Rich, the store manager, had excellent gear knowledge and was friendly during our visit. We thoroughly enjoyed exploring the store, impressed by the diverse gear selection and the appealing store layout. Our specific needs for a waterproof National Geographic map and a waterproof phone cover were met seamlessly. Today's visit was a brief resupply stop off the AT trail. Last fall I was preparing for a climbing expedition in Argentina and Ecuador. I initially started looking online for climbing gear and clothing, but decided to try Walkabout Outfitters as a “one shop” source. Best decision ever!! Staff (Jason, Connie, Ellie, Sally, Et Al) were all super friendly, very knowledgeable and provided exemplary customer service. Jason spent many hours researching and procuring hard to find and specialized equipment for the expedition. Walkabout Outfitters is a rare find these days with a culture of excellent customer service. I highly recommend Walkabout Outfitters

I live in Virginia, but not near any of the Walkabout Outfitter locations. I like to support local/non-national companies, so I was excited to make an online order with Walkabout online. A day after I placed my order, someone form Walkabout called me to confirm my order. When my order was delivered, I also received a personalized note. I found this entire experience and customer service very pleasant. In the future when I need outdoor gear, WO will be my first stop before looking to any national chains.

It's the little things... I went in to make a simple purchase for cooking fuel and asked if the store sold AAA batteries. The friendly staff said they do not sell, but she gladly gave me a couple from their in store stock so I wouldn't have to make a separate stop. This is why I support local/business! You don't get this type of service at big box stores, TAKE NOTE!! Thank you!

We own property in Lexington on the Maury River we have been camping on for the last 15 years. Walkabout has saved us many times when equipment is forgotten, breaks down or we just feel like buying some new camping toys. They have a good inventory, a great staff and fair prices. I much prefer shopping at Mom & Pop shops!

I absolutely love Walkabout Outfitters! I've bought a wide range of things here over the years -- from summer dresses, to backpacking gear, to special orders (no shoes yet, but that might be next) -- and have never been disappointed. This is my go-to store for gifts for my wilderness-loving daughter. The space on Main St is gorgeous, and the people are always friendly and helpful. I almost can't believe we have such a fantastic outdoor outfitter here in Lexington.

I am an occasional shopper at Walkabout, but a very satisfied one (we're in our late 70s and don't get outdoors as much as we used to, particularly during the pandemic). The range of merchandise is not huge, but it is well-selected for quality, and they will gladly get something for you at another store. Returns are easy and without harangues. But most importantly, the staff is cheerful, helpful, courteous but not obtrusive--they make shopping at Walkabout a pleasant experience, always. Do shop here if you can during the pandemic!

We love Walkabout! My husband and I typically purchase shoes from there. The staff is very friendly and helpful! Our son and daughter-in-law always visit when they are in town! Their customer service is the best even during the pandemic!!!

I have had the pleasure of dealing with Walkabout Outfitter since the first small shop opened on Nelson Street years ago. GREAT for personal items, GREAT for special orders and GREAT for gifts. Do yourself a favor and go check them out. They are helpful, courteous and knowledgeable!

Walkabout Outfitter is the "little chain that could!" I live within an hour of four of their stores and have shopped at all of them. Every person who has ever waited on me has been highly knowledgable of the product line, and the people skills are outstanding.
And, in this difficult time, shopping at Walkabout on line has been a great experience. I have shopped through Amazon reluctantly off and on for many years. I refuse to pay them over a hundred bucks a year for "premium service." I've found that one does not always get the best quality from vendors you don'['t know.
Hands down, Walkabout sells quality stuff! Shoes, shirts, hats and more. And, I just purchased a cool shirt from Patagonia. Then I discovered a matching hat to go with it!
You don't need to go to a national chain. Walkabout has a strong service department. You items go in the mail promptly, and you get exactly what youi order.

Walkabout is one of our favorite stores to visit in Lexington. They always greet you with a warm hello and are the most friendly. We stop here first when looking for new outdoor gear. Their selection is compiled of quality brands who care for the earth and give back at the same time.

Anna at Walkabout Outfitters in Lexington was amazing and went the extra mile to help me out while hiking the Appalachian Trail. As the former owner of a small outfitter I’m glad to see places like Walkabout are still going strong. Make sure you support these local outdoor experts and leave the online purchases for your post apocalyptic toilet paper stash.

Walkabout is a treasure in Lexington! We appreciate the high quality brands (like Patagonia) when shopping for clothes, well made and last for years. Employees are always friendly and helpful too.

Amy was amazing!!!! We timed our visit perfectly, she was working AND there was an end of season sale 😍 two pair of Chacos, a hydro flask and two shirts later we hated to leave. Amy offered our kids stickers and they were thrilled!!! We can’t thank her enough for her kindness and help. Hope to be back in the area one day and will definitely be stopping in.

We enjoy shopping at Walkabout Outfitter. It is a great alternative to online ordering or traveling to a large box store. The staff are friendly and helpful, knowledgeable about their products and the products themselves are always of high quality.

I am an avid hiker and have lived in Rockbridge for 4 years. I buy all of my hiking gear exclusively from Walkabout. Their staff is always friendly, knowledgable and helpful; whether you need help with gear or want to know some good places to hike or camp (thanks Amy!). They carry a wide range of brands (I'm a NorthFace junky!) that are environmentally responsible and with plenty of sizes to fit my dad bod. I frequent the store often and always have a great experience. Would definitely recommend them to my friends and family!!!

I was searching for a specific gaiter online and Walkabout Outfitter came up as having it in stock. I called the store, talked to a helpful young man who got it in his hand in moments and said it would be sent out that day and took all the information over the phone. Couldn't have been easier. I got the gaitors within a day or two with a little present of a spork from Walkabout Outfitter. What a great shopping experience!
