Wife and I were in Gonzales for a wedding and decided to spend the morning in Baton Rouge. After checking out the different museums on maps, we decided on the Capitol Park museum, and boy, was it a good choice. We had a great time checking out the exhibits and reading about the history and people of Louisiana. Other reviewers say it is only good for an hour but we spent nearly 3 and still had to rush through some of the exhibits upstairs in order to make the wedding on time.

As a native of Cincinnati, it was very intriguing all of the history I learned. Three floors of LA history. Great afternoon for a family adventure.

How did I not know about this state run museum before? I was looking at things to do in Baton Rouge and this came up. Other places nearby seemed more popular, like everyone goes to the more popular places. Reasonable admission prices. I came on the last day of the rotating display that was the DC Mardi Gras. Amazing. Just so much to look at! Come! Take a look around! You won't regret it.

This place is really a hidden gem. The exhibits are incredibly well done. Lots of color, facts, could easily spend four to five hours in here if you wanted to read and do everything. We spent about an hour and a half on the first floor and an hour on the second floor. We basically grazed the second floor because we were starving, but that just means I get to go again! The mythology exhibit was fantastic, as well. That also took a while to go through.

My boyfriend and I visited the museum on a Thursday which gave us ample time to linger at each exhibit and just relish the history and time we spent learning about this great state. We have been here for two n half years working and travel nationwide but absolutely love the rich history of Louisiana. If you have a chance take the time to stand still and learn.

We loved this museum!! Just wish we had more time. We were late because of traffic and only had two hours. Needed another half hour or more!! All the exhibits were so bright, educational and easy to read. Had so much to look at.

A great place to host functions from public forums to wedding receptions, with the state's capitol building in close view and access. Marvelous!

What an amazing place! So much to see.. You should definitely give yourself a few hours, this is not a quick tour. But it's worth it! And thank you to Aubrey and Marian for the visit and all the information. Much appreciated!

Really cool place to visit. There was a lot of information on Louisiana from the foundation of the state to the music and the impact the state has as a whole. I was blown away seeing the artifacts from Louis Armstrong, amazing to see history that up close and personal. The most amazing part was seeing the hearse that carried Dr. King. I stood there for at least 5 minutes just in awe at how close I was to someone so important to our history. A truly humbling experience, and that is an understatement as I really don't have words to describe the power I felt there.

Beautiful warm sunny January spring day. Flowers blooming, live oaks, dead pines. Peaceful but a constant hum from the highway.

If I hadn’t gone there, I wouldn’t never knew Louisiana had a long history. The museum is attractive and informative. They perfectly packed the history to be easy to understand even for my 7 yr old son.

Two floors museum. First floor - history of Louisiana from French time to the modern and exposition covering whole economic diversity of the state and the second floor is abundant presence of the different cultural phenomenas of Louisiana. Different regions, different aspects: from voodoo culture and jazz funeral to Mardi Gras and different variety of music.

Sorry for many words, but the place is amazing, must see.

Visited this local museum with my children. While there we took photos. One photos was used in The Advocate Newspaper to my surprise on the next Saturday. The scenery is spectacular. My daughter snapped multiple pictures to commemorate my 40th Solar Return.
