to any other Chinese restaurant in the area is how they prepare their dishes so well. Sure there are places in Mayfield and Lyndhurst, but if you're looking for restaurant-quality dishes both when you sit in and eat as well as when you order takeout--go for the sure thing at Hunan East!!

Probably our favorite near-home, local Asian restaurant, we’ve dined at Hunan East, and gotten take-out, for several years. The first thing to know is that they have two menus, the American-Chinese and a Chinese picture menu. For a more authentic Asian food experience, ask for the picture menu. With one exception, we’ve really liked everything we’ve tried, which is more items than not on the menu.
Taste is individual, so I won’t recommend “a best dish,” but they are good at what they do overall. It says something positive about their food that a large part of their clientele seems to be Asian, and have been around a number of years. The owner and staff have always been very friendly too-boot. I’d recommend giving them a try — or two.
