Excellent food and super fast service! Our food was ready, almost before we even got done ordering! It was hot and delicious. The dessert is amazing too. Portions were perfect and price was great.

Hickory Park is beyond just an eatery, it is almost an attraction by itself in Ames. We loved their special blend of rustic charm and welcoming warmth.

The service was casual but great. In the realm of the BBQ flavors, it may not be my number one. However, with their very resonable pricing, feel, and ambience, you might as well do yourself a favor and give them a shot when you're in this part of the town.

Had a great experience here. Wait time was less than quoted, server was awesome. Gave great recommendations and checked on appropriately.

Got the turkey sandwich, great flavor. Cookie dough shake was SO good.

Hickory Park is an iconic BBQ restaurant in Ames IA. Many use it as the Iowa BBQ standard for "good" ribs.

And a good meal at Hickory Park is never complete until you have your ice cream dessert 🍨. They have a big list of sundaes, malts and ice cream confections.

This restaurant is prepared for the big crowd, so don't let a full parking lot scare you away.

If you visit Ames IA, make it a point to stop in and get some BBQ, you won't be disappointed!

First time here. With FFA in town it was crazy busy. The staff did fabulous, food outstanding. Management also appreciates the Motor Coach drivers.

The building and decor are very welcoming and comforting. Lily was our waitress. She was so fun and informative and didn't rush us. We ordered onion rings and four meat platter. We tried all the sauces likingbthem all. We didn't have time to order ice cream, but the menu was enough to bring us back.

This place was pretty great! The size of the place is the first thing you'll notice. There's a reason for that. Once you walk inside, you could spend a long time looking at all the decorations on the wall. The food was great. We had a great server and all employees we saw, looked like they had the same friendly demeanor.

Really wanted to try one of the 1000 (slightly exaggerated) types of ice cream they offer but goodness with the portions of the food, I couldn't. But I'm not complaining because the food was great!

This place is great! The portion sizes are very large, and the menu is absolutely huge! They have an ice cream menu as well, with 20-30 options! I really liked the ambiance, the restaurant is housed in a renovated train station and it's really neat looking! There is often a wait here, especially on the weekends, so come early or be prepared to wait. Loved it, will return.

Hickory Park is a staple to the Ames community and has been a well established business for as long as I have been visiting the Ames area (20+ years). The facility accomodates a large number of diners and depending upon the day of the week, meal time, and other activities happening in town this establishment can get quite busy. Despite it's popularity, wait times to be seated are reasonable. Our group of 4 waited less than 10 minutes to get checked-in and be seated, and this was a Friday evening meal around 5:30 pm.

This was a first time dining experience for your children eating here. There is a large menu selection with lots of variety to select from. Our kids both ordered from the "kids menu" and my wife and I each ordered a dinner meal consisting of BBQ meats and two sides. My son likes to sample from mom and dad's plate and was very impressed with the mashed potatoes and gravey. Normally he won't eat mashed potatoes at home.

Overall, our dining experience was pleasant. Our wait staff was friendly and checked on us a few times during our meal despite the place being packed. Our order was correct upon arrival at our table and the food was hot (as it should be). Following your meal, they also have an extensive desert menu you can order from. The kids each got a scoop of ice cream, which was part of their ordered meal, and the wife and I shared a sundae.

Hickory Park has almost always been a positive dining experiencce for me. This time was no exception.

Amazing BBQ & dessert options...do I need to say more!?!?
I had the hickory park special which included BBQ chicken & ribs, with salad and macaroni as the side. The meat fell off the bone. Yum.

The best part of the meal was the entire page of ice cream options!

The meals themselves are really good - we had the saucy sandwhich which was BBQ pork, and the a sampler platter with chicken, ribs and a really flavorful sausage.

But you HAVE to save room for the dessert. The apple pie milkshake was out of this world. The sundaes pictured are the small size.

And our server Kim was awesome - made sure we were well taken care of

Everyone who's anyone knows this place. It's historic, iconic, and so many other words I won't bore you with. Food is always excellent, service is amazing, the atmosphere is what you'd expect for a place this big and this busy. Highly recommend getting here early if going on a weekend, but it's also a great place for lunch during the week.

I have been coming here my whole life! The food is great, the service is friendly, and the atmosphere is welcoming fun and very midwestern. Be prepared for a huge meal as the portions are big - save room for dessert!!!

I got a smoked meat platter and it was delicious 😋 I would recommend this place and I'm kind of sad I didn't go earlier because it was worth it. It's all old country styling inside that is reminiscent of a lodge. Really nice ambiance and great food and desserts.
