We needed a longer stop on our road trip so decided to skip the usual fast food and selected Route 66 Railway Cafe based on the reviews; in particular that they were quick and the reviews didn’t let us down.

This is definitely a reliable old fashion diner with plenty of comfort food choices. And, clearly the locals regular place. Customers treating each other warmly with a handshake or hug and sometimes with quick chat to catch up.

All of the staff welcome you, keep the tables cleared and clean. Food is fast, but not Just the usual fast food. Today was a cloudy/wintery day so even better that we found a place with comfort food. I had a Grilled Ham & Cheese sandwich with Sweet Potato Waffle fries and my husband had the Hot Beef Sandwich which was opened face and served with mashed potatoes with gravy and green beans. There is a large enough menu to find what will satisfy your stomach.

We finished our lunch with a hot peach cobbler. Yummy!

We travel through this area 3-4 times a year and wouldn’t hesitate to stop back in. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend stopping in for a bite to eat.

Listen, I travel all over the United States, and I can say with absolute certainty, that my breakfast here is one of the best I’ve ever had, bar none. From the road in parking lot, it does not look like much, but once you get inside, it’s a different ball game. It was very obvious that this is a local favorite, which is always a good sign. Most of the people seemed to know each other, but it was a pleasant surprise to see how kind they were to strangers like myself. My server was friendly and extremely efficient. She had my coffee to me quickly had taken my order, and had food on the table in less than 10 minutes. The green salsa that she recommended on my enchiladas was fantastic and they are not cheap with the cheese. The eggs were well prepared and the rice and beans were mouthwatering good. As I was on the road and not staying in Gallup, I was not able to try anything else, but I am considering routing through there again just to eat lunch or dinner and see if it’s as good as breakfast was. If you find yourself in Gallup overnight, I’m not sure you could do any better anywhere For breakfast.

The Route 66 Railway Cafe provided a memorable dining experience with its extensive menu and delicious offerings. From mouthwatering burgers paired with sweet potato fries and hashbrowns to satisfying grilled cheese sandwiches and cheese sticks, the food was nothing short of delicious. The cafe’s flexibility in offering breakfast from 8 am to 8 pm allowed for a leisurely morning meal, while the clean bathroom and friendly staff added to the overall positive experience. For food enthusiasts traveling along Route 66, this charming cafe is a must-visit. Truly feels like a hometown diner.

Excellent restaurant, I enjoyed the meal I ordered. Service was fast, price was far and restaurant was clean. The dining room is limited so it might need to wait a little if the restaurant is busy. I definitely will come back if I am traveling the i40

What a lovely classic diner with very fast service. I got the French Toast, and it was wonderful! Almost candied on the outside, soft in the middle and piping hot. The hash browns and sausage were great too. My dad really liked his breakfast burrito too

We are passing through gallup New Mexico and staying at a hotel down the street. We wanted a restaurant that was close and had great reviews. The Railway café did not disappoint. Incredible food, delivered very fast, exceptionally friendly staff all working very hard. Huge servings great prices. We can personally recommend the French toast, biscuits and gravy all the eggs were great the ham was very yummy. Bacon cooked perfection.

Quaint small restaurant, very popular with the locals. Had to wait in a crowded foyer for 40 minutes. However the food was worth the wait. They serve large portions. My friends shared a breakfast plate. Wait staff was friendly and helpful except for the young man who had a scowl on his face and didn't smile. I will go back. Highly recommend.

Ok ya'all, if you're ever in Gallup I highly recommend you stop by Route 66 Railway Cafe! It was delish! It had good reviews online so we though we'd try it for our last vacation breakfast before heading out of town. Pulled into a packed parking lot so we expected a wait, but no we walked in the door and were seated immediately. The service was amazing by everyone, including our waitress Val. Unlimited coffee refills, great options on the menu and the plates were packed. The food was so delicious. 5 stars for sure!

Ate here on a recent Route 66 trip. Had the Shortline Special. It arrived at the table within 5 minutes of ordering. I thought they brought the wrong order, but they didn't. Then I thought it couldn't be cooked well but it was. It turned out to be THE BEST BREAKFAST I HAD on Route 66. Especially the French Toast. This will definitely be a stop on my next Route 66 trip. My compliments to the owners and staff incredible!

Wait to be seated...quickly
Prompt pleasant service-
Order arrived with lightening speed and my coffee cup never saw the halfway mark.
Tasty huevos rancheros even if it was just a little bit soupy.
Crispy bacon was perfect.
Good atmosphere.
Good teamwork there- Even though the place was busy the teamwork is why my coffee cup stayed full.

Stopped off at this place to grab some lunch whilst passing by on the I-40 and glad we did. Great service, great food and good value - just how America used to be! And a great little spot next to the railway line for some train spotting. Highly recommended!

Don't get stuffed sopapillas. They don't seem to know what it entails. Sopapillas being stuffed.
That being said, this is a good place for breakfast.
Green chile cheese enchiladas, scrambled eggs, hashbrowns and a tortilla.
Also order a side of french toast.
Giant iced tea to drink.
Sometimes, when busy, you need to leave your name for a table.

This place is a true gem about three minutes off of I 40 at exit 22. All of the service staff was extremely friendly, however Stephanie our server was exceptional. The BNSF burrito is out of this world you get 3 eggs and 4 meats included for under $10. I got it with the green chili sauce and hash browns with cheese and sautéed onions. The meal was enough to fill me up for three days. I know it’s a very small factor but the unsweet tea was fantastic, never had to ask for a refill and was offered it to go cup. Truly top-notch service for a roadside diner. Breakfast served all day with a great lunch menu also. Don’t forget to get a cobbler, if you can spare the room or grab once ago as they are all great.

Yum Yum! And huge portions to boot. A must stop if you are in the area. The place was busy, but service was super fast. Food was reasonably priced with huge portions. Don’t leave without the cobbler! Excellent.

This place was really good, great diner food with large portions. I left stuffed and would definitely go back if in the area. Wait staff was great, after a water glass was knocked over, they just wanted to make sure everyone was good and immediately moved the party to another table.
