The IowaStater Restaurant

The place has a comfortable atmosphere. There were fresh flowers on the table and linen napkins. The lunch menu was limited but there was something for everyone. The French fries were tasty.

Had the Lane & Hammer Blue Cheese Burger with fries on the side. Very generous portions. I ate half the burger and took the other half to finish later. I enjoyed the meal and the staff were warm and friendly. It was a bit cold in there during the day compared to when I visited the bar the previous night, but it was manageable.

We travel for dance competitions, for the last 14 months we’ve had a new edition that travels with us. On the morning of Saturday, April 6th, 2024 we had a great experience, we encountered a server named Erin, who went above and beyond, and was the first person to acknowledge our baby, in the hustle and bustle of todays world. 10/10 would recommend this place to anyone.

Had my baby shower lunch here! Good prices for how fancy the food is! Waitress was lovely and accommodating. The cyclone wrap was delicious!!

Really impressed with the hospitality and dining experience overall, but the real gem here is Savanna. Got to experience their superb take on the Old Fashioned reimagined with Tequila and Mezcal. Perfect preparation and presentation that left me wanting more. Will be making a point to stop in again and linger a bit longer to see what other creations Savi has to share.

It has been a while since I have been there, about a year, but I have had breakfasts and dinners there quite bit over the years. Since I was staying at the hotel I would get breakfast buffet coupons and the buffet is great especially on the weekends when there is an omlette bar. My moms last birthday before she past away I ordered a pork loin sandwich (which are epic!), and they know I love, was so big is covered the entire plate, which is huge. I asked where the bun and toppings were and Adam the bartender pointed to look under the loin... It was so big it covered both parts of the buns, the lettuce, tomato slices, and the onion slices. The look of shock on my face had Adam and both line cooks laughing. I cut it in half, folded one half to put on the bun, which hung over the edges of the bun by 3 inches all the way around. I didn't just eat until I was full, I ate until I was tired. The other half made for a giant late night supper. I look forward to staying at Gateway so I can dine here again

What an experience. I did not go here for lunch or dinner, I stayed at the hotel and went here to get breakfast. It was a pretty average hotel breakfast, toast and fruit. Except that then a waiter came and asked if I wanted apple juice - and brought it to me in like a glass goblet. It's not every day someone hands you a goblet of apple juice at 8:15 in the morning. I have to give it 5 stars just for that.

Once upon a time when I went to I.S.U I worked here when this restaurant was called Summerfields and it is still one of my favorite memories. It was owned by the Holiday Inn so we got 15 dollar rooms when traveling as employees. Major Perk! I miss the little lobby bar and the windows overlooking the lobby but it is great to see the hotel adapt to the new times. It was great to be in my old stomping grounds and to show our kids a piece of my past. Great place to stay for All-State, great food and great IPA beer on tap!

We had breakfast here. The atmosphere was cozy and very clean. The service we received was excellent. Most importantly the food was really good. We ate the breakfast buffet. There was a person making omelets to order on the buffet. He made them exactly the way I make them at home. I was totally impressed. I definitely recommend eating here.

Very busy, but were great at getting us accommodated! Food was awesome. Highly recommend the Mac n Cheese, we added bacon and it was great! "D" was great as a host! Thanks again

THE BEST burger I've had. It's hand chopped, cooked to order ( hard to get these days) and quite simply the best. There are great types of condiments, but the flavor and texture of the beef shines. When you bite into the burger and it drips down your arm.....it can't get better than that.

We had a wonderful time here. The food was delicious and we had great service.

I had a small rehearsal dinner at the Iowa Stater before my wedding and was 100% happy with the meal, atmosphere and service provided. I had a hard time finding a nicer restaurant in Ames that had a private room available without cost, but I found the Iowa Stater and it worked perfectly. Food was great and service very professional.

This place is somehow not well known, at least based on the amount of people every time I've been there. But the food is consistently good, the service is good, the hamburgers are award winners, and they have a limited desserts selection but they are also good

We always have an enjoyable experience at The IowaStater Restaurant. The food was amazing and the service was outstanding. Our server Sierra was very attentive and awesome which made our dinner even better.

Great food! Corn Chowder is the best I've ever had. Friendly service and always make the customer feel welcome. Recommend staying at the Gateway Hotel to enjoy the atmosphere of this Ames esteblishment.

They got us in, a very busy time with a big group. Food was great, staff was friendly and attentive. We enjoy attending special dinners there.
