Matherne's Market at 440 on Third

Was looking for a nearby market to buy some fresh fruit and some other items to eat a quick dinner at the hotel and Matherne's was perfect. It was a Friday evening and the drive was only 10 minutes from our hotel and since it was the evening, downtown parking was not difficult and we actually found free street parking.
They had a wide variety of items for a small city store. We found fresh cut-up pineapple and watermelon, hummus and pita chips, refrigerated Panera brand soup to heat up in the microwave, and some fresh sushi and some bottled beverages.
Prices were not that bad considering we were shopping in a city market in downtown Baton Rouge, just a little bit more expensive.
You can also take a quick walk over to the Mississippi river before leaving the downtown area.
The store is very clean and safe and it actually has a huge wall safe in the store so this building must have been a bank at one point.

Excellent variety of items. They seem to have a little bit of everything. All the staff was really friendly as well.
I enjoyed their wine selection and the sushi I picked up was good. They also have a salad bar, fresh sandwiches and good prices. I will definitely be back.

Love this grocery store. It may not carry everything, and the prices may be a little high, but the staff and convenience more than make up for it. The entire team, from management to the very last hourly employee, they are simply amazing.

Friendly service and reasonable prices, we stopped for the breakfast buffet 4 days in a row.

Fresh Caesar salad 🥗 of my choosing was worth the visit. Definitely a wonderful selection of fruit in a bowl. Superb 👏🏾

Great place in downtown. You can find anything you want in a grocery store. Very large deli

Staple of downtown used to be a bank and they store the wine sectioning in there. Grab breakfast there is damn good and reasonably priced

I love Matherne's! Staff is unfailingly polite and friendly and helpful. I'm frequently downtown and need to grab a quick hot lunch. Matherne's has a great lunch counter, and you can customize your order. Great, too!

Stopped in to grab a quick poke bowl and some fruit for lunch. The sushi and poke bowls are always fresh and delish here. The store is always clean and organized. Staff is very friendly and knows where everything is.

Matherne’s Market downtown has the best liquor selection around! I drive all the way from Walker to see what they have in stock, and I am never disappointed. Just this week they had a lot of Eagle Rare -barrel pick, hurry to Matherne’s grab you a bottle, and check out their amazing selection while you’re there, and everything else in the Matherne’s market downtown has to offer

A bit higher than a Walmart but you are paying for location and the major stables you need. I regularly find great deals on meats and on sale groceries here. You can be in and out in less than 5 minutes with a super quick check out

I work downtown and Matherne's is my lunch place most days. Great salad bar. Hot breakfast and lunch cafeteria style. Food is good southern fare most days. Nice wine selection. Awesome cookies.

This is one of the best places in town for wine. The management team has put together all the popular labels and offer some great prices.

This is the grocery store that I frequent most often for lunch. It is located in Downtown Baton Rouge.

Hot cooked quality meals are served daily. The always fresh salad bar is the attraction for me.

Matherne's harkens back to a by gone era of family own grocery stores that caters to customers. They sell an unique variety of products tinged with local goods. They have a butcher as well as freshly cooked lunches and dinners. The wine room has a great extended selection. There is also a cool bistro area. You will enjoy the cool atmosphere while shopping.
