The County Grounds I've been a long time favorite place to get outside and get away from it all, in the middle of it all. Wildflowers dominate the hilly plains where long trails meander and disappear through the grass. From the top of Discovery drive and be gathering circle, you can see much over the distance. Trees at the Forest Exploration Center to the North and the old asylum wellness trails to the East can cover you and pull civilization that much further away. Expect to see a few dogs enjoying nature while on your hike; this has long been a favorite place for dog lovers to let their furry ones out for a run.

Love the trails. The elevation changes give you a nice view. Plus it connects to numerous other trails.

Lots of history on this soil and I'm so thankful this piece of land was preserved for anyone to enjoy. It's beautiful, especially when the sun is just about to set. There is plenty of parking because this is kind of a hidden gem, not a whole lot of traffic.

I've known about this trail (gravel, not paved) for some years, but this was my first time getting to experience it myself. These grounds hold years of precious memories to my family and I. Growing up in the late 80's to early 90's, these soil provided food for my family. This land used to be a community garden, a place we came to harvest and enjoy the outdoors. We played in the field, catching bugs, ran through the forest, walked the dirt paths, crossing the railroads to enjoy a swim at Hoyt Park. Those huge-old trees on the north side parallel to Swan Boulevard, I'm so glad they kept them! We used to play under those line of trees. It was a heart felt experience coming back here after many years.

If you want an out of city experience without going out of the city, this is a nice quiet place for a morning walk.

Great place to walk and run. There are wooded paths to explore and paths around two storm water basins. Total distance around the basins is about two miles. Many people bring their dogs there...most of whom keep them leashed. There are three-season rest rooms at Hanson Park Golf Course lodge.

This is a great space with multiple connected trails for dog walking, walking/hiking and running. Lots of dogs off-leash, the great majority of which are well mannered. Beautiful wild flowers. The tree line at the southern edge is inhabited by coyotes, so advise avoiding that area.

Love coming here with the kids to walk and let off some energy!! This is not for strollers, at all! Great trails for dogs as well! Lots to see and nice. Never run into people here and never overcrowded.

My girl and i went while it was snowing, it was nice. Met a couple people on the trials who were very nice. The leftover ruins make for nice pictures.

Great pool for the kids. A nice playground area. But we use the bike/ hiking path the most. It's a nice single track path that goes by the river and has some jumps in one location. The only downside is the broken glass at one or two locations on the bike path.

Great trails, Koda loves it there. Just be careful if your dog isn't good off leash. The park isn't fenced in. I know my dog when it's time to go he's not having it sometimes. So keep a toy or treats in your car just in case

Our family (Wifey, me and our 2 Boxers), had an Awesome day of Hiking and exploring here! Took some cool pics posing on a downed tree suspended above water. We saw a Massive wood burl that would make huge Beautiful tables if recovered. Great park, long trails, not too crowded. The Boxers enjoyed lots of off leash time since we were all alone.
If I didn't like you folks I wouldn't tell you about this cool spot! Just keep it for Ourselves!! Hahaa. Just kidding. Enjoy

The grounds were very nice. The event that brought us to those grounds was less than stellar and Im still in disbelief of the huge amount of disappointment we all feel. Praying everything works out. Would have liked to explore more of the area than we got to, but maybe for another time.

Love this walk. Both woods are beautiful and a lot of different wildlife. Even saw a juvenile bald eagle the other day.
