Wild Rumpus Books for Young Readers

Definitely stop when in Minneapolis. I’ve know about this quaint little children’s bookstore for over 25 years. Just stopped for the first time. Why did I never stop before!!! Books, vibes, cats, birds and chinchillas! Awesome!

Great bookstore. It's got a flavor and vibe for just about every age group. They've got live animals, books, toys, chairs and couches, and the atmosphere is great. Fantastic staff. Parking can get a bit dicey because of how busy that area gets and the store is a little on the tiny side but customers are empathetic and you make it work getting around in the bookstore. Lastly, prices are competitive with other bookstores and places like Target and Walmart if not more so. Highly recommend.

My kids and I absolutely fell in love with this place! It’s so whimsical and cozy. The staff there were incredibly friendly and helpful. One person was making their buttons at the counter and they were so kind and happy to show my son how it works, and another was quick to help us and knew immediately where the book my son was looking for would be. We could have stayed all day! We are already looking forward to going back.

Delightful, whimsical, thoughtfully stocked independent bookstore. Big fan of the year round spooky section and large multilingual section. Get books about little ghosties for the little ones in your life.

Visited on independent bookstore day and purchased a few books for my niece. Also grabbed an advance reader copy of a book for myself (free) which was an exciting bonus.

Primarily a bookstore for younger readers but adults will enjoy a walk through this shop too!

Most magical bookstore ever!! Will always have a special place in my heart. So whimsical and endless fun things to find. So cozy and welcoming. Very thoughtfully stocked with eager to help employees. You're never too old to enjoy a picture book!

This place was such a fond part of my childhood, a great way to get a kid to literally beg to go to the bookstore! The animals were always so cute and charming. The owners and staff are lovely. The vibe was magical when I was a kid and decades later - it still is!

I can't imagine a better kids or young adult book store. I have spent many, many hours here with my kids over the years. It's a place you feel comfortable in and want to just keep finding good books.

My one year old had an amazing time browsing the huge selection of books and meeting the animals that live at the store! We saw two cats, a pigeon, a cockatiel, two chinchillas, and a gecko. Such a fun place to visit and shop for books

This shop was steeped in a sense of childhood wonder and undeniable joy! Everything- the book collection, friendly staff, decor and animals- created a magical environment one could happily become lost in.

This place is amazing! If you have children (who aren't allergic to animals), they will lose their minds in this place. They have cats and a chicken roaming around, caged chinchillas, a ferret, rats, doves...It's a zoo/petting zoo and bookstore all in one. Warning that it's hard to park nearby and it gets busy on weekends, but otherwise a good time. The design of the place is something to see. A canoe forging it's way through the ice across the ceiling. The animal cages are in a wonderful little abandoned cabin that looks like you stumbled upon it in the forest. It's like you're in a book. They have a ton of books for kids and a small section of books for adults. Worth it to check out.

I grew up going to Wild Rumpus. There's just so much magic here. The people are amazing, the animals are even better, and they've never failed to get me the book I want in a timely manner. Best book store I've ever been to.

What a great bookstore. It's so imaginative especially with the broken ice and upside down canoe on the ceiling. It's very Whimsical for children with chickens in the store and little corners for them to sit in. Great range of books including lots by local authors as well. Well situated next to restaurants and toy shops so one could really make an afternoon out of it. Charming neighborhood.

Very wide range of great books. Toddler story time is the best. Heather and the other reader (I can't remember their name) are so engaging!!!! Thank you!

Great Book Store a lot of fun love that they have wild animals in there maybe not the best place to go for someone who has allergies to animals but all of the animals are friendly they have cats a chinchilla a live chicken a tarantula and I believe there's mice intentionally in the floor. Lots of good books and accessories for kids and adults mainly for children but if your parent that likes books you enjoy this location. They have standard pricing it's comparable to other kids bookstores I think they all are priced the same to be honest. The only thing that was bad about my experience was going out to my car and seeing that I got a ticket for expired tabs which was my fault cuz I didn't realize they were bad but if there's anything not up to code with your vehicle I wouldn't recommend parking out front of their store the cops around there are vicious LOL I also love the mini door they have at the store hope this helps someone.

Wild Rumpus is a great book store. Love the setup, the variety of books, the book related merchandise. Then you add great staff and fun animals to visit. Love going to their weekly Storytime! They work hard to make it fun and engaging for the kids.

What a sweet bookstore! Helpful staff, great selection, and a fun, interactive environment for kids. Make sure your little ones use the "mini door within a door" to come inside, and scout the place for the animals, cute nooks and spaces, and of course, wonderful books. There's truly something for every reader here. I didn't need any books for kids this time (I went with a friend who did need a gift for a child) and I still walked out with a couple of stories just too lovely to pass up, that might become gifts for kids at upcoming occasions after I'm done reading them myself...

Great experience for young readers. The store goes through great efforts to provide an inviting experience for children. Great selection. Eclectic atmosphere. Animals!

Fun and unique atmosphere, tons of great books, and a few neat sitting areas for kids and parents to sit and read together. We'll definitely be back!

This is a full book store with an excellent taste for detail. Bringing a young person here is sure to fill them with some kind of wonder that will inspire excellent nostalgia later on in life.

One of our favorite book stores in the Twin Cities! We live 30 minutes north, but still love making the trek. The selection and experience are always worth it.
