St. Joseph Hospital

Back in the good ole’ days, there was once an U.S. Air Force base in Bangor, Maine! When I arrived in September of 1967, I had only 3 years as a Medical Technologist in the military but, I loved helping the doctors and nurses aide the ill. I was only there a few days when I received a call from St. Joseph’s Hospital. A strong and demanding voice, on the other end, surprisingly demanded my laboratory skills for the following weekend! She laid out the schedule and salary! It was a one-sided conversation that ended with me saying “I’ll be there this weekend”! Many may not know her name but that was Sister Bernard in charge of the clinical laboratory! When I met her for the first time, she was part teacher, part strong armed, part religious guide and the rest was made up with pure love! Over the time I worked for St. Joseph, I met many of the nuns that handled the overall operations of the hospital. All of them were well- educated, driven beyond their physical limits, but always believed in the health of every patient! The time I spent working for St. Joseph helped and strengthened my skills for my military position at Dow AFB.

Well after being in this hospital for 6 days, I can honestly say the staff, goes above and beyond what their job description is, all of my nurses were so caring and attentive to my every need, even when there was a call bell in the same room going off again and again and again, the nurses made me feel like I was the only one that mattered at that point in time and the cleanliness of this hospital is by far the best, it smells clean, looks clean the house keeping staff does an amazing job. I feel a lot of patients take the staff for granted and treat them unkind and they are just there to help you. Not all patients but some I witnessed with my own eyes and this staff was so professional the entire time. I will have to be back here in 6 weeks and honestly I'm not dreading it because of the great staff and care I got!!! So thank a nurse and be kind it's not that hard and remember they are only human and have other patients as well so be kind and considerate and say please and thank you, with them. I had total knee replacement surgery at St. Joseph’s on March 27, 2024. I would like to strongly commend the St. Joseph’s Hospital Staff involved with the superb care I received there. RN’s: Amanda, Zak, and a lovely and most pleasant and competent nurse from Russia whose name, regretfully, escapes me at the moment. Also, not to gloss over the excellence of the meals prepared by the hospital kitchen whose ambassadors were always bright, cheerful, and ready to please. I could not have designed a better stay if I tried. The Surgeon Dr. Walsh, PA Misti Gueren, and staff of Downeast Orthopedics were incredible, caring, proactive and more like family than medical consultants. St Joseph’s follow up out patient PT and Nursing has been wonderful and seamless. No glitches!!! Speaking as a doctoral level researcher with a backround in Medical research and epidemiology, Everything associated with my care has truly been outstanding and am personally pleased to highly rate the treatment and care that I have received from St. Joseph’s and Downeast Orthopedics.

Very impressed with the nursing staff in the day surgery department. Elizabeth, Lynn and Sam assisted me during the procedure. I have been an RN for 30 years and can recognize staff that is valued and supported. My dismay is that I did not apply for a nursing position here.

I had to spend the night in the ED last Friday night and it was the smoothest hospital stay I’ve ever experienced! The nurses were super nice and listened to all of my medical history and concerns and the doctor/surgeon answered every single question I had and they all reassured me that everything would be okay! And they were right! Everything was okay! They made sure I was as comfortable as I could be in a hospital bed and kept giving me warm blankets without needing to be asked and propped my bed up and down when I was sleeping to make sure I was comfortable! They were also super reassuring to my fiancé who stayed by my side and answered all of his questions with details! Will always recommend this ED to everyone I know!

My 16 month old’s first emergency room visit. Staff was incredibly patient and kind. The nurse sent us home with a blanket he’s since become obsessed with.

Had a stress test today at St. Joe's on the 5th floor. Nuclear Medicine. They were so respectful and kind. A very positive experience. Thank you Ladies...🥰

I cannot thank the medical staff of this hospital enough. My husband is in the ICU and it has been 8 days now. The doctors have been extraordinary. The nurses have been absolutely amazing! The professionalism and expertise has been top notch. Both doctors and nurses have been kind and supportive with encouragement. They were genuinely concerned of my wellbeing as well. Not once did they get annoyed with all my questions. Not once did they leave his room without telling me what was being done and what to expect and at times they have made me laugh even though this difficult time. This is exactly how healthcare should be. Patients are not numbers and loved ones are afraid, distressed and in need of a shoulder to lean on. I will be forever grateful for these angels from heaven! Truly an amazing team

Redell, traveling CNA, was outstanding! She was very compassionate, always checking on my daughter and me (I stayed almost a week with my daughter in the hospital), ensuring our needs were met and more. Thank you Redell🥰

I was traveling from Wi and had to go to St Joseph ER. Although the wait in ER was long Everyone was exceptionally nice and Caring.
Every nurse on my floor I was admitted to was wonderful, Dr Vanadia was kind, and him, himself called my daughter after surgery. I can't say enough about the great staff at this hospital. I wish I could remember all my nurses names to give them a shout. Out!!. The The surgical staff was 5 stars as well.

I visited the ER a week ago. I was very impressed with the efficiency of all staff from intake to discharge. Two people who really need to be acknowledged are PA Jennifer Lynn Jenkins and Nurse Hailee. They both went above and beyond to keep me comfortable and informed of where things were at with testing and even the long waits.

Can’t say enough positive about this hospital. From the time we arrived in the ER, the treatment my husband received by the ER staff, his being admitted that evening, surgery the following day, and the excellent care he received during his stay at the hospital, and his follow up visit post surgery, his care was above and beyond our expectations.

I have a procedure done here and from check-in time until I was finished was the best care. Thank you. I hope the care stays good.

Me and my pregnant sister was on a road trip back to Ohio, She started feeling super unwell and that’s when We decided to stop. PA Adam Kaplan and RN Frida Are the BEST serving team we ever had. We are so thankful for having her walk out feeling way better.

My 76yr old mother is staying here at the moment, in the last few days she has been raving about how friendly and caring the staff is. She continues to go on and on about how good the food is. She really is impressed with experience at this wonderful hospital.

The level of care far exceeds any other hospital in the area. They have musicians from the Bangor Symphony come and play for their patients because they understand there’s more to healing than medicine. Love this vital alternative choice in care in our area.

Some of the best energy ive ever felt. (Dr Lex could turn a stone to jello with her amazing energy and smile), Security guards acting like real people, every nurse polite, they even allowed me to choose a different doctor. For personal reasons... If I found out they mentioned my name online for a decent reason, I wouldn't care. They have my permission to mention me online. Since I write poetry about my numerous visits

Just this week, my husband went in for a TEE. Beginning with the referral of Dr. Riker (Primary) to Dr. Qazi (Cardiologist) and each of their teams, they have been navigating a powerful health plan for repairing my husband's heart. Assessments, treatments, and continued remediation have been handled with expertise, sincere caring, and ongoing supports! We have nothing but praise for the quality of each experience throughout this process. THANK YOU EVERYONE!

I recently had surgery with Dr. Vanadia that required a hospitalization at St. Joes. I was so impressed with care I received on the 4th floor. I know the attention to detail by everyone helped me get home as soon as possible. I'm so grateful we have such a quality community hospital in Bangor. Thanks.

Went in for full mouth surgery, and a very kind doctor by the name of Sara helped me out so much! she had pink crocs and was in the pre opperation area, Sara should know who she is, thanks alot sara.
