The Blue Nile is an Ethiopian culinary oasis where the vibrant cultural decor and the tantalizing aroma of spices instantly transport you to the heart of Ethiopia. The exceptional service, characterized by a blend of five-star professionalism and genuine warmth, enhances the dining experience. The owner’s joyous personality adds a unique charm, making every visit memorable.

The food at The Blue Nile is a revelation. Each dish is an exquisite blend of flavors, so delectable that you’ll find it hard to stop eating even when you’re full. Authenticity is at the core of their menu, as confirmed by a friend from a neighboring African country, who praised the dishes for their genuine taste and quality. Dining at The Blue Nile isn’t just a meal; it’s an authentic journey through the rich flavors and traditions of Ethiopia.

Everything was satisfying... Food, service , and the overall experience of eating with just your hands . When we went they were completely full but it's definitely worth the wait . Will be back soon for another date 🙂

They also have some some nice things for sale, which I was very tempted to almost let my bf buy me a bracelet 😭😂

Tons of food! We only ordered one meat dish for two people and were stuffed half way through the portion. The house tea was delicious.

If you haven't tried Ethiopian food yet, now is your chance to try it! This place offers all you can eat vegetarian for one simple price, you can also add meat dishes a la carte.

Start your meal off with a hot Ethiopian tea, you won't regret it. It tastes sweetened, but it is all natural.

Before you start your meal, you get a hot towel to cleanse your hands. Everything is eaten with your hands, no utensils. Tear off a piece of bread (injera), scoop up a portion of lentils, ground peas, or cabbage and indulge in a taste of Ethiopia. We also like the salad (Timatim), this is also extra but nice to try it once if you haven't, it has a sour dressing type of taste that I like to cleanse my palate with between bites. I would compare it to having a slice of ginger between different pieces of sushi.

Our favorite meats are either the beef or lamb, both of which are very tender and flavorful.

End your meal by cleansing your hands with another nice hot towel and go home with your tummy full and happy! Don't be scared to eat with your hands, you won't be embarrassed, everyone else will be eating it too and will be having just as much fun as you are haha.

Shalom shramily, As you can see I’m in love with the Ethiopian culture it’s a vibe and I connect with it but that’s another story for my memoirs. Let’s get into this hidden ferndale gem. It’s Blue Nile of course, the aesthetics in this restaurant is absolutely amazing and it’s all you can eat which is great in this trying economy. But I rate this 9/10 only because they don’t have rice and beans but the veggies combo is the one and not the 2 for me being vegan/plant based they do have dishes for everyone even the carnivores in metro Detroit so if your ever in ferndale stop by and show them some love parking is great but it does attract a lot of people so go early as possible injera is your eating Utensil so get ready to indulge deep into Ethiopian cuisine. The customer service is as if your the royal family of Mekele if that’s a thing I’m not sure but as always enjoy and save me some…”

When you step inside Blue Nile you know you are in for a treat. The decor sets the mood and you can smell the spices in the air. Each meal comes with unlimited vegetable sides and you can add meat dishes ala cart. The beef comes in a lightly spicy sauce and fills your mouth with a warm and savory flavor. The staff is very friendly and are ready to make sure your meal is fantastic. If you haven't had Ethiopian food yet I don't know what you are waiting for.

A unique experience in metro Detroit. Wonderful food, staff, and atmosphere. The Ethiopian feast of 7 vegetarian "all you care to eat" dishes can be supplemented with a variety of meat dishes served and eaten in a communal manner. A crepe like bread is used to scoop up the food rather than the use of utensils. Our 14 year old loved it. We enjoyed the Ethiopian spiced tea with the meal which complimented the food nicely.

The Blue Nile is an experience with great food and a beautiful atmosphere. We took our kids ages 8 and 10 and they absolutely loved the food and the fact they could eat with their hands family style. We sat in the traditional Ethiopian set up which added to the fun and experience. We got all the meat options and each one was delicious and different. The veggie dishes were all wonderful as well where you don’t even need the meat. They are also gluten free friendly. My kids were asking how soon we can go back!!! Definitely give this place a try.

I am so glad that my daughter invited us to this nice Ethiopian restaurant for the mother’s day. It was my first time to try Ethiopian food. We ordered beef, chicken and veggies. They are all so tasty. I love the veggies there and can not stop eating it. We live in Novi. And We will be coming here soon again!

Amazing place to eat authentic Ethiopian food. We were running really late but they accommodated us with no issue and served us well past their closing time. The injera is so damn flavorful and the chicken is worth repeat visits. Wonderful place to eat as a group especially if someone is vegetarian. Spiced tea is highly recommended and the honey wine was interesting as well.

Bring your passport! JK, but you will be transported to Ethiopia the second you step through the threshold, from the scenery, music, servers' dress code, and, of course, the food.

i sadly, do not have any photos of the Blue Nile, or what i experienced, but let me try to convey with words as best i can the wonderous affair that greeted me. i used to live in Washington, DC, so frequented Ethiopian spots, since there was a plethora and since moving to Detroit have been craving some injera!! So when i drove passed Blue Nile i knew where i was talking my partner for date night.

We were not disappointed, but on the contrary, astonished not only to walk inside and feel like we had just stepped into North East Alkebu-Lan (Africa) but then to see that they had an all-you-can-eat option. AYCE was $18 a person, which is extremely fair considering the portions! We (or i mostly), enjoyed three plates of all their scrumptious, savory, delectable, warm, flavorful, vibrant, and amazing dishes. Next time i have a hankering for habesha, i know where i'm going!

Oh, and they have a delicious cinnamon tea!

Service was polite and prompt. Classy additives like a warm towel pre and post-dinner make your whole time at Blue Nile an experience. So turn off your phone and tune into the lovely vibes, soothing tunes, and delicious food, and bring some company to have a brilliant conversation.

I loved everything about this place! The servers were attentive, kind and had a soft spoken/gentle aurora about them.. it added to the feeling of comfort when we walked in the door :)
The decor added to the calming atmosphere and the food just sealed the deal for me. I'm in love with this place!

Delicious authentic Ethiopian food. We are so thankful Ferndale has this restaurant. We went for the first time Friday night and it got a bit busy, so there was a bit of a delay in service, but didn't take away from the experience. We will be coming here again!

Great atmosphere, service and food. The spicy chicken was delicious. We tried one of the tea and liquor cocktails and it was nice. Would go back and try the tea on its own and some honey wine. The meal was a bit more expensive but the decor is very unique with woven stands and low chairs. We ended up paying 30$ per person including drinks and chicken.

The range of flavors was outstanding, the service most excellent, and the option for a gluten-free tef Injera was ideal (and delicious!). The vegetable dishes which come with the standard feast were more than enough in terms of nutrition and flavor. We did order meat to go along with the veggies, but for me the meat was not necessary at all and did not improve the meal. The side of salad was also delicious and bright; I highly recommend that.

My first time eating Ethiopian food and it was fantastic. The food was so good they had me eating stuff I would normally not eat. The flavors were great. The atmosphere was incredible. They had both traditional and more American style sitting areas for eating. And they served hot towels before and after the meal for each individual. The service was outstanding. Extremely polite and attentive staff. Knowing it was our first time they wanted to make sure I was okay with everything. I loved it
